Grand Library
5.0 of 5 bubblesSept 2022
Founded in 1873, The Columbus Metropolitan Library incorporates the best of historic architecture with state of the art library technology. From the grand marble staircase to high speed internet access, this three floor library is of museum quality. Street parking is available, as well as, parking in the North Library Parking garage which runs $1 for every two hours. The first hour is free. The parking garage does have a maximum height clearance. There is easy access by bus. The library has three floors with a grand chandelier, high arched ceilings, art galleries, murals, an auditorium, meeting rooms, study areas, cafe, gift shop and of course a ton of books and computer center. The back of the library has a patio and is adjacent to the Topiary Garden. The library has a helpline that can be called for assistance. The online catalog system makes finding what you need easy and convenient. In the event the library does not have what you are looking for they have an inter-library loan system. A unique feature in this library is their online questionaire which once completed allows the library to create a book list tailored to your interests. Ebooks, audiobooks, films & documentaries, movies, magazines, newspapers, comics and graphics are some of the other offerings. I came to checkout their meeting rooms for availability and functionality. The cafe on the first floor named "Carnegies" serves snacks, drinks, fruits, muffins and flavored coffee. The patio in the rear of the building has tables, chairs and umbrellas.

We are out of town tourists who stumbled upon this wonderful library. It is so inviting and has a great kids section along with art and sculpture displays and a cafe and a shop. My littlest could have spent hours here and even my teen had a good time exploring.

A rebuild of the old library, and a masterpiece of architecture worth a stop. Many functions are held here.

I was really surprised how awesome this place was. We went to see the train layout for Christmas and not only was it beautiful but the entire library was beautiful. The art gallery on the second floor is a must see. Also I have to mention the very friendly and helpful staff. We were there 2 hours.

I was amazed from start to finish by this wonderful use of public space. As a visitor I was blown away and wished I could come all the time. I thought the parking garage was a bit off putting for those who might stay for a long time and have lots to carry, but I'm sure it works fine. The seating was beautiful and plentiful on each floor. We were merely looking around but the staff was eager to assist. It's so clean, so accessible. I'm sure the cafe is a huge draw for people who may not normally use the library's services and I thought it was a great highlight. My favorite part was the little friends of the library book store/gift shop. I bought two favorite books and probably could have found more. And then of course the garden in the back was truly lovely on the warm spring day. Definitely go to the library!

We had the Topiary Garden as our stretch legs, lunch spot on our trip. After 10 minutes we had walked the entire park and taken our pictures. Luckily this excellent library is next to the park. We walked around looking at all the art work. We looked at the cute little store and got a coffee. It was a great surprise.

It was good before but now it is really beautiful. Lots of resources. They have an especially good genealogy department.

This is an outstanding Carnegie structure incorporated with a modern addition. Beautiful and aesthetically structure. The inside has the Carnegie beauty incorporated with a great modern structure. The Nigerian art exhibit was laid out to enjoy every piece displayed. They rotate exhibits. Notice the steps going to second floor by a local folk artist. A must see place that I hadn’t taken advantage of when living back there. The park next door is another attraction with a picture exhibited with art expressed using topiary work shrub structures to express the topiary art.

Such a large, beautiful, well lit building. Book displays are done very well and eye catching. The decor is so welcoming. Staff very helpful, pleasant and smiling. Lots of activities for all age groups. The snacks and drinks at the little bistro are a nice touch. Cookies, fruit, yummy muffins, juice and flavored coffees are great when you need a break from all your reading or computer searches.

some friends told us to head to the library because there was a special exhibit featuring art by nigerian women. the exhibit was wonderful and i highly recommend it, but the building itself is worth a look, even after the exhibit leaves--marble and open spaces and tons of light--a work of art in itself. it is right next to the topiary gardens but it was too wet a day to explore those--they looked enticing from the windows, though!
