We hired bikes as a family group with ages ranging from 4 to 69 and John ensured that everyone, old and young (and those in between!) had bikes they were happy with. The bikes were an incredible quality. Our children had mountain bikes whilst the adults had electric bikes with a woohoo (kids trailer with pedals) for the little one which he loved. John gave thorough instructions on how to use the electric bikes and provided us with a very detailed map to guide us in our adventure. The weather was wet but spirits were high and we had a super day. We will defiantly be booking again next year.

Your faces on your return to our bike rental base in Lowick said it all! Smiling ,dripping, splattered smiles from everyone old and young. When you come prepared with full waterproofs even the most inclement day can be a fun family day out as you circumnavigate Coniston Water. The E-bikes ensure everyone has a a great day out. Thanks for your review.

Good communication from John as we booked quite last minute! Good tips on routes and the bikes were great fun. Would definitely recommend the E Bikes if you wanting to explore the lakes without the sore legs! Grizedale Forrest was accessed on a lovely route by coniston lake.

Getting to and from Grizedale Forest is often described by my clients as the highlight of their day. Once in the forest on the fire road muddy trails often there are only the planted trees surrounding the tracks. But due to recent harvesting of the coniferous trees large areas now look like a bomb site. The e-bikes with their Bosch motor and battery usually have more than enough power to enable full exploration of this beautiful area of the Lake District National Park. Thanks for your review.

Second time of hiring a eMTB from John at Lake District Bikes. 2 day hire this time.
John is a good bloke, straight talking and helpful.
Bikes are of a high standard and well maintained. I had a bit of an issue with the bike on day one (an electrical issue, which can just happen) John replaced with another bike with no problems. The second bike was absolutely ace. I will hire again from John with confidence. I would have gone with 5 stars, but I was unlucky with first bike and had to leave my group of friends to return bike.

Yes anything electric is never 100% all the time! Even with the most stringent pre hire checks and servicing something may come loose or fail while out riding the rough stuff. The E-bikes do however have a massive cassette to enable rides to be completed or to limp back to base for a replacement bike. Breakdowns are, however, very very unusual, and I have sufficient spare E-bikes ready to replace any rare on hire issues. Thank you for your understanding and appreciation of the refund I returned, and your appreciation of the Mondraker Chaser full suspension E-Bike which replaced the Trek Rail e-bike. It has been very heartening the number of my repeat customers who have returned this year, of which you are one. I look forward to welcoming you back in 2024. Postscript.. theTrek Rail has been delivered to the local Bosch specialist who has plugged into the computer for Bosch diagnostics and diagnosed a failure in the Trek sensor cable which is being replaced..... an on ride cable failure.

We were a novice bunch of mountain bikers but John provided great info and introduction how to use the bikes that allowed us to have a fantastic trip. Cycling from the bike hire pick up to Grizedale was just brilliant and then a few trails around the forest for a busy day and nearly 50km done! All of our 5 bikes were top-notch and £20 per bike cheaper than hiring at Grizedale. Thoroughly recommend and will definitely be using again. We used the full suspension E bikes, brilliant.

The full suspension E bikes are truly amazing fort a fun days riding from our rental base in Lowick. Once fully explained as to how to get the best out of these bikes, within minutes new riders are fully conversant with safely riding e-bikes which are often new to them. There is such variety of terrain riding to Grizedale Forest, and everyone is in agreement that getting to and returning from is much better than riding within Grizedale Forest. The main views include a panorama over Morecambe Bay , the central Lake District mountains and Coniston Water. On a clear day even the Isle Of Man can be seen in the far distance. The circular route I usually recommend ensures not only terrific views, but a range of tracks and trails to suit all abilities of riders of all ages, regardless of their previous experience of riding e-bikes. Thank you for pointing out that the bike hire prices are £ 20 cheaper than other hire centres. You review's comments is greatly appreciated. I look forward to your return in 2024

We rented bikes from John at Lake District Bikes and he was amazing. Best place for bike rental in Lake District. He will give thorough instruction on riding an e-bike and offer personally drafted maps with all types of paths. His place is amazing and have him show you his gardens.

Thanks Annie and Van from the USA. My local knowledge and maps clearly helped your enjoyment of the 3 days cycling on the hybrid E-Bikes even though the early autumnal weather was a bit wet at times. The front garden is a gem isolated from the bike hire which operates from the rear of Lowick House. I encourage foreign visitors to view the garden as it is so typically English with sweeping formal lawns, ancient yew topiary and a wild garden full of mature trees. Lowick House is now a holiday home available for rental. Im delighted you had such a great time cycling around this quieter area of the Lake District National Park.

Had a great day in and around Grizedale, having hired an eBike from John at Lake District Bikes. The bike was brilliant, and (as an eBike novice) John explained all the features clearly and patiently, and with some great tips. His route suggestion were really helpful too.

Grizedale Forest is very close to our bike rental base in Lowick. Almost everyone agrees that the route to and from the forest are the highlights of the ride. The return route over Parker Moor offers fantastic views as you ride above Coniston Water, while the green road track towards Ikenthwaite displays panoramic views over Morecambe Bay. These tracks and trails have their challenging sections so there is excellent variety of terrain. Grizedale Forest is a commercial forest where currently the pine trees planted decades ago are reaching maturity and being harvested. Therefore large swathes of the forest resemble bomb sites, while others remain densely packed pines only penetrable by single track trails. Yet the "Fire roads ", large tracks used by wagons to cart out the felled forest offer wide hard packed gravel routes . But there is so much more to access the quiet fells and mountain trails in south Cumbria. Yes there are lots of hills ,thats why the off road e-bikes open up many aspects of this area only previously accessible by the fittest of cyclists.

Great bikes for rentals. The guided tour is brilliant, great way to see the area, learn about the history, and do some great trails with 360 views of the Lake District and surrounds. Highly recommend it!

Yes we had a great mornings ride with panoramic views of Morecambe Bay, the Lakeland fells and onwards towards Yorkshire. This very varied ride on tracks , trails and country lanes covers all types of terrain and is ideal for explaining the ancient and modern industries of this area. I look forward to your return in 2023.

We had two excellent bikes for about two weeks. We think that John is looking very professionally after his bikes.
He added, on our request, some lights for cycling with bad weather or during the evening. John was always there when we needed something.
He also knows the best biking routes to get around the Ulverston area and would suggest some lovely tours.
We do recommend him strongly.

Thanks for your review which is very kind. I had no idea that you would be cycling so late at night as lights are not a standard hire unit. But we soon got the issue resolved and your lights shone brightly for the rest of your nightime adventures. Being from Switzerland , where you informed me it is compulsory to have lights on bikes at all times it must have been strange not to expect the same in England. As a consequence Im getting a new package of long term bike rental for people attending festivals in Ulverston especially the spring and summer festivals held at the Manjushi Kadampa Meditation centre Nr Ulverston.. I look forward to your return next year

The website is very easy to use, so I selected a full suspension Emtb with an impressively big battery. £80 is a very fair price for a full day on this kind of bike.

Confirmation of my booking was instantly received, as was information on where to pick up the bike. I asked for an early collection and this was no problem.

When I arrived the bike was outside and gleaming in the morning sunshine. And the bike didn't disappoint: it was in great condition and ready to ride. The mondraker I borrowed had great spec and was well maintained and handled everything a Lakeland classic -- 53km off road route around the hills above Coniston and Windermere, including a few descents in Grizedale Forest -- could throw at it. A very enjoyable day out and the bike still had about 30% battery left.

At the end the bike was verrrry dirty and the best thing was you return it to Lowick Green, have a chat with John and you go home without a dirty bike to pack away or clean! Marvellous.

This was my second time hiring an Emtb from Lake District Bikes and I'm looking forward to going back for a third time this winter when I return to the UK for another holiday.

Thanks for returning to hire the new 2023 Mondraker Chaser electric bike with the large capacity 750 Wh Bosch battery. This is indeed an awesome full suspension E-Bike which after your full days off road riding needed a really good clean and service as you had worn out the brake pads. Its always very rewarding to me when clients return having had such a great day to further explore all the many off road routes that radiate from our hire base in Lowick. Mountain bike adventures in and out of Grizedale Forest, exploring new routes and new views with new challenges. Thanks for this review iIlook forward to your return for yet another epic days riding

Jon was so helpful, he found an electric bike to help my pregnant wife up hills and taught her how to use it. He also fixed my bike for me when i managed to blow my tyre a mile into our journey! He was very generous with his talents and bike supplies. The bike we borrowed was excellent and we would recommend this place to anyone. Jon is very knowledgable about local routes. Thank you!

Always great to welcome back returning customers to my bike rentals. Unfortunately this year you had your own bike which blew a tyre and tube which I was able to help you fix. Your wife also had a great day on a hybrid E-Bike which easily accommodated her "Bump". I look forward to your return next year with your new family as you have already spied the baby seat. Thanks for your review
