Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful and peaceful place for prayer and reflection.
High praise for Revd Johnny Rapson who supported my family through the recent death and funeral of our beloved Mother. 🖤

We went to see The Revd Jonny Rapson installed as the new rector. It is the most beautiful old church dating back to the early 1100’s. The congregation were wonderfully friendly, church bells were ringing before the service, very quintessentially English. Do drop by if your are passing.

Lovely tranquil church with a well kept yard just off the high street in Old Amersham. We sat on a bench and enjoyed a quiet picnic here before walking around and visiting this historical and impressively large church. Apparently this is the resting place of Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be hanged in England. (who could forget 'Dance With A Stranger' starring the hugely talented Miranda Richardson?). Great place to visit and especially so on a sunny afternoon.

Historic and great design. The flint facing are local and the inside is worth a long look. The graveyard has some interesting places

This is a nice church located in the centre of Old Amersham, a lovely village with still a market hall and several staging coach inns. In the church there are some grand tombs, albeit a bit difficult to see. There is a nice font. However, walk over the Chalfon St Giles to see the lovely frescoes there.

St Mary's Church takes pride of place in the centre of Amersham Old Town. Beautiful church and well maintained surroundings. The gravestones are interesting and provide a historical insight into the local area.

A traditional old church, with some interesting inscriptions and carvings. Up high in the chancel a carved hand holds an axe brought back from the Crusades (the "Drake Chopper") and in the old vestry you can see the Drake family (local landowners and MPs for generations) have built a mausoleum full of fancy marble, and paid for a new vestry so the vicar still had somewhere to keep his surplices. One of the stories in the Drake Chapel is of a Drake who protested against the arrival of the railway in Amersham and was succesful in having it diverted to what became Amersham-on-the-Hill instead of ruining the old town's high street. (Where's a Drake when you have HS2 bearing down on you?)

The church is open daily from around 9am and there is information to pick up near the door to guide you round some of the interesting parts, but the Drake Chapel (the old vestry) is locked, so you'll need to come to a service or ask Tim the vicar to let you have a look. If you recognise Tim, it is because he has been an extra in Midsommer Murders on quite a few episodes, and even married Cully Barnaby (to someone!).

St Mary’s is a lovely church. Some of the best stained glass windows I’ve seen. Some unusual graves. Unfortunately we didn’t see the one belonging to Ruth Ellis.
