Beautiful area with lovely walks on the heath and through woods. The beach is shingle with a little sand at the water edge enabling a walk on the beach. Lots of bird watching ( no interest to me) but the scenery and views are amazing...More

Excellent place for rambling, dog walks and bike rides. Plenty of free car parks and a great place to spend an afternoon all year round. My son learnt how to ride a bike here and now knows it like the back of his hand. Never...More

Good clean beach with lots of space to loose your self from the crowd. You can get fish and chips, a drink or ice cream from the restaurant at the car park.

Peaceful spot by the sea with different walking routes available. There are plenty of benches along the way to rest and just enjoy the view. NT tea room with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and toilets available as well.

Going to answer my own question having just got back. yes it is fine to swim from if a bit stony & relatively sloping. Young children would need watching. High & Low tide marks are realtively close to each other

Usually in the Lake District and on the Lancashire moors it is September through to October, I would guess given a week or so it should be around the same time.
