Great location for watching the rugby!
Oct 2019
Great location for watching the rugby! Some charity collections locally, but loads of screens in this place for rugby world cup, and has been free food included. great range of drinks, and good local atmosphere

Club Classic evening
Apr 2019 • Friends
Had an excellent time at their club classis evening.
Excellent range of music and plenty of space to dance.
Beer prices as you would expect.
Staff friendly.
They have this social evening the first Friday in the month - would recommend!

Staff are unwelcoming and rude.

Wouldn't bother coming here. It wasn't very welcoming to my family and myself. Shame as I had heard good reviews. But personally, I wasn't impressed.

Love this place
Nov 2017 • Couples
Friendly, welcoming, and not silly prices for beer. The carvery is delicious and you can get a pint and roast dinner for a tenner and still have change.
Shows all sport you can imagine, live bands and family days are all ways happening. All in all a proper British local boozer.

Best Fun in Braintree
Nov 2017 • Friends
Love this place, great atmosphere, have such a great laugh. Immaculately clean in all areas, landlord and landlady are so friendly and also good fun. Staff are fab, Sunday carvery delicious. Would recommend this place to anyone. I have also visited Jardins which is also fabulous and would have any function here as they cater for any occasion. PLEASE anyone reading the bad reviews its lies.

Great atmosphere!
Oct 2017
Great pub! We went to see a band performing in the Kavern section of the pub. Great atmosphere! Clean and bright, loved the mirrors, great atmosphere. Drinks and crisps were fine. Toilets clean, excellent. It was all really nice. I don't understand some of the reviews on here, which made it sound awful. Definitely was all great yesterday!

A good old traditional pub
Jul 2017 • Friends
If you want a fancy gastro pub with poor food and beer at inflated prices then this is not for you. It's a good old traditional pub where you can have a good laugh. The early review about the flag i can't understand as there has not been a flag flying for some time. The beers and lagers are well priced and the guiness is exceptional at a reasonable £3.50 A pint. There is plenty of live music at weekends and in the adjacent Jardine.
They now have a cellar type function room with live bands on and the Beatles may have started in the cavern in Liverpool but the Braintree cavern is exceptional and definitely unique in my view and worth a visit , great sound and great atmosphere when the band or dj is rocking .
The service is what you expect of a licensed premise whose landlord is very experienced with years of running pubs nationwide.
Yes it does not do daily food but do not let that hold you back from its excellent sunday carvery with its perfectly cooked meats and freshly cooked vegetables and of course Yorkshire pudding. If you still have room then there is always a dessert which is a limited choice but the size of the dish will leave you fulfilled. The chef takes pride in his freshly cooked food and i can see why it was delicious and definitely the best around in braintree and reasonable cost of £7.99 .
I do pop in this establishment when i can and will keep on doing so , service is good music is good , food is excellent and what more do you want from a pub. Oh did i forget if you're a sports fan well it's the place for you all live sports shown on numerous tv screens and 2 projector screens. The landlord and his staff are very friendly and will accommodate everybody so if clash of sports they will put show on different screens so everyone is happy .
I will be back and i suggest u try it whether music night, football match to watch or satisfying those hunger pains with the Sunday carvery .

When you see this pub - just keep driving, if walking start to run.......

I'm happy to give any venue the benefit of the doubt but when I went in to tell the publican that he was flying the UK flag upside down if was clear he didn't give a toss.

The beer I had was OK - glass was clean enough (see other reviews) but I would not have gone if I did not have a reason.

The fact that the first review of this venue and the connected gym Jardins are both fakes written by the staff/owners shows that this is a poor venue and best avoided.

KEEP WELL CLEAR
Sep 2016 • Couples
My wife and I visited this establishment one saturday night back in september, to start with the bar maid (who was very pleasant) had a problem to find a clean glass, after the fourth attempt of trying to find a clean glass we final got our drinks and sat down at a table by what looked like a carvery, from where we were sitting we could see straight into the kitchen area and through into what we assumed was a function room we food was being taken to from the kitchen, we noticed that there was a huge hole in the ceiling of the kitchen area and the floor was very dirty. We decided to move seats as the view wasnt very pleasant at all.

The landlord was a loud obnoxious man who swore at people a lot and thought it was funny doing so, because of this we decided that we would leave and never return.

Overall experience:
The place was very dirty, stank of dog piss (inside and outside) and NOT the sort of place that I would recommend to anyone, in fact I would strongly advise people to stay well away from this place and it's function room.
