- Louis1 contributionNot to be missed!Welcoming staff, smiling, and brimming with helpful information .... Niel was the perfect entryway host for this charming museum. So much to see please allow ample time to expore. A real treasure for Bexhill-on-SeaVisited February 2023Written 24 February 2023
- Donna J2 contributionsBexhill museumWhat a lovely town museum, the volunteers were very helpful friendly and enthusiastic, as well as knowledgeable. The museum it self has a wide selection of historical works including a wonderful collection of clothing throughout the ages. There is a transport section that has a wonderful N gauge snow layout and a OO gauge which belonged to Eddie Izzards family. Well worth a visit.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 March 2023
- VKS99Reading, United Kingdom54 contributionsAn excellent local museumThis is a really well presented and varied museum. The exhibits include a range of objects to illustrate the history of Bexhill and its people, as well as larger individual exhibits such as the model railway layouts and the racing cars. In addition, there is a large gallery of textile items illustrating fashion and clothing over the last 250 years. The volunteer staff were incredibly friendly and helpful without you feeling pounced upon, and allowed you to wander and explore on your own whilst being very willing to chat about the exhibits in a knowledgeable and informative way. We spent over an hour wandering around and could have stayed longer if we had more time.Visited March 2023Written 5 March 2023
- Greenlake18 contributionsHow a museum should be !!What a lovely museum. There are many varied displays to look at and the staff, many of whom are volunteers, are very knowledgeable and helpful. The Izzard family trainsets are wonderful and have buttons to press - which appeals to both old and young. My husband and I visited for the princely sum of £2.50 each (old wrinklies rate) and it would have been a bargain at twice the price. An ideal way to spend a morning or afternoon at Bexhill. As the museum backs onto Egerton Park you could even make a day of it.The parking on Bexhill seafront is only £2 for 10 hours (8am to 6pm) so all in all it's a bit of a bargain.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 March 2023
- Philippa G6 contributionsFascinating history of a town that encapsulates wider historical trendsWe spent a very enjoyable morning at Bexhill Museum. Bexhill has a fascinating - and sometimes surprising - history encapsulating British history from colonialism, to the massification of leisure and the rise and fall (and rise again?) of the British seaside. It covers sporting history, history of the railways, the role Bexhill played in popularising blues music and more! The staff and very helpful and knowledgable too. Well worth a visit and you will definitely discover things you never knew including the original plans for the De La Warr Pavilion… I urge you to go!Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 June 2023
- Lord Brett M15 contributionsExcellent Tardis of ArtefactsExcellent Tardis of artefacts. From what appears outside to be a very small establishment once you enter, all becomes clear how large the premises actually is. A very interesting establishment containing everything from world record breaking land vehicles and steam powered cars, to Egyptian artefacts, dinosaur footprints, a stunning mineral collection, 2 fabulous train sets owned by (Suzie) Eddie Izzard, a wonderful history of how the museum was created amongst an array of other exhibits, if one is lucky, they can even have a personal guided tour by the very informative and helpful Gordon. We'll worth a visitVisited June 2023Travelled soloWritten 28 June 2023
- Ramona_JoanHereford, United Kingdom36 contributionsWell worth a visit- some beautiful displays.A charming museum, with helpful staff. We had to look around separately as we were not permitted to walk around together with our dog. The artefacts on display are many and extremely varied. My favourite part was the clothing/costume display and also Eddie Izzard’s childhood train set. The miniature town of Bexhill under snow, during war time was phenomenal too. I liked the interactive buttons to see the trains, trams & church bells working. Well worth a visit to this fabulous museum.Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 June 2023
- Rosa G1 contributionBexhill on sea: Local museum worth a visit. This small local museum is staffed by volunteers who are very knowledgeable about the exhibits. I liked especially the snow covered model of the town and seeing the little tram and train run on the tracks. The costume gallery is also a delight.Visited June 2023Travelled soloWritten 29 June 2023

There are so many volunteers who speak to you as you walk round telling you so many facts about artefacts at the museum, so very interesting. A gentleman volunteer spoke to us in depth about the Trainset which was gifted by Izzy Izard, it shows Bexhill town in miniature and the gentleman knew so many wonderful stories from WW2 about the history of the area, it made our day. Would 100% recommend visiting here.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 9 July 2023

Great find on a cold day. Can’t believe we’ve never been before. We received a really warm and enthusiastic welcome from the volunteers. All were very knowledgeable and offered lots of additional information. Lots of interesting exhibits with lots of local finds. Trains, cars, clothing, war, nature even dinosaurs! Go and see for yourself if you’ve never been.

Loved this place. A diverse range of artefacts in this museum. The whole place was well organised and laid out to easily navigate. The highlight was the knowledgeable staff who explained about the exhibits and gave us lots of historic information about Bexhill, thank you, it was much appreciated.

This is an absolute gem of a museum. And made all the more fascinating and enjoyable by the warm welcome and guidance on offer from the team of volunteers. And the highlight of course was the Eddy Izzard inspired model railway.

We really enjoyed Bexhill-On-Sea museum, the museum has 2 different miniature train sets which go around an accurate miniature Bexhill-On-Sea. The museum tells you facts about the history of Bexhill, including events like World War Two. However the museum is fairly small and only takes around. 45 mins to 1 hour to complete.I would recommend going to this if you have time but it isn’t a must see!

We visited thinking an hour or two would be enough - no! After 1.5 hours we hadn't left the first exhibit hall!
So much to see and take in ..far too much for a casual glance!
The volunteers were welcoming and friendly, with Angela being exceptional.
We forgot and weren't prompted for Gift Aid, so that was a shame.
Definitely on our To Do list for our next visit to the area .

Truly welcoming and entertaining little museum - with something for everyone. Dinosaur footsteps, a Roman gladiator helmet, taxidermy, Winston Churchill’s boyhood dress, a knitted swimsuit, Eddie Izzard’s family railway set. Planes, trains and automobiles! All for £4 - and really knowledgeable museum staff/volunteers - would recommend to anyone.

Lovely welcome from really friendly and 'proud to be here' people. There are plenty of fascinating exhibits upstairs but it appears a little muddled and lacking logic. Prehistory sits next to a model of the de la Warr which is above a drawer containing a model of the farm at the Battle of Waterloo; an original Lowry is hidden behind a piano and a soldier mannikin, under a huge spider crab. We loved the story of the little boy and the Bison tusk but the story isn't next to the tusk. Adults can sort this but for children it could be confusing. The downstairs galleries are better and the local history is interesting. It really is very worth a visit, give the museum and yourself time.
