We've had a brilliant day out exploring the forest and following the gruffalo trail - great fun with 2x two year olds who were occupied all the way there and back with plenty to see and do. The trail is easy to get round with...More

Firstly, let me set this straight; the 1* rating is purely for the tea room (as they like to call it) and not for the forest itself. If it wasn't for what we experienced today by a certain waitress in the cafe, then this review...More

My partner and I visited today for the first time in around 18 months. We love the place usually but today that all changed. We took the dog on the long orange walk of 4.5 miles and enjoyed at least a quarter of it. After...More

Beautiful setting and great walk with the contrasting colours and crisp air. We did the gruffalo trail with our nine month old and managed easily with a pram on the walk. Lots of activities to do to make the walk longer for older children such...More

This review seems to be describing High Force Waterfall in Teesdale, not Hamsterley. From personal experience Hamsterley is excellent and offers all kinds of difference types of trails, some fantastic downhills and plenty of climbs too. The skills park is also great. Parking is pricey...More

Beautiful autumn walk with our 3yo. He had great fun looking for the Gruffalo and co, and the Highway Rat trail kept him interested. £6 for parking seemed a little steep but didn’t mind as all the trails and parks were beautifully kept and the...More

The kids loved it here, the parks are amazing, the Gruffalo walk is fun and there's plenty of parking. The Parking is £6 all day may seem steep for some but trust me its work it. We took a picnic and spare clothes so the...More

Lovely scenery along the cycle way. Followed the blue route, a few steep hills, couldn’t go very fast on the decline as there was a lot of loose gravel, not ideal on bikes, nearly fell off a couple of times. Found the parking prices a...More

Go every year to this place as it is our favourite place to go every year. We go for whole day and take a picnic and games for all family to play. Loads of walks and rivers to paddle in.

Took a ride through the forest. I suspect it is a lot busier on weekends and during the summer. It was brilliant ride, that takes about an hour, driving gently, from one end to the other. You can enter at the Bedburn end and come...More

Shady walk with my neighbour's dog , take wellies, it's always soggy somewhere. Go in the winter when it's snowing ,it's beautiful.

Most of the trails are well marked. I suppose it depends how far you wander. We've never been concerned, just follow the stream and you'll find your way back

It is expensive £6.00 a day. You can park for free in other places and walk into forest via public footpaths.
