The Bike Garage is an independent family-owned bike shop which set out in 2010. Every year, our cycle hire helps people from all over the world of any skill level experience an unforgettable adventure riding in the Peak District. There is something for everyone! In 2018 we were voted the best bike hire centre in the Peak District by travel site Trip Advisor With Hardtails, Full suspension and Electric models available in a wide range of sizes. All bikes are set up to your requirements with a choice of pedals, suspension adjusted for your weight, swap brake levers to your prefered configuration. All hires come with Helmet, Spares, Tools and OS Map. With guidance on a suitable route depending on your level of experience included. We have examples routes on our website with video and photo guides, GPX files and route profiles. We also offer to drop off/collection bikes to your accommodation.

Lots of pre ride guidance for my wife who was new to EMTB and the offer of route guidance as well ( we were fine as our sons live close by and regularly ride this area - they recommended Bike Garage and EBikes so we could keep up!). We all returned very happy and very dirty. James was kind enough to let my sons clean there bikes at Bike Garage and his service and support was second to none. We have hired EMTBs around the UK and this was by far the best experience we have had. Had a great time trying out an electric mountain bike for the first time. Really impressed with the bike and with the route that James had programmed into the bike computer. Not having to look at a map was a definite plus in the driving rain. The bike was in better condition than me, and got me up and down through 30+ miles of gorgeous Peak District scenery.

I came across James when Googling to find someone to hire an e Mountain Bike from for a day in the Peak District . I’ve now hired a Trek Rail 9 a few times from James with some mates and have been looked after superbly well . James is an enthusiast and you can tell . The bikes are superbly maintained and James spends time setting up the bike for you so all is well . The available routes are all well explained and recently the addition of a GPS makes the job of navigation so much easier than maps .
On my most recent trip last week I had a slight mechanical issue and James came straight out with a spare wheel and we were up and going again in 20 mins . Superb service .
For anyone that hasn’t tried an electric e mountain bike I’d say try one . They really help with the climbs which means you can easily cycle up and down for 25 miles or so . We do the black and red route up Shatton mast looping through the concrete works and then up and around Lady Bower reservoir which depending on how many coffee stops we take takes about 5 hours or so . This uses all the battery up for a 90 kg bloke . I’ve got it now to a fine art !
James has a variety of bikes to suit different skill levels and sizes and we normally hire 4 at a time .
The routes are fantastic and it’s a great day out .
I would wholeheartedly recommend James without hesitation.

Rented 2 trek ebikes today from James at bike garage. These were top spec bikes almost new would highly recommend. James spent time explaining the technical details on how to get the best out of these fantastic bikes! Will definitely be back

An excellent Nike shop for servicing, repairing and building road bikes. I have used them for several years and the service is first class. They have just built up a road bike for me from components that I supplied and the result is faultless. I can not recommend them enough.

Our experience with James was second to none! He took the time to set up the suspension on our rental bikes, explained which routes would be the best fit for us and pre-loaded our gos with the route so we didn’t get lost. I have no doubt that our day mountain biking was as good as it was because of the attention to detail from James & the Bike Garage. It is easy to see that they live bikes!

Hiring the bike was very easy . Having spoken to the owner to ensure I had the right size bike , it was a breeze . Picking up the bike and return was smooth and hassle free .The owner was knowledgeable and a great source of knowledge about MTB bikes . Thank you for a fun day . Recommend these guys ! Great rides out that way ! Looking forward to coming back . ,

It was my first time of hiring a bike and riding in the Peaks, The Bike Garage was highly recommended by one of my friends. First class service, the bikes were ready when we arrived, they checked the seat heights and the suspension sag and increased the pressure if needed. We had a bespoke route to follow that James had pre-programmed onto the GPS and off we went.
The bikes were in great condition, everything worked how it should have, they supplied a tube, pump, tire levers and a multi tool just in case.
Booking the hire was so straight forward online only took a few minutes. I will definitely be back to hire from you again.

We hired two bikes from James, great bikes and in perfect condition. We paid for delivery and collection which was completely hassle free, bikes dropped off and collected at the times agreed. Definitely recommend.

Great bike hire, really friendly owner with a range of routes available in a lovely part of the Peaks. All the bikes are in great condition and ideal for the terrain. We did the Red route which was very challenging but with some great views. Highly recommend the bike garage for hiring mountain bikes

A Grand Day Out
Being new to e-MTB, this was a fabulous introduction from Bike Garage with a hire bike on some great bridleways and tracks. It started well, with James explaining the best way to use the bike and discussing track options from their list of routes. I chose to mix two routes, riding from the Bike Garage on a trail past Thornhill to Ladybower dam. After following the reservoir, I struck up the hill past Crookhill Farm and onto a high grassy ridge to Hagg Side before descending to Derwent Reservoir. I had stunning views over to Derwent Edge and Kinder in the other direction. The bike was superb, giving plenty of power and grip over the varied terrain aided by the full suspension and powerful brakes.
After some food at Fairholmes, I followed an easier track up to Slippery Stones and the start of the Cut Gate route. A lovely romp back to Ashopton followed, with more tea at Fairholmes along the way, then back up to Hagg Side as climbing (and descending) hills on this bike was too much fun not to repeat.
Then back to the Bike Garage, very pleased with the bike, and deciding I must hire again later in the month.
The hire bike performed really well, without any fault and even had two bars of power left after some 31 miles and 2700 feet of ascent. A grand day out.
Thanks to James for friendly, helpful advice, and for an excellent, well prepared Trek e-MTB.
