- Andrew LLeigh, United Kingdom3,589 contributionsTop beersGreat to pop in here during a visit to the lakes. Love the bar area - with a smattering of hounds this time. Walkers taking a well earned break. Great outdoor seating area to enjoy the sun as well. Loved the beers - Mosaic is more complex. Hawks head gold is a good un as well. Great venue.Visited May 2023Travelled soloWritten 27 May 2023
- Hari SeldonCumbria, United Kingdom172 contributionsA great beer hallBeen here many times and always enjoy the beers. It is now doing some food but as it’s a beer hall don’t expect restaurant menus. We tried the toasties and they were fabulous. Dog friendly, people friendly and always has a great selection of beers.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 September 2023
- Kate2 contributionsGreat when open!Lovely ambience and lots of interesting delicious beers to choose from. Only negative was the website says it closes at 8. We arrived at 7 and were told that they had stopped serving. Having checked the website which said an 8 o'clock closure, we were disappointed and had travelled for no reason! We emailed to enquire and were told very nicely that as of yesterday they now close at 7. The website had not been updated. We asked for a free drink to compensate for our wasted journey but were refused as they don't give free drinks. Not brilliant customer service but the beer is wonderful.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 October 2023
- Patricia H81 contributionsHawkshead Brewery - best beer in the LakesLove this place, best beer in the Lakes... but don't tell anyone. The staff are friendly, attentive, know who is next in line for service and don't serve short pints. The price of a pint is still very reasonable. We will be back!Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 October 2023
- SiethepieBradford, United Kingdom9 contributionsIf you love real ale this is a must….I’ve been to quite a few brewery tap rooms and most of them are top draw. This one is no exception. Based at Staveley, 5 min walk from the bus stop or 10 min from train station I would insist anyone who loves real ale and is in the lakes area must visit here. A modern feel but still comfortable 10 cask ales of mostly their own brews and many more keg on offer plus non drinkers and spirit drinkers are very well catered for.. staff are friendly and a warm welcome is assured, the limited food menu is good pub grub and reasonably priced. There is a bottle and merch shop which also sell their wares and clothing. On the whole an excellent place to visit, downstairs is dog friendly too!Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 November 2023

We checked the website before going, and it said it was open until 8. We arrived at 7 and were told they stopped serving then. We then emailed for an explanation, and we got a prompt response telling us that closing time is now 7 but the website hasn't been updated.
Having travelled especially we were disappointed and a bit irritated. The rules had only changed that day! I emailed again, explaining the inconvenience, and asked for a complimentary drink as good will gesture. This was politely refused.
We did go back when it was open. There's an interesting range of delicious beers to choose from and we really enjoyed the beers and the ambience.
It's sad that we didn't feel valued. A nice gesture for our previous wasted journey would have made all the difference.

Beer was great, but very disappointed that no food was available when we visited, even though their website clearly says food available during opening hours.

We were going to pop in for a few drinks but due to an obnoxious (red mini driving) employee we encountered in the car park, we decided to give it a miss. Whilst not the brewery’s fault directly, the employee (wearing a Hawkshead Brewery t-shirt) represents your company and should be mindful of her actions. Whilst we were indicating to pull into a car parking space the aforementioned employee pulled up behind us, basically not giving us enough room to manoeuvre into the space. She remained in her car behind us, watching us struggle. Her passenger (also an employee) got out and walked to the brewery. She knowingly stayed in position and after several attempts, we were unable to turn into the space. We had to drive away, at which point she pulled into the space and parked up. We thanked her for being considerate and she walked off saying “I work here, I can’t risk getting a ticket”. Clearly she thought it would be ok for us to get a ticket though. It might be useful to remind employees, they wouldn’t have a job, if customers are not able to park and access the brewery.

Do you have to book ahead to go on the tour? Or can you just turn up on the day?
Jess A

I booked ahead but the tourgiude said Friday's are usually quiet so if you wanted to go on a Friday you would probably be ok not to book. Booking is very easy though!
