Have your own snorkelling gear and walk to the beach. Be aware of conservation, but if you can swim and float easily you don't need a... More

Amazing BUT please only use Natural (no chemical) sunscreen. The chemicals in sunscreen are really harmful to the turtles. We did with an organised trip with TUI combined with underground cenote. Don't normally like organised trips but on this occasion was pleased we had chosen as good mix of activities & ensured we were respectful to turtles 🐢 and I... More

We thought we could just walk into the water and snorkel on our own but noooo. Upon arriving at the beach, we were immediately approached by many local 'guides' offering their services. We were worried that hiring them was not only a scam, but unnecessary. Then we talked with another guy posing as an official something or other, who stood... More

I've been twice, you are guaranteed to see turtles :) don't listen to the guys who approach you on the walk in. You don't need to go with a tour however I have read many people saying no fins. The reason is the water is not very deep and the fins cause the ocean floor to stir which can cover... More

Visiting the Mayen ruins first, and then swimming with the turtles, through Lomas travel. Very well guided, everything we needed was there (equipment) and very good explanation.

The place is amazing but the local don't let you go in! Only if you pay them. Walk to the white hotel and they will leave alone.

This group is protecting the environment and animals of the Akumal region. There is not much to see (a museum or info center is in discussion) but you can go to their offices and ask anything you would like to know.
