Last time I was in Uxmal there were still restrictions due to Covid, so there were very few tourists and the place was magical due to this quiet environment. This time I was afraid of seeing too many people, but I was completely wrong because there were also very few people and the place was very quiet. You can walk in peace and take your time to enjoy the ruins. It is a magical pace, very mystic. For me one of the best ruins and definitely a highlight.

A beautiful archeological site with lots of different types of constructions to admire, impressive details in each of them. Arrive early so you can avoid all the tour buses. Bring comfortable shoes and sun protection

Beautiful archeological site, very few tourists. As amazing as chichen itza. Kids loved our tour guide Juan, the tour cost 1000 pesos and lasted 1.5-2 hours. We took the Sur bus from Campeche, it runs 5 times a day from Sur station we took the 2 pm bus got into uxmal at 5.45. There is no town so bring snacks and alcohol as you will be eating at the hotel. Hotel resort maya uxmal was wonderful, cheap, huge balconies with a beautiful view of the jungle, a wonderful pool, a good not overpriced restaurant, and in the morning you can walk straight to archeological site through a path through the jungle. Afterwards swam and caught the same sur bus to Merida at 5.45.

If you are ardently interested in the archaeological sites near Merida, you won’t want to miss all that the Uxmal area offers. We made arrangements with Tour like a Local out of Merida. Andrej vasko was perfect. A gentleman, an excellent driver, knowledgeable to win praise from my husband, picked us up early so we could see all in one day, and a trained archaeologist.

By far the best archaeological complex in Yucatán. The reception area has several facilities like inexpensive shops with books and handicrafts, clean restrooms, and good food kiosks. The archaeological site begins with the beautiful great pyramid with it's characteristic oval shape that makes it different from other sites. The style you see here is purely Puuc. Other monuments like the nunnery square, the governor's palace with it's cute double headed jaguar throne, and the palomar are unique. When we went, the cemetery area was closed but we could observe the reconstruction of a sunken square the archaeologists are doing now. There're not so much visitors so you can enjoy the site without crowds.

We enjoyed our visit to Uxmal - it's well worth the drive from Merida. We arrived at about 9 am and the tour groups started arriving at about 10:30; definitely try to get there before the tours as it's a much nicer visit when there are fewer people around. We spent about 2 hours there in total. We did not hire a guide, as I had printed off a map and detailed information from the internet - recommend either doing this or hiring a guide as the English signage on site is quite brief. Costs at the time we visited in February 2024 were 116 mxn for parking, 95 mxn entry fee, and 465 mxn government fee. Afterwards we drove 10 minutes down the road to the town of Santa Elena and had a nice lunch at the Pickled Onion (which is also a B&B if you're looking for overnight accommodations).

My visit to the Uxmal archaeological site was spectacular. This ancient Mayan city, with its well-preserved structures and stunning architecture, truly offers a glimpse into a fascinating past. The intricate details of the Pyramid of the Magician left me in awe of the craftsmanship and ingenuity of the Mayan civilization. A significant added value of the tour was our guide. His extensive knowledge and passion for Mayan history brought the ruins to life. He provided detailed explanations of the various structures and their historical significance, which greatly enriched our experience. His enthusiasm was contagious, making the tour both educational and enjoyable... 80 years with over 50 years of experience and the dynamics of never ending youth... Fantastic! Uxmal is a must-see for anyone interested in history and ancient civilizations.

Clean ladies toilets in visitor centre at entrance. Also Ice cream! Surprising, large edifices. Different to other Mayan sites, but some design features similar. So much of the site yet to be uncovered. Site not looted /destroyed because so wrapped up with the jungle growth ,so much yet to be found Visited as part of a small group tour Larger site than one would expect so TAKE WATER.
