Not as good as London Zoo.

I was really looking forward to visiting this zoo, but I wasn’t overly impressed with it. It’s very spread out & not very well signposted to all the different areas. The views are amazing though, and I enjoyed the steam train ride (which you have to pay for) I enjoyed the new temporary Dinosaur part.

Great day out
Jul 2021 • Family
We recently visited the zoo with the kids and had a really great time. The animals seem to be well looked after and happy in their environment. The zoo is well maintained and very clean. Theres so much to see and do that you need a whole day to get round it all.....and dont forget to wear comfy shoes!!

We eat at the River Cottage restaurant which wasnt open last time we came. The food was great, we all loved the pizzas. We were really looked after by the staff and management, even though it was very busy the customer service was still fantastic. The only negative would be that the ice- cream was quite expensive.

Few tweaks needed!!
Jun 2021 • Family
We had a good day as a family of 3!!
My biggest gripe is that 4/5 hand sanitizer stations were empty. In the high traffic areas - eg coming in and out of the children’s play area where hundreds of hands are touching equipment every minute- both the sanitiser dispensers were empty
We had to walk to find a full one!! We then went back to the car to get our own bottle and handed out to others who found the situation frustrating
There perhaps could be a bit more one way movement of people??? I know the social distance rules are relaxed- but felt a bit more organisation could have been enforced!!
We will go back as my son had a good day, but we will be a little more prepared!!!

Disappointed
Jul 2021
Very disappointed with my visit to Whipsnade Zoo yesterday. The only two good things were the train ride and the adventure playground.
1. They allow cars in which are constantly driving from one parking place to another as the attractions are so far apart. As the roads go to every attraction it does not make it pleasant having to constantly keep check on your children. Very dangerous and not what I would expect in a zoo.
2. Not many animals and when you do eventually reach the area they are suppose to be in, they are nowhere to be seen. I was told by an assistant of the zoo they had to let a lot of the animals go to Yorkshire zoo. Very disappointing.
3. Everything felt rundown and I think the whole place needs to be modernised to allow a better experience for the children.
4. Because we decided to walk around the zoo it became tiresome for our grandson who is six. He got very tired and bored trekking from one type of animal to the next which where approximately 5 to 7 minute walks between them. And then not being able to see any animals was very frustrating. All in all it is not a cheap visit and was very disappointed.

Cars everywhere!!
Jul 2021
The animals at this zoo are great, but...... Because of the zoo allowing parking within the grounds, there were cars everywhere. This really spoilt the atmosphere of the place and parents were continually reminding children about the road. The maps are atrocious. The catering is poor so take your own. You will walk miles so little ones will struggle. Not the best zoo out there which is a shame as the enclosures are really big and the animals seem well cared for. Get rid of the cars and improve the catering, ZSL!

Got lost
Jul 2021
There was plenty of parking and a long queue into the zoo. The price to take your car inside was very steep.
When inside there were plenty of shady places to rest as it is very extensive.
Signage is very poor and it was hard to get an idea of distance on a phone screen.
The food was quite good.

Brilliant day out

Firstly I just want to say that I think many of the negative reviews on here are very unfair. Yes the enclosures are big and you don’t always get to see the animals up close but the animals have plenty of space in the enclosures which can only be a good thing. Think people forget that the animals arnt there to perform from 10am until 5pm so it’s quite likely that sometimes you won’t see a particular animal. The zoo was pretty quiet which was nice. Everywhere was really clean and staff we encountered were really friendly. The only disappointment was the gift shop was pretty small and didn’t have a great selection of things to buy. Anyone planning on going to whipsnade I can’t recommend paying the £25 to take a car in highly enough. The zoo is absolutely huge and would be a real struggle to walk around the whole zoo, and there is also a section with loads of deers which you can only go through by car. All in all we had a lovely day and was definitely worth the 2 hour drive to get there.

"Needs bulldozing and starting again, bring into the 21st century"

Seems to be outclassed by many other zoos. very old dilapidated buildings. The enclosures are vast and very spread out. you would walk miles to see virtually nothing at the end of it.
The train only took you around Asia only a short ride for a massive zoo. just went through fields the animals were a long way off. Ticket price was £4.50 per adult outrageous.
The day was hot, so the animals were hiding under trees or bushes. "I guess" ? but actually I didn't think the zoo has that many animals for you to see anyway. Even on a cool day.
We were looking forward to Whipsnade as it was one zoo we had never been to. It will be our last visit here, that's for sure.

Avoid, overpriced, dated and outclassed by many other zoos
Jul 2021 • Family
Has really gone downhill in recent years which is a real shame as it's a fabulous site. Terrible signage and very confusing maps, no visible staff and being surrounded by car fumes all day.
It was very difficult to understand where the animals were and when you find them there is very minimal signage. Lots of areas are currently derelict and the whole place is feeling very tired and run down.
The volume of traffic on site makes for a really stressful day as you can't let children wander freely as your constantly avoiding traffic. At times it felt like we were pedestrians at a Safari park
