This was a very well presented and interesting exhibition on the history of making rum in the Caribbean and importing it to Whitehaven with quite a lot about the slave trade as well. It was very interestingly presented and would appeal to all ages!

An interesting place to spend an hour or two when the weather isn't great. It's on the site formerly occupied by Jefferson's, who were very active in the rum trade. The displays are interesting but some could be better lit. Displays relating to the same subject (e.g. distilling rum, the slave trade, rum/drink in the Navy, Prohibition in the US)... More

We visited on 19th August. It was actually bad weather that led us to this museum as we were seeking indoor activities due to poor weather (lots of rain). We were so pleased we discovered The Rum Story. Staff were so lovely and welcoming. The museum is very interesting and we thoroughly enjoyed discovering all the facts! We also enjoyed... More

First visit to Whitehaven, Didn't know much about the history of this location at all. As we enjoy a tipple of rum, we just had to visit The RUM STORY. We certainly learned a lot about the history of Whitehaven and How busy this harbour and port were in its time. At the end of our viewing we were offered... More

I love walking around the Rum Story with my little girl, discovering the history of Rum is amazing for us both. The Rum Story Cafe is one of the best in whitehaven, beautiful food, value for money, the most friendly and welcoming staff who go out of their way to help you . The run story shop is where I... This is an interesting exhibition telling the story of the rum trade out of Whitehaven and its links with the slave trade. Our party with ages ranging from 4 to 60+ all found something to enjoy in the exhibition (including the sample of rum at the end!) It took between 40 minutes and an hour for our party to get... Interesting exhibition about the history of Rum and connection with slavery. Very atmospheric. Small gift shop selling local produce and a café. The food is nice but the tables could be wiped down better. Entertaining for children if you hit the café on the hour or half hour because of the clock. You may even sense a ghost if you're... More

Really impressed with our visit today. Very reasonable entrance fee for 12 of us. Worked out at an average of around £4 per head, using concessions and combined tickets. Very friendly staff. Well laid out and informative, with good access and lots of chairs about for a sit down. A lovely selection of gifts, eats and drinks and sample as... More
