We had hired an Andersen Boat 2 1/2 years ago for 2 weeks, and wanted to do a narrowboat holiday again for 3 weeks. We considered other parts of England, but we really are so impressed with Andersen and their boat Fjord Princess so much we just had to repeat it with them. This part of the canal system is fantastic as well, and we were able to do a different loop as well as the awesome aqueducts of the Llangollen Canal. Andersen Boats continues to win us over. The boat and their customer service seem unbeatable. We like to hire in the slow season (Fall last time, Spring this time), for extended runs, and their pricing for our needs is also superior to the others we reviewed. Jenny and Terry are exceptional staffers who met our every need. Middlewich is also a brilliant base to experience this part of the canal system. First time hire customers, or otherwise, Andersen would be an excellent choice.

The introduction and explanation of the boat’s workings/facilities was exactly what was required. In no time at all we were on our way and tackling the first of many locks. The boat (the Fjord Monarch) was perfect for us (a couple) with a decent-sized diner, living area, kitchen and storage. We had no issues at all and spent a perfect week on the canals. Recommended!

The introduction to the boat, Fjord Monarch, was fully informative and the standard of presentaion of the boat was immaculate. The staff, in particular Billy the engineer, were very helpful on the phone when we had issues to report. The holiday itself was an absolute pleasure and will live long in our memory. The facilities on the boat were superb and heating/hot water system worked brilliantly. We will be booking another holiday with Andersens and fully recommend it to anyone

We spent two weeks on the Fiord Contessa. Good things were it was well equipped, excellent heating and well made. So very poorly designed, however. Getting into the shower required some acrobatics - the side was up to my hip and I was expected to climb over it to shower - as an older person with a knee replacement - I actually considered staying smelly for the two weeks we were on the boat. Chap I spoke to on return said “hire boats flex so we can’t put normal showers in” - excuse me but I’ve done a dozen hires and never suffered like this. Nowhere to put a toothbrush - a cup on the wall would have been brilliant. Nowhere to put a cup of tea or a book in the fixed berth. Spent two weeks standing up to steer the boat as there was nowhere to rest my bottom even for a moment. Ate on our knees for two weeks as the table was impossible to use. In thirty years of hiring boats this was the second worst one ever!

Fabulous relaxing break. The boat was very well equipped especially the galley which had a teapot and cafetiere, something not usually found in self catering establishments. The boat was well made and really clean and the staff super helpful. There was a problem with the battery part way into our break. The 24/7 service worked really well. The engineer found us and repaired the fault all before 7.30am so our holiday wasn't spoilt. I would really recommend this family run firm.
