Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were staying in Felixstowe for one night on Saturday 13th January 2024.We walked through these delightful gardens to get to and from the sea front and even in Winter they looked pretty and well looked after.

The seafront gardens are unusual, possibly unique. Essentially, they are cliff gardens carved out of the soft sandy crag that underlies much of the Suffolk coast. Although the climate of Felixstowe is famously dry, the gardens are watered by natural springs of very pure, lime free water. Look out for palms, Jerusalem sage plants, red hot pokers, and other exotic species. Also, look out for the former Felix Hotel, now flats.
The Empress of Prussia holidayed in the area in the late 19thC.
Slightly inland, several buildings by Cotman (The architect, not the painter.) are to be noted. There are brick houses with ornate gables, turrets and verandahs. The railway station is his as is The Orwell Hotel opposite. Unfortunately, the latter is now sadly disfigured by two thoughtless modern extensions.

It's an interesting place to visit offering many delightful plants and views. Some very steep hills to walk but lots of seating to rest and enjoy the scenery.

Nice selection of flowers, fragrant roses and a break from the sea breeze, enjoyed the winding paths & seating areas.

The gardens are beautiful and quite extensive. There are places you can sit on a bench and watch the world go by. Some of it is inaccessible for wheelchairs as it is built into a bank with steps but there are areas that are flat and some slopes too. The gardens are normally well-stocked with plants and there are some water features which sound relaxing. Well worth a visit if you come to Felixstowe.

A warm summer afternoon, clear blue skies and the sound of a rolling sea, flask of coffee and a local cake. The sea front gardens provide the idyllic setting. Well kept and mostly peaceful.

Beautifully kept, these gardens are absolutely stunning. Lots to see, little waterfalls and ponds with fish in and such. A credit to Felixstowe indeed.
