The scale, grandeur and beauty of Stowe has inspired writers, philosophers, artists, politicians and members of the public from the 18th century to the present day. Since the National Trust acquired the gardens in the late 1980s, an ambitious programme of restoration has ensured that over 40 temples and monuments remain, gracing an inspiring backdrop of lakes and valleys with an endless variety of walks and trails, a delightful visit, any time of year.

We live locally so visit Stow on a regular basis. Landscape gardens, designed by Capability Brown. The NT staff are always really friendly, the place is always spotlessly clean. We really enjoy going. The tea room is always very busy but for a tea and a coffee with plenty of change out of a fiver I'm not surprised. Keep up... More

This is by far my favourite place to visit and the best of all the national trust properties I have visited. The 250 acre grounds are simply stunning in all seasons and very well maintained. There is plenty to see on your walk around, from temples, statues, lakes, Chinese house and even a grotto! There's a variety of walks you... More

We spent a cold frosty Sunday exploring the gardens. We walked 9 miles taking it all in and there is plenty to see. There are several temples were you can take shelter and have a quick snack / coffee. I would recommend bringing snacks / drinks with you as there is nothing in the gardens apart from within the house... More

Spent the day walking in the beautiful grounds of Stowe House! So many different areas to look at and explore, could easily have spent many more hours exploring the ground. The house itself is a stunning example of Capability Brown and what was achievable in those times! All the points of interest are well presented and have plenty of supporting... More

We went for a walk in Stowe for the first time on Sunday morning. It was frosty and bitter but we enjoyed it. Saw snowdrops (not as much as we would've liked to) and did a good 1.5 hour walk around the ground. I bet it must be much prettier in spring and summer. I'd say the cold weather put... More

Very impressive National Trust Property with lots of interesting features - lakes, temples and statues - to give direction to a walk through the parkland.

Visited Stowe for the first time on New Year's Day with family. Unfortunately we were not blessed with great weather, it was freezing cold and raining heavily. Weather was not conducive to enjoyment, however, everyone had a great time. Staff were friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. I will definitely be back!

The actual main building was not open although the grounds were. The National Trust has been restoring the 250 acres of grounds since 1989 and the Grade 1 listed property looks stunning from several vantage points. A walk will take over an hour and at points you will see lakes, temples, parkland and, if you are lucky, wildlife. There are... More

We visit here many times a year and are never disappointed. The walks around the grounds are simply delightful. Just go - you will be glad you did. Pick a nice day in spring for your first visit.
