Founded in 2006, Mollydooker Wines is an exciting, out of left field winery in the heart of McLaren Vale, one of South Australia’s oldest and most acclaimed wine regions. Located only a 40-minute drive from the Adelaide CBD, Mollydooker offers a range of their delicious award-winning wines and platters with local and international produce, all while taking in the panoramic views of the surrounding Willunga hills in their newly refurbished cellar door. With a strong focus on the vineyard and creativity, Mollydooker wines have earned numerous awards both locally and nationally, including Telstra South Australian Business of the Year, Australian Winemakers of the Year, Australian Boutique Winemakers of the Year and many more! In 2007, Mollydooker’s Velvet Glove Shiraz became their fifth wine to be awarded 99 points by The Wine Advocate and their Carnival of Love Shiraz has now been listed in Wine Spectator’s ‘Top Ten Wines in the World’ three times!

    Premium tasting
What a beautiful view! Lucky we were early enough to secure a spot for a premium wine tasting. Seriously good wines with fun names… we got a glass to take home to remember this trip.
We are certainly blessed with our amazing views! Thank you for taking the time to write a review, we hope to host you again in the future!

Beautifully designed, great view and good wine
Mollydooker is set on a hill with views across vineyards and landscape. The tasting rooms are extraordinary, worth visiting just for interior design, with dark green walls, plants, wildflower mural and comfortable handsome chairs. The lawns look inviting for children or a picnic. Two 18yos enjoyed their first wine tasting, seated at a table as are more in this region. The moderately priced wines were good quality. We liked the simple $25 verdelho, similar to a Pinot Grigio, suitable for an afternoon on the back deck. The $30 Maître De cab sav was rich enough to enjoy with a steak or spaghetti bol. For me the high end Shiraz were not quite balanced and didn’t match up to other premium wines such as those at Chapel Hill. But all the wines were well made and the setting is fantastic. Well worth a visit.
Wow, what a review! Thank you for writing this, we really appreciate it. We hope to pour you some more wines in the future!

    Exceptional presentation of exceptional wines
Finally made our long overdue visit to South Australia to experience wines and wineries both new to us, and some well known. Mollydooker has long been a favourite but honestly, after visiting, it ranks even higher in my estimation of great wines. From first impressions driving in, to the final sip of the tasting, everything about our visit there was superb. Clive, our South AfricanAustralian server was friendly and informative, We opted for the "Seriously Fun Time" as we were primarily interested in the 'bigger' wines that we were less familiar with. At $30/person this is a great value. Already familiar with "The Blue Eyed Boy" I was not expecting to be so impressed with "Carnival of Love" and "Velvet Glove". Australian Shiraz is often criticised for being over extracted, too big. Applause to Mollydooker for ignoring such criticism and pursuing the ultimate expression of the Australian style. These wines have power yet balance, and while delicious on their own they beg to be paired with some BBQ meats or a roast dinner.
We absolutely love to hear this! We are so glad you were able to stop by and experience our wines in our Cellar Door! Clive is amazing, such an important member of our team and his passion resonates in everything he does. We'd love to host you again someday!

    Mollydooker Velvet Glove Experience
Velvet Glove Experience Ahhh… Mollydooker… you never disappoint. We joined a small group Velvet GloveExperience. Warmly welcomed by Clive doing his first tour. Beautiful setting overlooking the vines, followed by a tour through the winery with fabulous views over the winery and surrounding McLarenVale district. Premium tasting of the full range of gorgeous wines, large platter of local produce. A wonderful 3 hours spent with Clive and left with a boot full of the best wine McLaren Vale has to offer!

We were looking forward to a tasting inside the modern, relaxed looking Cellar Door.
Unfortunately, on entry to the Velvet Lounge I was hastily urged to decide on a choice of paying for a tasting (it was morning) with accompanying tasting plate OR leaving.

We left.

What happened to the good old tasting at a bar setup, usually free or a modest, nominal amount?

High pressure, dismissive attitudes don’t go down well with experienced travellers.

We felt very unwelcome and pressured by staff who attempted to coerce us into the tasting . Previous visits have been great and the wine is good but avoid the cellar door .

A highlight of our time in Adelaide was our winey tour and Velvet Glove Experience. We were absolutely blessed to have Mira showing us the winery, the production and the vineyards. She was super friendly, knowledgeable and easily engaging. We arrived a few minutes early and my wife got to see her very first kangaroos in the wild roaming the vineyard. And as great as Mira was, as friendly as she was, and as delicious as our tailored meal was, it was eclipsed by the wine! We enjoyed our selves for hours tasting the very best Molly Dooker has to offer, including a delicious 2020 Velvet Glove. Mira helped us better understand one of our favorite wines, taught us the ‘Molly Shake’ and walked us thru the various blended and single grape, and single vineyard wines. The experience, tasting some of our favorite wines, just absorbing the Molly Dooker atmosphere and experience was absolutely wonderful. It made the trip to Adelaide from the US East Coast worth the time and trouble. We left joining the Mooly Dooker Wine club. We were already fans, and this just deepened our understanding, appreciation and love of Molly Dooker wines.

We were treated to excellent food, amazing wine & the most pleasant staff who couldn’t do more to make our visit a wonderful experience. Even though there are works going on within the restaurant area staff went out of their way to make us feel welcomed, relaxed & informed. The history of the wine naming was very interesting to hear & the young lady who attended us did an outstanding job. The food we chose for our platter was outstandingly tasty & plentiful & the wines were amazing. The Cabernet & Shiraz was the best I believe I’ve ever had & the Shiraz in fact far surpassed a $150 bottle of “special” Shiraz I bought for our 50th wedding anniversary 5 years ago. If only I’d had Mollydooker Shiraz back then.
The outlook over the lawns & vineyard was truly outstanding topped off by flocks of yellow tail black cockatoos flying over almost on cue.
I would not hesitate to recommend this place for any occasion be it just for a relaxing afternoon or a special occasion.
I’ve been to few places that I would not hesitate to recommend or go back to but this is one that I certainly will be doing so.
Needless to say “I’ll be back”
