Situated on the Southern tip of Lake Windermere. Lakes Aquarium has a wide range of native marine and freshwater fish including Pike, Arctic Char, Seahorses and more. It is also home to Asian shortclawed otters, pygmy marmoset monkeys, Clown fish and amazing leaf cutter ants. Cafes and giftshops are available onsite and we can be reached by Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway or Windermere Lake Cruise as well as by car. Please note the car park is not owned by the aquarium and is pay and display. We are sorry but we cannot allow dogs inside the aquarium building.

A good morning out

Enjoyed the time we spent here, plenty to keep smaller children entertained - adults/older children not as much but not boring by any means.

this place is small and cheerful. Some interesting things to see in there. but not as big as i thought. Got the boat over and managed to do the aquarium in about 25 minutes leaving us over an hour wait for the boat back to bowness.

We were staying at the Lakeside Hotel (just across the car park) and had an hour to spare so decided to pop in and have a look at the Lakes Aquarium. We didn’t need the spare hour – 20 minutes would have been sufficient. A mid-week day in February, at the end of their opening hours, we were the only... More

On a rainy day thought this would be a good idea to visit, but turned out the best time is at feeding as the otters go to sleep after being fed so didn't see them, some places were empty, and the cage for the very small monkey was just shocking to see this tiny animal in a very small glass... Thank you for your review we are sorry that you were disappointed with your visit. The otters are fed 3 times a day and during these times they are guaranteed to be on display for the public, they also have a heat lamp out on display in the enclosure which they spend much of their time under, however we do... I first visited here 6 yrs ago and enjoyed it. However time has moved on and it's just starting to look a bit dated and a bit dirty.Plus points-admission price is good for what you get.Staff are knowledgable and the opportunity to handle snakes was available. My 6yr old daughter loved this (wife didn't !).Otters! Who doesn't love an otter?... More

Thank you for your review, we are pleased that your family enjoyed participating in one of our animal handling sessions, which takes place twice daily and also liked meeting our otters. During the winter season we do undertake many maintenance jobs and these are ongoing. The car parking is owned by Windermere Lake Cruises and unfortunately we have no control... More

Called in on a rainy Friday afternoon to kill a bit of time and see some otters. Aquarium is a little smaller than expected but quite cheap and a great way to kill an hour. They have a great little otter section and loads of different varieties sea life alongside ducks and reptiles. It was pretty cool to see all... More

You pay just under £7 entry fee and there is a small range of animals. There's a rock pool type area where a member of staff speaks to you about the animals and lets you touch some. However it only took 20 minutes to see everything, including loitering at each section but it definitely was a nice end to a... More
