Soar above a breathtaking landscape, sculpted over time, decorated by nature and enjoyed by generations.Stand on top of Dunstable Downs for a view that will simply take your breath away. These Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) are designated for the quality of their chalk grasslands. As well as two Scheduled Ancient Monuments (Five Knolls and Medieval Rabbit Warrens) there are many other historical features and the site has much to offer you.The chalk grasslands of the Downs have miles of footpaths and several circular walks, a fascinating history and an abundance of plants and wildlife.Dunstable Downs is within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and the highest point in Bedfordshire. The wind-swept ridge provides ideal conditions for a variety of air sports, especially kite flying. On calmer days it's the ideal site to enjoy the view and a picnic. Please note: Chilterns Gateway Centre is owned by Central Bedfordshire Council and managed by the National Trust.

Living at the bottom of the Downs until recently I have been lucky enough to be able to walk up along the path past the burial chambers up to the café and shop regularly but I also took the path to the Whipsnade tree cathedral which is a few miles away but worth the effort. You can also pop in... More

Great experience here great views over the Chilterns and well paved paths and also a nice little cafe. In the summer it would probably be good for a picnic etc.

This is an amazing place for walks with fabulous views. Walks can be as short or long as you wish and then you can treat yourself to refreshments in the cafe!

It is always windy up on The Downs and if you are suffering from the winter blues it is the perfect spot to get away from it all. There are a couple of car parks which are free if you are a member of the National Trust. Coffee and light snacks are available at the Visitor Centre if you are... More

Easy place to visit with good parking and a nice cafe/visitor centre unfortunately it was foggy so had no view of the area. However I went here when I was a kid and its worth the visit.

My family have been many times over the years. The visitor centre is a popular focal point and sometimes too popular for its own good but the views on a clear day always impress and the walks can be easy on the paved areas or a challenge if exploring the ups and downs! Recommended.

The Downs have great walks and the scenery is amazing. There's plenty for the children to do, there are things for the kids to do while walking. Being high up it's perfect for kite flying. The resturant is very nice, selling that nice cup of tea if you need warming up

We recently joined the NT so thought we should pay a visit. Car parking is £2.50 (unless you are a member or blue badge holder). There is a really good visitor centre selling NT goodies and a very large cafe. There is lots of seating outside so you can take your own snacks and enjoy them too. We picked up... More

Just a lovely place to go and stare at beautiful views and watch the gliders and kites whilst enjoying a good coffee. The waitresses are always lovely and friendly and the cakes are lush! It cost a little north of £9 for two coffees (quite small) and two cakes.
