This is the keep of a castle built all the way back in 1176 and, although depleted of its former grandeur, the ruins offer a tantalising glimpse into the past and breathtaking views of the surrounding area. Owned and maintained by English Heritage this is...More

The drive to Peveril Castle via Buxton offered some of the most amazing scenery. It was a very windy and wet day, but the facilities in Castleton were warm and dry. We decided not to climb to the castle because of the conditions, and because...More

Seriously over priced for the limited building that it is. So didn’t bother - I am sure they would get more than double the visitors if they lowered the cost (shame).

TripAdvisor says it’s open. Therefore we came here to visit the castle. Outside information centre there is a board displaying opening hours and dates. If it’s closed today why they have to advertise it’s open ??? Disappointing !!!

A good little walk up a not too challenging slope from the quaint Derbyshire village of Castleton sits this little 11th century fortification, Peveril castle although now in ruins is still an impressive landmark towering over the village offering good walks and historic rhetoric to...More

We have been to Castleton a number of times but never ventured to the Castle. It is quite a treat there but once there it is beautiful. Wonderful views over Castleton and a well preserved Castle xx Thank you English Heritage xx

There is a steep climb up to the castle - which is really little more than a ruined keep. The path zig-zags up the hillside and there are plenty of seats and hand rails at the really steep bits. As other reviewers have said, the...More

I had wanted to visit Peveril for a while, and incorporated it into a day in the area whilst viewing some nearby caverns. We are English Heritage members, so were not obliged to pay the entry fee, which I noticed quite a few people balking...More

It’s intersting and I’m sure a great piece of history but for the price, there really isn’t much to look at. Bit disappointed to be honest

This was a nice little walk up the side of a hill, killed 1-2 hours nice views and close to a lot of things. It was just a shame the you couldn’t go in due to maintenance

Hi I don't know but if you look up an ordnance survey map of the area it will give you the heights you are looking.
