About
Felixstowe Museum houses 14 galleries displaying the military and social history of this popular seaside resort and outlying area. Even the building is of historical interest as it was once a submarine mining establishment and is possibly the last example of such in the world.

What a hidden gem this small museum is. I remember going there several years ago and thinking it was quite good, but now so much work has obviously gone into making it a tremendous experience, We started by having a very good cup of tea and biscuits outside and then did the tour. There's so much of interest on different subjects. Obviously plenty of military exhibits including a fine collection of model aircraft, but also stuff about paddle steamers, the development of the port and general material on the different eras. We chatted with three volunteers, all of whom were friendly and knowledgeable. We though we'd be spending 20 minutes inbetween birding on the reserve, instead we were an hour and a half. fantastic!

The kids had fun looking for the owls in the trail and learning all about floating planes at the museum today! Staff really friendly and generous with their time. A great location by the visitor centre and beach too!

We had a great time visiting the museum on its day of reopening on 30th May. There was lots to see and the covid safe one way system worked really well. The staff and volunteers were so friendly and informative, it was well worth the reasonable £3.00 entry fee. There was a very affordable cafe and we were able to sit outside in the sun shine on the provided picnic benches to enjoy our drinks. Definitely worth a visit.

Wow, thanks for visiting us on our opening day. We're delighted that you felt safe and secure with all our new procedures in place and that you found plenty to see. It's something of an Aladdin's cave isn't it? Thank you for recommend us to other TripAdvisor members. We certainly feel that there's something for (almost) everyone at Felixstowe Museum.

Hi there. We are a bit perplexed about your review as we don't have any steps in Felixstowe Museum. We were wondering whether it's our neighbours at the Fort which you may have visited in 1/2 term week? We've been closed since late October but open to the public again on Easter Sunday.

As a wheelchair user the museum is easy to manoeuvre around with so much to see in a great, friendly museum. The exhibits are laid out in a clear, informative and entertaining way; really enjoyed all the model crafts as well as the social history exhibits. Museum staff are all really friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Looking forward to visiting again next year.

Thanks so much Helen. We're pleased it was easy to get around the museum and it's great for others to know this. We have had criticism in the past (usually from people with the larger wheelchairs) so it's good to read that you managed without a problem. We do have a basic wheelchair available if people need it. We're delighted you enjoyed looking around and getting along with our front of house volunteers. It'll be fab to see you next year if you can come again.

So sorry we didn't acknowledge your review at the time. We seem to be having a glitch with our TA account so yours had slipped in under the radar. Thank you for your kind words about our display of uniforms and model ships, exhibits which are sometimes overlooked. There are so many stories to tell about Felixstowe and area and the visitor generally finds too much to take on board at their first visit. We're now open with Covid protection well in place. Come back and see us when you can. Thanks again for taking the time to review us.

This museum is the best independent museum I have ever been to!
The staff are amazing, the exhibition well laid out and informative.
Over the holiday days they are having a dinosaur trail (usually I believe it's owls) which was amazing fun!
The whole museum is immersive, and brilliant!
I was soooooo happy we stopped by!

Wow, thanks so much for your very kind comments; what a fab review! We're always happy to tell the Felixstowe story to our visitors as well as to welcome younger ones with child friendly activities. Each summer there's a special trail laid on and we have several fun days during our open season. The temporary exhibitions change over the winter too so come again and find out something new!

Fabulous museum with excellent staff, everything is labelled and explained. It has one room where the exhibits are changed to a different theme each week. There were preparations for a dinosaur themed childrens' event planned for end of July beginning of August, The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. We did not expect to stay long but were there for two hours. An afternoon well spent.

Thanks so much for putting in a review, and such a lovely one too. We're also a good port of call on a hot day as most of the rooms are cooler than outside. Well done for staying for 2 hours - what stamina! There's so much to see in our 'Aladdin's cave' of a museum; we feel we offer excellent value for money at £2 per adult
