- Dawn T37 contributionsLovely staff, lovely lodgeJust back from a 2night stay The lodges are set within a lovely site. Upon arrival the reception staff were lovely and checkin was smooth. We booked the chestnut spa lodge. It was nice inside, fairly new and clean. This particular one wasn’t dated or dirty as per other reviews. It just depends what type you book I think. A staff member came round to check that we were happy with the lodge which was a lovely touch The hot tub was lovely and was cleaned daily. The lodge was a decent size and quiet. Plenty of cups, plates, utensils. A small fridge/freezer, kettle and oven. There is Harvey’s sports bar and the watermill restaurant round the back of the site. It’s pretty much the only place to go as there’s not a lot nearby. Cons…. There wasn’t much privacy around your decking and hot tub. See through panels when near a pathway isn’t ideal I feel the fence should cover the whole area and also have a gate ?? Take extra loo roll and towels (for hot tub and swimming) only one each provided and make sure to wash the cutlery, crockery, pans etc before use. The mattresses are hard and left us aching and the pillows are really thin so maybe take your own. We did have a relaxing stay, however, we probably won’t return based on the fact that it wasn’t value for money £349 for 2 nights when you can’t check in til 4pm and you need to be out by 9.30am on the day you leave, doesn’t give you much time. This is by no means on any reflection of the staff and lodge itself but purely the price for what you’re gettingVisited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 September 2023
- Kaz 3011Horwich, United Kingdom13 contributionsPoor start as our 1 bedroom lodge was unclean. We paid for budget, not bad! But the reception team were fantastic! The 1 bedroom lodge we arrived at was older & more dated than we expected. There were clumps of dog hairs around & a full ashtray left for us. This didn’t give us confidence that the kitchen area & crockery was clean. The couch was so saggy & uncomfy as you sank in it. Wardrobe had no doors on. I have to say though, that the reception team were brilliant & said this was unacceptable & within an hour of complaining we had moved to an upgraded lakeside lodge which actually made our stay as the location was lovely & the lodge was a newer large 4 bedroom. The bar & cafe on site had really friendly staff. We never used the restaurant, but it looked nice. My partner likes to fish & said the lakes & shop were really good & staff knowledgable when he went for a days fishing. Location good for trips out. I’d have given a better amount of stars if we had not had the negative start to our week away.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 September 2023
- Steve K13 contributionsAlmost PerfectionWe recently spent a week at the Lakes in one of their lodges with our 2 dogs. The lodge was very spacoius with a double bed, and 2 single beds and 2 bathrooms The kitchen was well equipped and there is a veranda which is partially in the lake. The grounds are clean and tendered. There is a restaurant and cafe situated by the fishing lakes where the menu is second to none and reasonably priced and dog friendly. The only negatives for me were the mattress in the main bedroom, it had clearly seen better days and led to us rolling into the middle. The second is the lack of wifi, it is only available in certain lodges. The wifi in the main reception was also dire. But on the whole we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely returnVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 October 2023
- claireb318 contributionsNice stay just a few minor issuesLovely place to stay very scenic. Lodge we stayed in was nice, although I would say it could do with a touch up. Kitchen and bathroom looking a bit worse for wear, otherwise spot on. Bed lovely and comfortable and hot tub amazing! Staff were OK just didn't look happy, but shout out to the lovely hot tub guy on Sunday who was very cheerful and helpful. My only bugbear was the cleaners on Monday morning asking us how long we would be getting out at 9am. Too early and felt under pressure to leave. A few minor issues though. Our lodge did not have WiFi so be prepared as phone network not great either. Wouldn't be a problem as the site offers WiFi in the main reception area but it doesn't work!! We also had booked a non pet friendly lodge but somehow got a noisy dog next door. I did report it to reception and they did say they would call them but they clearly hadn't checked there were no pets. That said overall a nice pleasant stay would recommend if you like fishing and feeding ducks.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 October 2023

Kids bedroom is fantastic! Brought our dog. Next time will bring some sheets to cover settee. Everything I hoped for and more. Wish I could afford to stay longer. Grounds are beautiful and peaceful. Cant reccomend highly enough.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 6 November 2023
- sali786Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom199 contributionsDecent weekend away. The positives - The lodge was clean, tidy & spacious. The lodge came with crockery and utensils. The outside decking/seating area overlooking the lake was lovely. The hot tub was an amazing feature. The negatives - The beds were uncomfortable. The lodge had no toiletries, washing up liquid, tea bags, literally nothing. The dishwasher hardly cleaned the dishes. Lastly, the private road leading to the lodges… wow I have never seen a road with as many pot holes as this… it was like a road out of a war zone. A fee minor changes and the score could have been a solid 4…. However, I would stay here again as I know what to expect in future.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 26 February 2024
- Tiffany H1 contributionA great little breakWe were so worried as we booked, then read the reviews. We stayed in Lodge 63 & it was nothing like we were lead to believe. Most of the potholes had been filled in, the lodge was spacious and clean. There was washing up liquid & 3 dishwasher tablets so more than enough for our 3 night break. The hot tub was clean, hot & melted all your stresses away. We really enjoyed it, the slight issues, which really didn’t bother us were the wood & wooden furniture could’ve done with a stain. They were really good quality but have been left to deteriorate. And the signal is awful so wifi should really be a thing….but we went away to relax and relax we did ❤️ we’d go back for sureVisited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 March 2024
- YorkshireGoose23 contributionsPerfect for us.We enjoyed a mid week break in lodge 66. The site it was lovely and quiet, plenty to walk around , nice to see the ducks and goats wandering. In the reception area they have guided walks from site which I thought was a nice touch, a little shop for essentials, we didn’t participate in swimming but it’s not such a big pool and can imagine it been busy during peak periods. Our hot tub was perfect, set at 40 degrees and held its temperature. Our lodge is a dog friendly one but unfortunately they don’t have gates on the decking at the front so not too secure, we managed to block ours with a crate from the car but just to make people aware. The lodge furniture does look tired and could do with replacing but that didn’t bother us as we used covers anyway. I would recommend this place, the price and location was perfect for us.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 March 2024
- LoveNZadventuresPenwortham, United Kingdom20 contributionsNot great, not awfulNamed woodland lakes lodges but are static caravans so obviously smaller and less sturdy than a lodge. Advertised as pet lodge but no space for pet anywhere, no additional pet facilities anywhere like dog wash, no dog walking routes etc. No restaurant on site, the cafe is poorly staffed and basic. Overall the whole place felt very tired and lacking in tlc. Only really saved by sunny weather meaning we could do lots of trips out and hot tub when we got back!Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 31 May 2024
- kingkatieLiverpool, United Kingdom16 contributionsGorgeous place to stayAbsolutely gorgeous place to stay with family and friends, would highly recommend it and we will definitely be returning. We stayed in a larch pet friendly lodge with a hottub, and I didn't really know what to expect after reading some of the reviews but we could not have asked for more. The lodge and surroundings were spotless and the hottub was lovely, we got in it every night and the kids haven't stopped talking about it. The reception had a cafe, shop, small arcade and soft play, and there's a little wooden park and restaurant on site too. Loads of ducks and geese everywhere which was really cute. There's a Tesco and lidl about a 5 minute drive away which was really handy, and we had days out in the Forbidden corner, stockeld park and Bolton Abbey which were about a 40 minutes drive away - they were all amazing too.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 28 July 2024

First time coming here and was disappointed our room 3A stank of sewage i have never smelt anything like it for the whole 3 days. The lodge itself needs abit of tlc carpet had been torn, bathroom window didn’t lock as the hinge was snapped. There was a door dividing our room and next doors room witch we could hear literally everything that the guests next door where doing. I had rang reception but nothing could be done as they were fully booked. The lodge we stayed in was dog friendly but didn’t have any enclosure around the outside area to keep the dog in while we went in the hot tub the little fence dividing us and next door had a gap under so next doors dog kept running under it. Also phone signal is very weak to no signal & no wifi in lodges other than reception.
Good points,
Theres is a nice sports bar that isn’t on the complex map just at the top has plenty of tvs to watch live sport. Pool tables too. The complex also has an indoor swimming and a kids climbing area inside the food at the restaurant in reception was nice and not to badly priced although there is a tesco in thirsk around 5-10 drive. Hot-tub was also maintained daily.
Would i go back? Yes but I certainly wont be booking the same lodge.

Awful experience,
Firstly, the checking in time (6pm) reassured us
that our lodge was going to be thoroughly cleaned as a usual check in time is around 3pm. Upon arriving at the lodge, initially we entered to a off-smell and upon further inspection we realised that the bathroom smelt strongly of smoke from cigarettes / drugs. Looking around the bathroom there was tabacco left on the floor. This immediately drew our attention to the cleanliness of the lodge, the floor was covered in dry dirt and grass, aswell as stale food under the sofas and on top of the wardrobes.
By the time we got our belongings in the lodge and attempted to settle in it was nearly 9pm. We began to cook some food and quickly realised that the utensils and kitchen equipment provided had not been cleaned, and had food all over them. The knives had stale food at the tips, the cutlery had not been washed and had food remaining and the pans had leftover food in also, concerned for our health and safety we skipped the meal. Furthermore the kitchen sides and hob were filthy.
The bath contained pubic hairs and was slimy on the outsides and had definitely not been cleaned. And to top it all off. The bed was barely made, sheets still messed up and the bedding stained.
I am certain this lodge has not been cleaned before our arrival, £100 a night and it was ultimately disgusting. Extremely poor hygiene has absolutely ruined our stay.
We raised our concerns the following morning to your staff which insultingly could only offer us a later check out and an offer for the cleaners to come have a look. Dissapointed we arranged a time for the cleaners. They arrived and did another poor job. We are extremely dissapointed with the service woodland lake lodges provided for us on our stay.
It is within your own interests to investigate this matter further with hygiene standards and health and safety. There is a high risk of food contamination and people with allergens could have resulted in a fatal outcome. Aswell as this, we found some type of drug paraphernalia in a set of drawers.

This is by far the worst holiday park I’ve ever stayed at! Mould covered the main bedroom walls where my 3 year old son was sleeping so I tried to pull the sofa bed out which has been screwed down so you can’t use it, so we had to sleep on the sofa! Made them aware of the mould on Tuesday morning and it still wasn’t sorted out till 5pm Wednesday which was only because we rang every hour on Wednesday and even walked to reception to complain. Mould also covers the blinds in the kitchen and the stains on the sofa cushions is beyond a joke how dirty the place is. We asked to be moved and the reply we got was “there is no other availability” even though there’s around 6 lodges around us with not a single person in them.
The metal door strip had screws sticking up so when walking into the toilet they caught mine and my partners foot Everytime.
Then we tried to go swimming but had to get out within 5-10 minutes because the pool might aswell have a sheet of ice over the top of it it’s that cold.
The relatively “warm” tub if you don’t go in before 3:30pm its absolutely pitch black because there’s no lighting anywhere near it apart from the tiny blue light inside of it so that made getting out and in very dangerous, and for it being a hot tub is a joke because it’s not hot at all it’s barely warm at best, and some of the jet covers are missing!
The cafe which is supposed to be open isn’t open at all, the chairs are all stacked on top of the tables and when you ask for anything they reply “we’re closed sorry” that was at 12 noon.
The potholes on all the roads are absolutely horrific all over the park. The staff just rally around on quads and the buggies and don’t actually do any work, they drove past our lodge about 15 times between 3:30pm and 4pm Wednesday but didn’t come to our lodge even though reception had been telling them to come to ours from 1pm.
I could go on all day and night about how bad this place is and after everything that’s wrong even the reception staff were shaking there heads when we went in and complained because they were so sorry however we spoke to a manager and she offered us £50 back like that is going to be enough for a weeks holiday spoilt or a discounted next holiday as if she thought we were going to come back!
Take my advice and stay at home or book somewhere else!!!

We love this place and have been many times we stayed in lodge 80 from 26th July to 2nd of August. Me and my husband arrived on the Friday my daughter and grandchildren on the Sunday evening. From the minute the rest of the family arrived we got complained about apparently we made too much noise the whole time we were there which is strange bearing in mind we had a 5 month old baby with us. The people in lodge 79 constantly slammed windows shut everytime we went outside. The only noise we made was talking no music no tv on. It completely spoilt our holiday when we got home I had a voicemail from reception which should have been for the other lodge saying we would say we were making no noise. It's a shame that they didn't check with the lodge on the otherside before accusing us. I'm sad to say we won't be returning to somewhere that we love.
Maybe before accusing people they should be asking both neighbours not just taking one side.
We people were still there when we left so if your in lodge 80 don't talk after 10pm

Iv been here many times over the years usually very happy with the place but this time was disappointed.
We stayed in a alder spa waterside lodge which don't get me wrong has fab views but the loade its self is very tired and basic ( not luxury at all)
The main issue was the hot tub cover was completely damaged and trying to get the lid on and off was a health and safety hazard to the point my dad pulled his back. I sent pictures to reception to get no response.
The lighting outside is non existent which with the weather been very wet and windy wasn't ideal. My mum is disabled and could barely see where she was walking. The pavement leading to the lodge was cracked in an area which she caught her stick on luckily didn't go flying.
The blind cord in the bathroom is tied together instead of replaced.
The beds in the twin room were that uncomfortable I slept on the sofa which again wasn't the best quality.
I feel the owners now are just more bothered about putting new lodges in the grounds and are neglecting the older ones. If that's the case get rid of the older ones.
The older lodges are very basic and don't look homely like the pictures show.
I will not be returning which is a shame as I used to book this often

The lodge was tired and dirty from unwashed cups, a sofa set that was heavily stained and required steam cleaning, a crack that needed fixing in the bathroom sink which was sharp, the lino in the bathroom lifting throughout, the standing stone for the hot tub smashed so had to be re bedded with a lot of stone put in to stop you falling down a deep hole. No door mat on arrival as it was raining large amount of water on lino making it slippy. Rotten out door furniture and to cap it off hot tub full of flies. By the time all of this was sorted it was wednesday night 1 day left to chill out. The lodge also had the same review a month previously so it's obvious they had not done anything to rectify. I read the review whilst on site ubfortunantly.

We booked last minute as a family of 4 over the bank holiday weekend. The lodge itself was equipped with most things you would need but not having WiFi is a downside. The bed was as others described, a camp bed metal frame that I banged my leg on several times as the mattress moved off it. We also had an awful settee that I can't believe hasn't been replaced and just had a blanket that looked like it was supposed to cover it. The biggest let down was the hot tub which is the main reason we went. Only one jet worked the first night. Someone came out to fix it apparently but it was worse as then a few of the jets worked but there was barely any power to any of them. This was a big disappointment. The park itself is in a nice setting and area. My daughters enjoyed a spa experience and there is a small shop and cafe in the main building. You have to be out of the hot tub by 11pm also, someone came round on a trolley car about 2 minutes to and told us to get out each night. There was no one around us and we were totally silent reading books in there. We found it funny to be getting told off. All that said we did have a nice time but I would only go again if I was guaranteed a fully working hot tub.

We had accommodation booked with Woodland Lake Lodges. I would firstly like to explain how the cleanliness of the accommodation was appalling. We also had a six month old baby who had to have a holiday in this lodge which was very disappointing. My husband had to clean the floor when we arrived on his hands and knees due to the state of it. Also the cutlery we had to clean as this was sticky and dirty. The carpet in the bedroom was full of fluff and bits. The blinds were thick of dust and the shower was mouldy. The settee was disgusting with stains of god knows what on it. We decided to leave early on the Sunday as we felt we could not do another night in the state of this lodge which has really left us so disappointed in this holiday. We will not be returning and please don’t waste your money!

I’d have given a better amount of stars if we had not had the negative start to our week away.

Can you request from reception that they increase the temperature in your hot tub, as ive seen that you cannot alter it yourself as it could knock off the heat all together.

Hi
Me and my partner and our 16 month-old are due to stop in the Alder Executive VIP lodge at Carlton Miniott in a few weeks' time. Has anyone stayed there recently? I'm prepared for broken oven (not taking a camp fire, but will check if still broken upon arrival!), just wondering if there's any privacy with the hot-tub, and if anyone has tried to adjust the temperature to see if possible to take a baby in - some hot tubs you can turn the temperature down to suit. Any other problems with the lodge we might be able to 'prepare' for? Thanks!

Don't think you are allowed to alter temperatures in hot tub. If I can remember it was on the 'hot tub rule list' we had in our lodge. Some hot tubs are private some are not, but there is a sign saying in a round about way don't use it with no clothes on !!!

Think in 2b the hot tubs are private, but don't know what the prefix W means. We have been in 1a (adjoining 1b)

Hi, I am due to stay in willow VIP lodge no25. Could someone please tell me where the hot tub is situated? Also is it in an enclosed area so that my little boy can play safely and do u get muxh privacy while in the hot tub? Do u get slippers and robes or not? Also I've seen a couple of reviews about many spiders, is this an issue in this lodge as I am terrified?
Thank you

you get slippers but never a robe they seam to have a problem with them
the hot tubs are by the side and my 5 and 9 year old were ok
