About
Now open in our new location. We have a vastly improved exhibition area for you to learn about the life and work of Stan Laurel, with many information boards, personal items and pictures to see. Our cinema area can accommodate around 30 people, showing films and documentaries all day. This is the first phase of our expansion plans with new things being added all the time. The Laurel and Hardy Museum in Ulverston began as the private collection of Bill Cubin, a lifelong fan. Now being run by his grandson, we hope to entertain and inform you about the worlds' best loved double act. New display recently opened. The museum began life as private collection, a wonderful jumble of memorabilia. Our new display attempts to recreate that feeling. A small room packed to the gills with pictures, statues, mugs, records, anything and everything to do with The Boys.

- Darren D8 contributionsBrilliant tributeBrilliant well worth your money. Loads of memrobia lots to see great story about Laurel and hardy. The guy who runs the museum very helpful and loves Laurel and Hardy. He also sent us to Laurels house brilliant memorable day. Loved it. Well worth a visit.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 February 2024
- BRR21 contributionsAnother fine mess.Good price for ticket. If you can't laugh at this museum then forget it. Showing old films one after another, very funny, laughter keeps the stress away. Really surprised, this sort of thing hasn't been given any lottery funding to excel an excellent museum of yesterdays greats.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 June 2024
- Esther D2 contributionsGreat placeGreat place, but as soon as the owner realised I wasn't in a proper tent, his whole demeanor changed. I had made the 3-hour train journey to visit the museum and it would have been nice to have been treated with more kindness, despite living 40 miles from my local tent. Finances may not allow me to come for Stan's birthday next year, so this was almost certainly once in a lifetime.Visited June 2024Travelled soloWritten 23 June 2024
- Nellybrown0Martinborough, New Zealand17 contributionsCould be so much betterWas looking forward to visiting this little museum but was disappointed. It could be so much better, feels disorganised. Lots of interesting information and movies are continuously shown with seating available. Needs a good clean and tidy up, possibly lack of funding - could be a huge attraction just needs a little bit of love and money.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 July 2024
- Jonathan R17 contributionsGreat museum...Really interesting museum, quite small yet packed with old costumes, memorabilia and information in an easy to digest format. There's also a cinema area showing a constant rotation of movies starring Stan and Ollie. A couple of hours well spent.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 8 July 2024
- Mark FBracknell, United Kingdom236 contributionsUnique, Nostalgic, and Something Out of the OrdinaryAs a family who are fans of Laurel and Hardy, and classic comedy this was a must for us to visit. Not the easiest building to find, but find we did, and I'm glad we made the trip to Ulverston. There is so much memorabilia on show and the cinema inside is constantly playing old Laurel and Hardy classics. I could have sat there all day watching the genius of L&H. The enthusiasm of the gentleman who runs it is wonderful to see, he's a real fan. He told us that the museum was started by his Grandfather, and he now continues with that love and passion. Alas comedy like this is disappearing, and so will unique places like this disappear also, in this age of digital. Investment is needed to maintain this wonderful place, and money is needed to give it a revamp to really display all the wonderful items collected over the years. If you've got a spare hour to kill, and want something nostalgic, and that little bit different from the usual tourist sites, then this is a must.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 12 August 2024
- _bengraysmedTunisia31 contributionsA gem of a museumThis is a gem of a museum packed full of info displays, posters and memorabilia on all sorts of aspects of Laurel and Hardy’s lives and careers. This includes some actual props and costumes from their films. There’s a small informal movie theatre where you can watch non-stop one and two reelers, a small library and a gift shop. The chap running the museum was very helpful, gave us some interesting info about the inaccuracies in the recent Stan and Ollie film, and pointed us in the direction of the Stan and Ollie statue (just round the corners) and the house where Stan was born (a private house a few streets away). There’s been some whinging, particularly on social media, about the museum and its presentation and organisation, and there is certainly more that the folks running it could do with it. But, it’s important to remember that these folk are doing their best and keeping the story of Laurel and Hardy going for future generations, and so it’s important to support initiatives like this if you are a fan. The ticket price (7.50 quid for an adult, with lower prices for kids, OAPs, families, etc) is very reasonable compared to some of the prices the likes of English Heritage charge (i.e. 17.20 GBP to visit a bunch of empty rooms in Carlisle Castle!), and legions of Laurel and Hardy fans (including me) will all complain if it closes. These used to be a Laurel and Hardy museum in Blackpool in the 1990s that closed due to lack of visitors/not being viable.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 25 August 2024

- Ben1 contributionA great time ina Laurel and Hardy storage unitAs I grew up with laurel and Hardy and my dad is a member of the sun's of the desert wanted to go take my frend I had been as a kid to the small house befire now here its appropriately in a old cinema that alone is lovely to see (and i do wish i had time to go.see a film.) The museum is very appropriate for setting of the lads, the staff member was informative and nice helpful and £7 was a good price. Then you turn round and first thing I saw was a area with some game console and limp red dusty curtain draped around it people talking playing games.ocasional table some chairs stacked up OK walk down and the exhibition is vast but not in any order or even lay out ,its just like someone dumped a ton of laurel Hardy memorabilia in a huge room ,and it's in dire need of a clean and dust to and there's yellow hazard tape on the floor for some reason ? There's tons of pictures some brilliant information boards but again layout the cinema is perfectly placed on a stage very apt and there films are on loop but the screen is at the back of the stage there we watched laughed and introduced my frend to the boys who only remember the cartoon I then found a sloped floor stuffed with memrobilia and takes time to see it as tons of it everywhere ,every wall ,again no layout, all dusty and trying the cardboard cut outs was fun we found a lovely cabinet full of fascinating minatures hidden on a back wall ,found a stack more chairs not stans, there's bits of stans grandparents furniture propping up against a wall just leaning there blink and miss it, Loved seeing the costumes to Overall having come all this way I wanted it to be special keeping the lads memory alive, as a collecter I know the benefit of good cabinets IKEA does a great professional range have staff dust clean and I'd rotate the goods there's honestly that much its to much ,the huge pile of videos home media everything ever relased there one big dusty pile just thin it out present it and occasional change the display and the very informative staff should do walking tours telling you there history I new it my frend never seen them and other than that I loved it such great stuff to see but felt like was walking round a storage unit There's no shop to speak of sadly and the merchandise there was is very expensiveVisited September 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 25 September 2024

Matthew, was very friendly and welcoming. It was lovely to hear people laughing before they had even sat down to watch the films. A short walk from town centre car parks.
The museum is somewhere any Laurel & Hardy fan should visit.
Plenty of information on their lives and upbringing, especially Stan as he was born in the town.
They even have furniture from his old house, clothes they wore in films and plenty of photographs etc.
To me the highlight was the cinema, showing films on a continuous loop. As the entrance price was £7.50 and you could watch films all day, this is really good value for money.
There is a small gift section but quite dear.

If you staying in the area, passing through or just a massive Laurel and Hardy fan this museum set up in a an old cinema and is a must place to spend an hour or so.Interesting photos large collection of memorabilia and of course the short films that ran all through the day. Matt the young chap in charge was very helpful, knowledgeable and informative and stated he helped put this museum together with his family.
You can sit or stay for a long as you wish watching their films and listening to others laughing out loud even young children who knew nothing of the pair.
The charges are only £6 entry for adults (£5 for seniors) and is certainly worth a visit
The statue of Laurel and Hardy is about 100 yards around the corner where you can if you wish have your photos taken

A wealth of information on display so very informative museum with a range of displays, but content is let down by poor and outdated execution of the displays and surroundings. Exhibition space desperately needs some work.
Cinema building covered in scaffolding and inside is very tired looking with a musty damp odour.
Furniture disorganised, especially in bar and film viewing area with chairs and boxes stacked up randomly. "gift shop" sparse with many bare shelves and littered with post.
Has GREAT potential (I did learn a lot), but whilst I understand funds are likely very tight, even a good tidy up/reorganisation would help a great deal and help to justify the entry fee.

Let’s be honest, the ‘excellent’or ‘good’ reviews of this museum are, I would suggest, more to do with our love of Laurel and Hardy, rather than the actual Laurel and Hardy museum itself. I dare say the guy who runs the museum is a nice guy and very knowledgeable, but I too love Laurel and Hardy and was really looking forward to visiting, but let’s be absolutely honest, this is a large collection of memorabilia housed in a dull, tired, uninspiring and tatty old cinema. Yes, you can sit and watch a selection of Laurel and Hardy movies in a section of the room too but the overall presentation of the ‘collection’ was just incredibly dated, amateur and lacklustre. The ‘souvenirs’ were very overpriced and looked rather homemade. Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment.

I am a life long Laurel & Hardy fan, I have wanted to visit this museum for many years now, this month November 2023 we booked a two night break nearby and decided to.come to ulverston to visit the museum.
What a dissapointment, the whole place is a mess, it's run down no atmosphere, boxes and wires all over the place, the collection of items were dusty and not presented, the place was cold and to be honest we thought we had come to the wrong place, we spoke to a local in ulverston and he says the founder of the museum passed away and it is now run by his grandson, well he certainly is no laurel and hardy fan, and seems to be on a crash course to run it into the ground. Such a shame as the memory of the finest comedy duo to ever exist is being taken from generations to come.
I understand it may be an expensive cost running this museum, or junk room, but it doesn't cost anything to be tidy.
I will remember Laurel and Hardy for who they were, sadly not a visit to this museum.

My husband and I visited the Laurel and Hardy museum for my Birthday as I've been a lifelong fan of the comedy duo! The small entrance fee of £6.00 was exceptionally good value for money. Although the museum wasn't large, there was a minefield of information, photographs and memorabilia. The chap who was working there (not sure if he is the owner) was very helpful and knowledgeable. There were seats available so you could sit and watch a Laurel and Hardy film (the films were running back to back). There was a bar, with hot and cold drinks and some snacks. Well worth a visit!

I grew up a massive Laurel & Hardy fan, my grandparents got me into them and I have been in love since. This was my first time visiting the museum, my lovely girlfriend tagged along and she enjoyed the 3 short films we watched on the old fashioned, cute and small cinema inside. The information walls, photos and memorabilia were very cool! Bowler hat room could do with some organisation but I completely understand that without the staffing and funding available it must be hard to upkeep. Would definitely come again! Showed the museum worker my laurel and hardy tattoo on my arm which they were happy to take a look at! :D

An interesting little museum. I enjoyed reading about Stan’s early life. I would have liked a little more information about their lives. There are Laurel and Hardy films being showed continually which was great, I watched a 20 minute film (Tit for tat), very enjoyable 😊. The rest of the museum is a collection of Stan and Ollie memorabilia, all a bit chaotic.
Worth a visit and I didn’t mind paying the £7 entrance fee.

We made a trip to Ulverston for the sole purpose of visiting the museum and it did not disappoint. From very humble beginnings the only official museum of Laurel and Hardy is a place to visit and remember. This place was founded on the love of the comedy and not for profit. We spent a good while chatting with the current owner, grandson of the original owner Bill, and it was both fascinating and very heartfelt. There is so much to see and there is so much to learn, the biggest thing we can away with, apart from half the gift shop, was the realisation that whenever you talk about memories of Laurel and Hardy it always involves family. It is truly a wonderful place to visit, don’t expect a flash modern museum but more a home for beloved treasures.
We visited the original room’ several years ago and now it it has blossomed into the what it is today. Visit if you can because you won’t be disappointed, they keep the place going and if ever it closed down it would be a tragedy.
What a truly wonderful place.

I visited the Laurel & Hardy Museum in Ulverston on Christmas Eve with a party of 10 and very kindly Matty Cooper opened up especially for us. The weather was shocking very heavy rain and were soaked when we arrived. We all had warm drinks and some snacks and started to dry out. You can see that Matty is a huge fan and you can ask him lots of questions. You go around the small museum and there are boards telling you the history of the comedy duo and some exhibitions. The best though is the small cinema which I strongly advise, each film lasting 30 minutes and you and we watched 2. There is also a small shop and a small cafeteria and bar which sells alcohol. The museum does need some TLC but well done Matty for being a true fan and sharing your love of Laurel and Hardy. I would also recommend the L&H Statue in Ulverston which is only a five minute walk away.

Would this be a complete day out or would I have to book something else in the area as well to fill up the day?

An hour should be enough for the museum .... but the museum also has a bar/cafeteria and shows Laurel and Hardy films on a loop. So in theory, you could spend and entire day watching the films.
