Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It displays lot of things related to the Lepcha culture, traditions and heritage. It is situated in Big Dhara, On display are the musical instrument of that era, manuscripts, worshipping tools and also many other things that speaks volumes about the Lepcha community.

The museum is personal collection of shri Sonam Tshering Lepcha, receiver of padmashree, banga bhushan and numerous award for folk song and dance. He personally guided us during the visit, played folk tunes and sang for us too!
At a point of time it seems like he is the museum himself! If you are lucky enough, this 89 year old show man will guide you through the rich cultural heritage of lepchas :)

Ten years ago, we visited the place to have a look into the Lepcha Museum. We had interest in the museum as we heared that the Lepcha people are indigenous to the region. But when we reached there, we find the museum was locked. We could not find the man with whom the key belonged.
This time, on the 23rd day of December, 2015 we again visited the place. Some boys had been playing in the premises, but they had no clue about the Museum !!! After waiting for a long period, an old man informed us that the doors of the Museum are locked and the key belonged to one Tenzing Tshering. But we did not find Mr. Tshering in the locality.
No one was able to give the whereabouts of Mr. Tshering. We returned back with a feeling of disgust.

Go there, down from the Kalimpong town to the Lepcha school, and the museum is on the first floor. Has old utensils, many musical instruments, models, implements and the amazing 89 year old Padmashree Sonam Tshering Lepcha who will regale you with stories, sing for you, and play all the musical instruments for you. Is a delight.

An amazing collection of artifacts - but the original collector of the stuff " Shri Sonam Tshering Lepcha" was the absolute highlight. He was an inspiration. A great showman, and we were treated by him playing musical instruments and showing us how items were used. Wonderful visit.

The Lepcha Museum is located in the premises of the Lepcha Association and Lepcha students' hostel campus. The result of establishing this centre is the sole handed effort of Padmashree awardee, Sonam Tshering Lepcha, legendary musician and preserver of Lepcha culture. He has preserved numerous indigenous musical instruments, Lepcha weapons and rare manuscripts written in Rong language.
Though the Lepcha population has drastically reduced in Sikkim and Darjeeling region after waves of Bhutia, Tibetan, Bhutanese, Nepali and European migrants since 16th century, this is the only place in the entire region where the presence of age old Lepcha culture can be felt once again.
