Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A bit difficult to find as you have to go down an alley to find it.No signs.Admission for seniors is £3.The first floor has a complete and comprehensive narrative of the history of the town, which I found very interesting.
Free parking in the nearby square.

Stumbled across this place during a visit to Towcester, happily filled 2 hours in what is a very well-displayed local museum which has done its research thoroughly. The exhibits are divided into distinct time period that guide you right from the earliest days of humans through to the modern day. The staff were welcoming and polite. Definitely drop in if you are in town, naught more to be said.

We had not known about the museum or planned a visit, but came upon it and went in. Helpful staff, and upstairs a well-laid-out chronological history of the town, from Stone Age to post-war. The two things we found most memorable were the stunning finds - glorious Roman glassware found under the very streets we'd just walked; ancient jewellery and coins - and the two remarkable 'virtual reality' films which showed so realistically how the Roman and Viking battles in the area had been planned and fought. Fascinating - we had not seen anything quite like them.

On arrival at the museum I found the volunteers/staff welcoming and helpful. A cracking little museum which caters for all ages. I loved the children's information panels, based on the 'Horrible Histories' concept and interactives e.g. period costumes for the children to try on. The museum was well laid out with the visitor following a historical time line which started upstairs. I easily spent 2 hours here and would have loved to have stayed longer but had another commitment. I learnt a lot about the Romans and other historical periods. I paid £5 for entry, which was excellent value for money. The impression I had was that this museum was primarily run by volunteers. If you live locally or are in the area visiting then I would encourage you to visit this 'hidden gem'.

This museum was an unexpected but pleasant surprise. The museum presents the story of Towcester and how it is linked with British history. A lot of information given but done in a very informative way so you don't feel overwhelmed. A must-go if you're around towcester.

A superb treasure of a place for an outing of interesting historical artefacts. A complete Jem of a museum full of up-to-date displays, exhibits, artwork and information boards and videos, stayed for quiet a while taking it all in! Brilliant knowledgeable members of staff, both Liz and Jane are a credit to the museum full of charisma. The gift shop is so lovely too offering a beautiful variety of treasures to purchase including the editable. 😋
We would highly recommend visiting this place, especially with children as I know they have a dressing up section for them to try too and put on quizzes and other child friendly activities. Throughly enjoyed our afternoon there today, thank you to everyone who dedicates their time, energy and efforts in order to keep this place running, we the public thank you from our hearts - let’s not loose our history! ☺️

Towcester is a great little town to explore with lots of cute cafes and little shops down historical alleyways and set inside old buildings.
The Towcester museum is just off the main high street and there is a nearby car park which is free and usually always has spaces so its really easy to get to!
The museum itself is very reasonable in price at £3.50pp and we definitely spent an hour in there reading and looking around the gift shop. The shops has lots of cute things for kids and adults, lots of decent books too from local historians which is always nice to see.
Of youre local to Towcester and have ever wondered about the history of your area then this is a great little place to have a look around.
The Towcester trail maps from the museum are also handy as we used it to explore the town afterwards!
