The church on the hill overlooking Longyearbyen. Nice walk to the church past the grazing wild reindeer. Just sat in the church, relaxed and took some chill out, quiet time. Go upstairs to purchase a coffee and biscuits (small donations). Nice to just take some time out and admire the exterior and interior of the church/kirke

even you are not a religious person but also can enjoy the quietness, have no idea why people will give "terrible" star for this place---tranquille, peacefull, dont expect you will see a beautiful church like notre dame de paris, it has its own charm when you can go back to the history to imagine in the cold miner time, what kind... I was surprised by the informality of the church - it has a beautiful peaceful ambience and you can grab a tea or coffee and sit in the lounge area. Its location is fab - on the hill looking out over the town. Well worth a visit for the peacefulness alone.

I was giving myself a walking tour around Svalbard, and the weather was pretty dim (rain, sleet, snow, etc.). I got to the Svalbard Kirke and decided to step in. I was the only person in the building. I put on a pair of slippers and headed upstairs, got a coffee and a biscuit (always set out and avaialble for... More

On a day trip from cruise ship, walked round town & found Svalbard Kirke, a delightful building with the modern Church at one end & coffee shop at the other

A lovely little church which provides a homely contrast from the harsh realities of life and work in an arctic climate. The entrance hall with its cloakroom and grandfather clock leads upstairs to a warm, cosy, colourful lounge area where the congregation can meet and relax. This leads to the church itself. Church staff are friendly and welcoming to visitors.... More

Lovely little church built a bit along the design of a boat. Has an area at the back where the congregation can socialise, which is a good idea.

How can you not visit this church? 1, It is the northernmost church in the world. 2, It is open 24/7. 3, There are no crowds - you may well be the only one in the church. 4. This must be the only church in the world with a stuffed polar bear. 5, They provide you with croc-like slippers to... More

The world's most northerly church - open all the time -- for those reasons alone it's worth a look - the day I went I was the only person there - it's understated and homely and if you are taking a walk around the town you should definitely pop in - they provide crocs for you to wear when inside.
