Platypus viewing

Small parking area. We did see the platypus in it's natural habitat. Quiet popular with the locals as well as tourists. Easy access to the viewing area.

The walk along the creek and the viewing platform are great places to try and see the elusive Platypus. However, be patient. These wild Monotremes are there for their benefit, and have no regard for the tourist. I found that early morning and at dusk were the best time to sit and WAIT, be quiet, and stay still. Don't forget... More

Look for what looks like a little wake in the water and that just might be the elusive platypus. The walk along the creek (which goes under the bridge) is particularly great. And don't forget to scan the trees for a tree kangaroo. The platypus are such cute little critters !

As most platypus spotters would attest, there is no guarantee of seeing one in their natural habitat; this though walking along Paterson Creek is as good a chance as you will get outside a commercial operation. Surprise surprise though to see 2 right in front of us mating - they totally ignored us and we had a wonderful sighting.

we walked down to the section at the start of peterson's creek under the bridge and waited for about 20 minutes in the middle of the day when you are less likely to see anything. We saw a platypus, turtles and a water snake. We were the only people there and it's something to do that is free. It is... More

Saw two platapuses! But even if we hadnt seen them it was still a lovely walk down along a little creek. But nearly everyobe we came across saw the platapus as well.

No such thing as a guarantee to see a platypus, they are quite elusive but the chances are good here - it actually seems more realistic to see them in this environment rather than the nearby platypus parks. We actually got better viewings walking further north up the creek , probably best around 5 pm to 5.30 pm.

if you are lucky, and mostly we have been, you can stand on a viewing platform and see these unique animals in their natural environment.

Spotting a platypus in the wild is really, really hard. Luckily this spot is a great chance to see some of these elusive critters float up to the surface - we also came upon a turtle swimming along and a tree kangaroo while walking along the creek. Worth making the detour as it heads for dusk - if you're lucky,... More
