- maurine5 contributionsAlways goodHave visited the show many many years and always enjoy it. Enjoyed the comedian again this year until I came home and checked him on line. Didn’t need to watch him at Thursford. Every part of the act was on line for years. Needs to change and be updated!!!Visited December 2022Travelled with friendsWritten 12 December 2022
- chandler6420183 contributionsNot as good as I thought it would beWe paid £52 each ticket for the Thursford Christmas Spectacular so I thought it would be as good as a London Theatre show. The costumes, sparkle, musicians, and dancers were great. One or two singers hit a bum note but mostly ok. The person that held the show together was Kev, an Albanian comedian compere, he was fantastic. We could have listened to him all afternoon. He was hilarious. The show was bitty and had no structure. They would do better running a complete story. The couple next to us left at the interval! Beware of the steak slice too, mine was cold and left me with a bad stomach for the rest of the day and the following!! Also watch the prices in the shops - we noticed one plastic sleigh ornament was priced over £50 and you can buy the same in B&M for £20. Slightly overpriced I think.Visited December 2022Written 12 December 2022
- Sovereign SharonNorthampton, United Kingdom45 contributionsNot a very Spectacular ChristmasI had heard great things about this show and so went with friends to celebrate two birthdays. Unfortunately our £55 tickets had a very restricted view due to upright posts. The tiered seating was only tiered by a couple of inches and therefore meant that I couldn't see over the person in front of me. I spent three hours trying to look round heads and posts. The performers were good, comedian/compere was funny, but there seemed to be no flow to the production, it just felt like lots of random things thrown together. I have to say that I was really disappointed. There is also a light show experience on at the site. This would have cost a further £20 to visit so we didn't bother, having paid so much money I think it would have been nice to have had that included in the ticket price, they already have a captive audience for the food and drinks so having us stay for that would only have increased their chances of us spending more money.Visited December 2022Written 13 December 2022
- louise hNorwich, United Kingdom2 contributionsOkAfter hearing so many fantastic reviews from previous years, my family and I were extremely disappointed. It certainly wasn't spectacular at all. The stage and costumes were fantastic but that's it. How some of the singers actually got parts I do not know. Some parts of the show seemed to have been thrown in to fill some time, like a lady juggling balls. It's basically a variety show and most of it is absolutely nothing to do with Christmas. My daughter actually asked if we could leave on more than one occasion. We have been to Cromer pier summer and Christmas shows over previous years and can honestly say their performers and shows have been SO MUCH.Visited December 2022Travelled with familyWritten 19 December 2022
- BobSt. Neots, United Kingdom234 contributionsChristmassy content gets less every year.Yesterday was my 29th visit to the Thursford Christmas Spectacular. It is an amazing show but, sadly, the Christmassy content seems to reduce year on year and is becoming more of a London Theatre Cabaret show than a Christmas show. The only difference being one would pay a lot more money to see a London Cabaret show. We might go next year for one final visit, haven't decided yet. The other downside is the free for all to get out of the car park after the show. The marshalling staff are extremely efficient and helpful with getting cars in and parked but it is a different story trying to get out. There is no help, no organisation and it is a free for all with those having the strongest nerves to battle their way into moving traffic, coming from all directions, being the winners. It took us over an hour to get out last night.Visited December 2022Written 23 December 2022
- GeorgieKettering, United Kingdom6 contributionsCreepy and bizarre, avoid! When we arrived, on what should have been a busy day in the summer holidays, the car park was practically empty, which set alarm bells ringing. But, unfortunately, we went in anyway. It is a very odd place to visit. Half of the exhibit has Christmas items stored around it, it looks a mess. It’s also really off putting trying to look at the steam engines and tell our children about them when there are Pink Panthers or demented looking monkeys straddling them. One of our children said “this place has creepy vibes” and to be honest, she wasn’t wrong. Rides only run for very specific time slots, which is also disappointing for the younger ones who would have liked to have gone on a couple of times, but we just weren’t prepared to wait in this strange place for the second time slot, because it was pretty awful. Cafe was adequate. Toilets were clean. Park was average. Would never visit again. Please learn from our mistake and don’t waste your money.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 14 August 2023
- Jeff C7 contributionsNot that spectacular!!Sadly this year was only spectacular in name only. The host was more suited to a comedy club rather than this venue. The food in the restaurant was expensive, and equally unspectacular. On the plus side, the dancers and singers were amazing. Not enough wow compared to last year.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 November 2023
- UptheOsLondon, United Kingdom62 contributionsNot Quite As Good This YearWe have been to the Christmas Show many times, it is always enjoyable and a great spectacle but this year overall left the 5 of us pretty flat. We know how lucky we are to have such a wonderful venue and well staged show in our rural area but the content this year was, we felt, not up to scratch compared to previous years. Why? Well firstly and mainly the compère/comedian who was crude, smug and managed to compare himself in one “wordsmith” skit to the all time greats. Get a life man, you wouldn’t make the undercard on any of their shows. Quite the poorest link person we have seen there, lots of positive energy but not much memorable content. The singers, dancers, musicians were all first class in their own spheres as were most of the variety acts. The exception was the mountain biker. What the heck that was all about we don’t know. So you have someone who can control, bounce and manipulate a mountain bike - it really didn’t translate into a stage act particularly on a raised stage with little ability to see the stage floor. Overall though we didn’t feel that the show had any great balance or flow. There was too much orchestra and singing in the second half and the Mary Poppins content in the show didn’t produce the normal show stopper we normally enjoy. Having said that the Irish Dancing in the second half was controlled, skilled and performed to a very high standard indeed. The isle performances also showcased the singers and their superb voices wonderfully. We don’t regret going and will be back, just some personal thoughts on this year from us. Here’s to 2024.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 2 December 2023
- Sue L2 contributionsWatch out for the matinee conThe show was amazing BUT if you go to a matinee as part of a coach trip when you buy the additional ticket to go into the Wonderland ( Well worth seeing) you are told you will NOT SEE THE LIGHT SHOW (as you have to return back to the coach immediately. They need to empty the car park to get the evening coaches in.) You have access to the light walk but as you can see from my picture while it's pretty in daylight it's not the magical experience it is sold as So you pay the full concession price for HALF the experience the evening visitors will getVisited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 2 December 2023

Came to Thursford Spectacular probably about 15 years ago, vowed I’d never go back, but here I was, yesterday, back with friends. I have to admit the show is, as it says on the tin, a spectacular. Dancers, singers, a juggling duo, a bmx stunt biker, a roller skating duo (there was me praying they didn’t come off their platform into the audience lol), an orchestra, a fabulous organ player, doves and bag pipers. However the best act for me was the compere - I usually find compères a bit bland and quite forgettable - but not this one - it takes a lot to get me to laugh out loud, but he managed it !! Some of his jokes would totally go over the heads of any kids in the audience so I wouldn’t worry if you taking youngsters. Yes the place is packed, and I would say the majority are the older generation, but everyone’s in a great Cmassy mood, and I guess that’s the point !!

Quite simply the best Christmas show I’ve ever seen.
Would probably go as far as to say best variety show. It creates the spirit of Christmas from the very first second. From the pipers to the Singers and dancers, including the brilliant musicians and guest artists everything was just perfect.
Theres a great blend of traditional Christmas nods and more modern festive fun. It all blends seamlessly into a show that can’t help but put a huge smile on your face!
I’ll be back next year with the whole family as it’s a show for all generations.
Special mention to the host, Lloyd Hollett who held the whole piece together with a mischievous sense of fun and frivolity. Haven’t laughed like that in a long time.

The “comedian” and I use that term very loosely was rubbish. Not remotely funny - his jokes were so dated and stale. Really let the show down for me. Please please please get a new host/ comedian for next year!
The dancing and singers were amazing and so very talented!
Interested bmx and roller skating performances though not very christmasey and a little out of place.
Would I go again or recommend it?!
Probably but finger crossed a new host with fresh new ideas.

Firstly I would like to say that myself and my family enjoyed the experience of santas magical journey including the light trail. However, that's where the fun stopped. We visited the barn cafe and got a sest straight away. I then went to get some food only to be told, card only. We were paying with cash. The choice of food was very poor and no childrens meals for our 3 year old granddaughter. I chose a curried pasty, but the cashier didn't believe me so asked me to smell it. I did, yes it was curry. Paper plates, wooden cutlery and vending machine coffee. Water £1-90. The waitress was trying to clean our table and couldn't wait for us to leave for the next customers. Baby
Changing facilities not brilliant considering this was for children. We felt that this place was stuck in the past and catered for bus loads of senior citizens and not young families. Maybe lunchtime was not the time to visit.

Fabulous show again this year. Dancers were spectacular and i absolutely loved their costumes, the comedian was funny and I’m sure no 8 year old would even understand his jokes so I have no idea why anyone would stress over them. It’s a variety show and there are always skaters, gymnasts or jugglers included in the show . I enjoyed the BMX rider and like seeing different acts.
We ate at the restaurant and the food was lovely and the servers very kind and helpful. Everybody everywhere was pleasant and made it a special experience.
On the downside I do agree that the seats are to small luckily the people next up us never turned up so we had extra room. Also I was not happy that everywhere was cashless even the raffle as I believe people should be able to spend paper money should they wish to.

Absolutely stunning production.
We went to this show for the first time having heard so many good things about it. Five stars without a doubt.
Excellent entertainment from start to finish with West End quality music from the orchestra, singing, dancing, comedy and speciality acts. Everything about it was so professional including from the lighting and backstage staff, staff in the bar and shops and everything took place in a wonderful Christmas setting.
There is nothing not to like about this show. Highly recommended.

We had heard many good things about the Thursford Christmas show over the years, seemingly half the people we know had been at one time or another, now we know why they rave about it and return. We booked for the afternoon show, over half the audience had arrived by coach, so the car parking was close to the entrance. As you enter there is a large tent structure serving food then a courtyard of gift shops. As you enter the building there is another shop, ice cream parlour sweet shop and a cafe. Insidede the auditorium there is yet another cafe and a bar. So plenty of food opportunities if you actually use your eyes. The auditorium is unlike any other theatre, the stage is well over 100 feet wide with all the seating on one floor, albeit the rear rows are slightly elevated. They say the capacity is over 1400, it was full for our visit. Be aware latecomers aren't admitted until after the 1st number due to the singers being in the aisles. The first half is full stage numbers interspaced with the compere and other acts, the 2nd half has the orchestra centre stage with dancing on the sides and front. Everything is big at Thursford, 32 musicians 18 dancers in the line, over 60 singers and half a dozen for the other acts. The only non positive comment I would make is that the finale wasn't particularly strong, one minute they were there, then gone. We were sitting close to an aisle so we're very close to the singers at times, their diction was perfect. We then went to see the light show. It starts off indoors then goes outside with yet another cafe indoors. As we hadn't seen it before it was good, but photos seem to suggest it doesn't alter from year to year. We paid £94 for two tickets near the front and £18 for two coffees two sausage rolls and two cakes, great value compared to London events As to the moaners, what do you expect a line of dancers to wear? Overalls and wellies? If your children are so delicate as to be upset by the costumes, you had best keep them away from the beach and the swimming pool.

The dancers, orchestra, singers and organist were brilliant. The compare ok. Although good acts we always feel the fill ins’, this year a cyclist, skaters and jugglers just take the whole spirit of Christmas away. I’d much prefer the piper, solo singer or the orchestra to fill in and keep it Christmassy. The finale was ruined with the audience walking off, it was so rude.

Thank you to all the beautiful singers, dancers and entertainers and also to the lovely staff in the restaurant who all made our evening so enjoyable. The show was amazing, we thoroughly enjoyed all the acts and it has certainly put up us into the 'Christmas Spirit'. The Winter Wonderland and Light Show were fantastic and we are in awe at the work that goes into creating such a special 'Christmas Spectacular'. Looking forward to coming back next year.

It was a wonderful 3 hours of pure escapism. I would happily have stayed for the evening performance. It is such a professional performance - dancing singing and of course the orchestra. The costumes are stunning. It is not my first visit to thursford christmas and i will go next year. I certainly can recommend anyone to go.

Hi there, Whats the best time to arrive for the 7 p.m. spectacular (not doing the light trails) if you wanted to have a good look around and get a meal in the Pavilion beforehand? Oh and how busy does the restaurant get before a show? Thanks in advance :-)

I would recommend getting there about 5.15-5.30 which means that the people in the 2pm performance will be on their way out or left as the restaurants do get busy. There are various restaurants dependant on what you want. That should give you plenty of time but I would go eat and go to the restaurants first then look around after that.

Are the rows of deluxe seats raised so u can see over the person in front please
Bob
St. Neots, UK234 contributions
Hi, The deluxe seats in the green section are all on the flat. Unless you are unlucky and get somebody really tall in front of you there is generally a very good view and that is where we always sit. The front row is too close for our liking as you are looking up to the stage, which is about a metre or so high.
I would like to know which hotels do a package for the show ie take you to the show and provide B+ B

Sorry cannot help you. We were holidaying in the area and saw an ad for the steam engines.
Thursford themselves may have a list of hotels offering a package. I found the staff excellent when I left my walking stick behind.

Can anyone advise good seats in the left hand side of the stage

We sat on the right hand side of the stage with no viewing problems as the stage is split into three distinct areas with the artists in all of them.

Hello, I am looking to book tickets for this event and noted your comments regarding the seating. Is it just the let room that is an issue or the width of the seats as well?
Thankyou,
