Museum not to be missed
Oct 2021
Probably the best Museum of a town I have ever visited.
So many displays and interesting facts.
Packed with objects displayed in pristine condition.
Eddie Izzard connection fascinating, including a train set and model of the town.

Super museum

Wow! What a great place! The team are superb and so knowledgeable and easy to talk with. The layout is amazing and it is much bigger than you can imagine. Lots of information about the war and more. Much more! Eddie Izzard’s train set and an even bigger one based on the town. Lots of contemporary history too with Nokia phones and Star Wars memorabilia- and a wonderful promotional film made probably in the late 50s or early 60s. Also info and costumes from the film 6 Minutes to Midnight and really amazing footage of Eddie Izzard interviewing someone who worked at the school. Delightful. I will be back.

The enthusiasm of the team here is remarkable!

We absolutely recommend coming to visit the museum. The staff are so knowledgeable. The exhibits are diverse and very personal, ie Eddie Izzard’s train set and gift to his late father. The Nazi school for girls is absolutely fascinating that at that time in the 1930’s residents didn’t really pay much attention to it as it was just another finishing school. Operation Sealion could have caused devastating results for the town of Bexhill too. All the stories are alive here still. And what a great way to enjoy Bexhill than to hear history from it’s own residents.

Packs a punch
Aug 2021
Manned by willing, knowledgeable volunteers, Bexhill Museum is not that big as museums go but it certainly packs a punch. It's an eclectic collection, there's stuffed birds and fish, diving fighter planes, racing cars, a steam car and even Eeddy Izzard's boyhood train sets. The exhibits are well described and there is also a research section.

A lovely place to visit
Aug 2021 • Friends
We went to the museum in the first day of holiday as it was indoors and it was raining. Glad we made the trip. The staff/volunteers were all really friendly and shared lots of useful information. The model railway of Bexhill in the 60’s is fascinating and the talk given is great. We really enjoyed seeing it. Definitely worth a visit.

Okay museum, depending on what you’re interested in . . .

My husband and I were staying in Bexhill for our mini-moon and thought we would give the museum a try. The layout of the first part of the museum seemed a bit tight and as there were several other people admitted around the same time as us, it was difficult to get past and actually look at what we wanted to in peace. Some of the exhibits were more interesting than others. We did feel irritated by one of the volunteers; we were trying to look at and read the displays ourselves but she kept butting in trying to give us information which was already on the display. I understand they are passionate about the museum but they should leave people to look around/take in the information at their own pace and without interruption, unless we’d initiated conversation and wanted to know more. For me, this spoilt the experience somewhat because I couldn’t concentrate or process what I was reading. The Bexhill model presentation was interesting - a shame the sound effects weren’t working but still a nice experience. The toilets are in the complete wrong place - people had to squeeze their way through past the presentation area to access the toilets, which is obviously inconvenient and interrupts the presentation for those listening. On both entering and exiting, we heard staff sharing how much money the museum had taken on various days. I can imagine they are proud that people are visiting, but it’s a bit distasteful discussing profits when customers are in earshot. Not sure if I would visit again but for the reasonable admission, it’s worth a look around for a couple of hours.

Fantastic family museum
Aug 2021 • Family
Don't be put off by outside, this museum is excellent. Eddie Izzard's train layout and a truly awesome new layout showing snow covered Bexhill in 1940. Great modelling, huge layout, highly interactive. Motor racing, dinosaur footprints, mammoth tusks, Ww2 artefacts, Spike Milligan. We had a great time. Admission cheap. Our 6 year old enjoyed it hugely

Lots of local history (and some history in general). Who knew there was a Nazi school in the UK before WW2? I see there film is availalbe on Netflix or Amazon, I will endevour to watch it. The volunteers were enthusiastic.

Wonderfully passionate volunteers
Jun 2021 • Family
Fabulous way to spend a few hours. The exhibits are well described and the quizzes kept the kids engaged. The best thing was the passion of the volunteers and the wonderful description behind the exhibits. Great to see a Lowry so close - a real unexpected bonus. The model of Bexhill was wonderful - well done all involved
