The lake is vast with boating facilities. We used the boating facilities managed by the Indian Army and also did some swimming in the water. The water was a bit cold but very clear. The lake is huge and has a good picnic area and hangout place.

Speed boat for 5mins will cost you RS. 400 for 3person on the boat. There is one very basic shop selling water /soft drink etc. Entry is... More

In March the lake is practically 40 % or less full and therefore, nothing great to look at. Fortunately, it happens to be on the Shillong - Sohra road - so there is no detour.

I trip to Shillong without going to barapani/ umiam lake is incomplete. One must spend at least half a day here and walk around the lake better still trek up the mountain for the beautiful view of this huge water body ,we stayed at the RiKynjai resort which offers breathtaking views of the lake.

It is a great place on Guwhati Shillong road to visit. There are some water rides available, but we can't enjoy it, because on that day minor rain was there. And during rain they stop these rides.

When we went there in March, there was not much water. It should be looking very good with a lot of water. It is a large lake and boating facility is also available.
