Fascinating place, loads of hands on activities for kids which my 7 year old loved. Friendly staff. Reasonably priced too.
The village of Boot is lovely and a very short, flat walk from Dalegarth station.

We called in today after a trip on the La'al Ratty. What a gorgeous little place. Dogs are allowed! Which is a massive bonus, so often we miss historical places as our dog can't come in. The gentleman who was there was very informative and accommodating. There were hands on exhibits for the kids and the grounds were stunning, even in February. In summer you could sit for hours in those gardens. We will definitely be back later in the year. Cheap entry fee, definitely worth a visit.

We travelled on the Ravenglass steam train to delegarth and walked from the station to this amazing piece of history. After a nice leisurely 10 minute walk on a quite road we reached the watermill it's a simply stunning area,. We paid the gentleman and had a wonderful chat, he was very knowledgeable and it was an absolute pleasure to chat to him. We then stepped back in time wondering around the mill, Lots of well presented information teaches you about the machinery and the processes and tools that were used.
And I came away having learned a lot, Beautiful buildings, outdoor areas and stunning surroundings. Absolutely well worth a visit.

The mill is really worth visiting. Seeing the machinery at work and learning about it's history was fascinating but the best thing was watching my two small grandchildren learning how the power of water can be harnessed. They loved understanding how the various wheels and cogs interacted to do the work of grinding the grain and particularly enjoyed milling grain themselves with a quern and playing with the model millraces and sluices in the grounds. A fabulous visit.
