- Hirah HUnited Kingdom2 contributions19th birthday family dayWent with my 11 year old brother for my 19th birthday and it was awesome to get some bonding time. Loved seeing all the tropical fish, especially starfish, sea horses, sea spiders (scary), and also penguins! Also recognising the different fish from finding Nemo & dory was a good laugh. Was great being able to *walk through* the glass with fish all around us, was really awesome, and provided a unique experience that I haven't ever seen before having only seen fish in tanks (and not swimming AROUND me) I would also say that there was also a dinosaur showing exhibit, which was cool, there were moving dinosaurs but I feel like that was more for the younger kids, I personally didn't really find it as enjoyable as the rest but a nice addition. It was difficult to get around at some bit though, as the paths were quite narrow, and combined with wheel chair users and buggies, it made getting around more difficult. The staff were so, EXTREMELY nice, especially Chloe, and poppy, whom I'm glad shared their names :) So in conclusion, I would definitely recommend going here, not only with the younger kids, but even with older teens / young adults as it really does feel *special* being that close to the sea life and other animals. You also may learn a thing or two, and get some nice bonding-time memories.Hi there! Wow thank you so much for the thoughtful and detailed review! We are so glad to hear you enjoyed a special day with your brother and made some lovely memories together. The staff were really friendly and helpful and we had such a lovely time. Great that we could come and go as it was busy so we came back again later and managed to see things we'd missed.Hi there! - Hannah J3 contributionsBrilliant first visitWe had a great visit here today. The whole place was bright, clean and had a friendly feel. We joined a dinosaur talk and Aled (I believe that was their name) was brilliant and informative! They are a credit to the business and clearly very passionate. The food was reasonably priced and there was a lot more to do than we initially believed. Very impressed!Hi there! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review. - David HGrays Thurrock, United Kingdom101 contributions1st time visitTook our daughter and 2 year old grandson to the Sealife Centre yesterday. 1st time and wasnt too sure what to expect going by some recent reviews. However pleasantly surprised. Ok its not the London Aquarium but was fine for our needs and our grandson loved it. One recent reviewer said they got round in "5 mins" which i find puzzling and can only imagine they ran round !!?? (poor kids!) It took us appx 45 - 50 mins at a 2 year olds pace. All fish tanks were interesting and the viewing windows allowed our grandson to view easily. The walk through tube was great with the sharks & rays. He loves dinosaurs so that part was good for him. The meercats, monkeys, penguins etc were fine. All in all, an easy hour or so and probably great for the younger ones.Thank you so much for your honest review! - RyanNewport, United Kingdom296 contributionsGreat AttractionA great place to spend some time whilst in the area. Lots of tanks with a variety of marine life, plus penguins, otters, monkeys, meercats and mongooses. We went around in about a hour, including a short time watching penguin feeding time. Admission for adults is around £16.00 but this does allow you free entry for the whole day, providing you keep your wristband on.Thank you Ryan for the great review! We’d definitely recommend our Annual Pass which is only £2 more and will get you unlimited visits for 12 months! This pass also gets you 20% discount at Stockvale catering outlets and the gift shop. - EmilySouthend-on-Sea, United Kingdom74 contributionsAverage compared to othersLiving in Southend I have only ever been to this sea life but since I have been to another in great Yarmouth and you can tell the difference. I have an annual pass because it’s a quick easy attraction. There’s no thought put into this sea life it’s just as if animals have been placed in here and that’s it. There’s so many staff around tills but barely any around. I do come here every other month but it would be nice to see a change like and make it more interesting rather then animals on display add themes for each section make it exciting. Adding on the dinosaur section is fab!Thank you for your honest review, we have passed on your feedback to the management team :)Written 16 July 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 14 July 2024

- barbara w1 contributionRecent visit to Sealifehi, visited with son, daughter-in-law and 20 month grandson. Could have been a 5 star but found that the glass and perspex on the tanks looked dirty and needed a really good clean especially the tunnel which looked like you was looking through a mist, the fish were really hard to see and spoilt the experience. The dinosaurs could also have been a good feature but we all found that area extremely dark and hard to see, I think had there been more lighting the effect would be better and more entertaining for young childrenThank you for your honest feedback, we will make sure to pass this onto managementWritten 5 September 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 August 2024

We signed up to unlimited access for a year for £18 each, which I thought was quite cheap. There is lots to see, aquarium, monkeys, meerkats, butterflies and penguins as well as a dinosaur area. We listened to a couple of the talks / animal feeding sessions which were given by Jayden, who was really informative and good with the crowd. Good for an hour or two of fun on a rainy day.Hi Hayley! - Emma GNorthampton, United Kingdom83 contributionsWorth for toddler but not for older as can easily be bored.Car park pricey however there are plenty of car park near or far away. Near the beach. Brought annual year due to £2 different and we may come back in the summer. Cafe, toilet is unisex so be warn. Entrance I felt lack of something but didn't want to spoil for little girl. However one staff was a little not inviting very well and a little rude. Upon entry to sealife was approach by empty enclosed. Disappoint. Then enter in room. While walking around some was interest but it very quick round. Not alot to admire in fish tanks. Question with 4 different answer around the room. When we got to the end we came up with open space of outdoor picnic and cafe shop(closed) toilet facilities and rescue monkey display outdoor and indoor for them. Upon entry to dinosaurs, good models and action, however I didn't see nor realise how loud they were... My daughter had a bad reaction and didn't enjoy it compared to other dinosaurs world we been to. The other problem was if people don't like the dinosaur they won't be able to see butterfly as it is one way direction. When we got round we came out and back in to the picnic area again then we follow back into the penguin side and into the dark room of fishes. Again my daughter had a reaction and didn't like going in this area as it was far too dark to her and picture like krank/mermaid area petrified her. Overall I found a little disappointed and last about 1 hrs or 2.Hi there, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, I will pass your feedback onto management. I am an annual pass holder of the Sealife Adventure and my grandchildren love it. The annual pass makes is very good value for money, I think it is a bit expensive when paying just for one visit. The new dinosaur and Butterfly attraction is good and the children love it.
The main reason for my review, however, is the lack of hand sanitiser at the entrance and in the cafe. There is plenty as you walk round the aquarium etc, but there wasn't any on entering or as I said round the cafe, or as you leave the toilets.
I always have my own on me, but some people need to be encouraged at using it. At the entrance there is a security man taking track and trace details, giving people his pen, which is getting passed along loads of people and then when you get to the pay point there is no hand gel. Also, there should be some outside the toilet door, after you've washed your hands ,as you then touch the door handles to go out and they are by the cafe, where you will then be eating. There should also be some at the tills to use after payment.
You can't be careful enough with sanitising your hands after touching so many touch points that transmit the germs.

Myself and 2 daughters aged 19 & 12 visited on 26/08/20. we booked on line and only had about a 10 minute wait before being able to go in, the young lady at the door apologised for us waiting so long ( we didnt think the wait was long) and she chatted to my daughters as if she had known them for years. Once inside the staff were VERY understanding of my 19 year olds hidden disabilities and offered us a guide, which we declined. We stopped to rest at the monkey enclosure and removed our masks for a short while before going into the dinosaur exhibition. My 12 year old loved digging for fossils but didnt like the fact she had to use her hands to move the sand ( maybe some brushes attached to the wall could help). The butterfly enclosure was excellent as was the staff member who came over to see if i was alright when i sat having an anxiety attack. The gift shop although small was well stocked and not over priced but we were surprised to not see much in way of conservation information on sale ( ie how by recycling at home saves waste polluting the oceans type books) Both of my daughters enjoyed seeing the animals and I was extremely impressed by the staff, not only with their knowledge of the animals but also the way they enthused their knowledge to those around them. We will certainly be paying a visit next year and recommending others to visit also.

We had a lovely time. It is well laid out with the one way system and lots of sanitizers. Loved looking at the animals and enjoyed the dinosaur/butterfly house with the monkeys and meerkats and there was a few Halloween bits to do. Staff were all very friendly. We spent about 2 hours there - adults need to wear their masks inside.
It would of been a 5 star but I really dont get the buy your ticket and line up. They state that no one lines up longer then 30 minutes but throughout the day there was a huge queue around the building as we passed it 2 times. You dont have a set time when you have to get there like most other venues but It causes so many people although lined up to congregate, there was no social distance in the line either. We got there around 10.30 and lined up for 30 minutes so be aware you will have to queue up outside for a while.
Other then that I felt it was a lovely day out the kiosk was open, we got a free childs meal though we forgot and left so I cant comment on the restaurant.

Visited at the start of June 2021.
Covid precautions are really just a paper exercise. Signs up, one way systems etc. Yet a large majority of the (young) staff do not wear masks. Many that "do" wear them with noses hanging out on on their chins! One member who would probably be great outside of a pandemic, is over familiar with the children, and leaning in for "cuddles" and high 5s when handing out stickers (everything that we're supposed to be avoiding at this time.
The aquarium itself is enjoyable for an hour or so - slightly overpriced, but no more than moat of these types of venues.
The animals themselves seem well cared for, though the venue is a tad tatty and I'd have thought that with so much time that they've not been visited, some basic painting, touch ups and aesthetics could have been managed.
Don't visit in the morning. The queues, come rain or shine, were around the block.
The food in the attached cafe, though typically "seaside fare", included a drink in the price.

Amazing experience, we love the way they have changed it with the new dinosaur and butterfly areas really enhancing the day out. Having an annual ticket means we can pop down any time with any of our 9 grandkids, and can't believe that an annual season ticket is only £15 each, (was a bargain even at the old full price). The younger grankids love the dinosaurs as they all learn about them at school. As adults we find it interesting and keep meaning to go down without kids so more time to read the information boards.

There were great things for the kids to see and they really enjoyed their visit. However, I found staff were quite anal about things. The food was well below average..we went to the hot dog van outside...poor quality and extremely overpriced. The staff member said they ran out of ketchup sachets and said we are not allowed to use the bottled ketchup they had for hot dogs for our chips. When you pay £24 for chips and cheap hot dogs you should be allowed some ketchup! There was also inappropriate music being played really loud at the food van...it wasn't family friendly at all. No thought whatsoever with that. The toilets were portaloos. It was near impossible to get in there with my child to help them use the toilet with privacy. Wrist bands HAD to be on the left arm! As they were letting people in without prior booking, there was absolutely no way of being socially distant. It needs a clean up, lick of paint, better toilet facilities, extra training to staff and better quality food. Great things to see for kids though. I guess for £10 a ticket you get what you pay for.

I have to say the wildlife part of the centre is very good. Lots of fish who seem well looked after, variety of other animals, meerkats, monkeys, tortoises, turtles, butterfly enclosure, penguins. Staff are knowledgeable when asked about the animals. Daughter loves the place. Review should’ve got more than 3 stars. However, the day out was ruined, and not for the first time, by the diabolical service in the restaurant bit. Girl who took our order (2 half pounder meals and some chicken fillets), didn’t even ask if we wanted sauce or salad in the burgera, I had to make a point of telling her that we didn’t want tomatoes or cheese in 1 of the burgers. The order was then taken to the wrong table and we had to talk to the table it’d been given to which they obviously happily handed over when they realised it was wrong, brilliant bit of infection control under the current circumstances. When we opened the burgers we quickly realised that our request to have one without tomatoes or cheese had been ignored and was sent back. We asked for lots of mayo as you can’t take it yourself under current circumstances, they brought us 2 packets. We asked for salt, they brought us none. On requesting more mayo and some salt for a second time they still brought half the amount of mayo we’d asked for and then brought us about 20 packets of salt. On a third request for more mayo we then got what we needed. And this is not the first time we’ve had this sort of experience in their restaurant, hence the review which honestly, I very rarely bother with. They need their staff to pay more attention to their customers needs it’s really poor. Don’t let it stop you visiting the centre because the animal enclosures really are very good, but I would highly suggest bringing your own food or going somewhere else to eat. It’s not exactly cheap either.

no staff members were wearing masks or visors. There were sanitiser stations but that isn’t good enough at the moment.
protective screens are not enough when staff members are walking around the place not wearing protection. also- its free for under 90cms instead of age? my daughter is not even 2.5 years old yet but she is tall (not her fault she has the ta
gene) she literally just about sat on the 90cm mark and i got charged a child ticket. that’s pathetic and all in all it wasn’t worth the money.

Good afternoon,
Firstly, I would like to apologise for any disappointment you experienced during your visit. We have worked extremely hard to ensure that our visitors can be safe during their visit, and we have had great responses to this. As per government guidelines, it is at the discretion of our staff members whether they choose to wear masks or not, and we make these options available to all staff members.
I would also like to apologise if you felt that our admissions policy is unfair. Our child entrance policy is based on height as we found that it was difficult to establish the age of each child, and this did lead to many older children entering the aquarium without paying. In any situation where there is a dispute over the height of a child, we are always happy to re-measure if requested. I can only apologise if you feel that the policy is unfair.
Once again, thank you for your comments.
Kind regards,
Oscar

Myself, my husband and 5 month old daughter visited the sea life adventures in southend on sea yesterday and we had a lovely time. My husband and I learned loads of facts and seeing all the interesting different species that occupy our oceans was an eye opener as some are so alien looking. The meerkats and additional animals were great to see as the centre expands. Our 5 month old daughter was interested and perplexed with all that surrounded her. Buy tickets online to save money. Or buy an annual pass if you are local. Worth it for young families. One star had to be knocked off because of the poor quality of food from the cafe. The chicken burger was half the size of the bun, it was hard, probably from the day before. You can't eat your own food there either so my advice would be definitely go see the sea life centre, it will take a couple hours if you listen to a few talks too. Then go to one of the many other cafes in southend for food.

Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and it’s excellent to hear you had a lovely time. I am glad to hear that you learnt a lot about species both native to the UK and ones that are not - either through our talks and feeds or our signs as we do our best to keep all of these interesting and informative.
In regards to your comments about our café, I can only apologise if you felt in any way disappointed with the quality of our food. We do our best to uphold very high standards within our café and it is a shame to hear you do not feel this was the case. From the outside, the Sealife adventure looks quite small & so we weren’t expecting much. However when you go in, it’s actually much bigger & has some great exhibits. The staff were extremely friendly & helpful when we first entered & even told us as we were going round which animals were having feedings soon so we didn’t miss our. Our 2 year old son absolutely loved it & had a wonderful time, especially as we got to see the crocodile being fed & there’s an extra little exhibit with animatronic dinosaurs which is fantastic for younger kids. It was a great day out for all of us, even the adults in our party thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I would definitely recommend this to any families visiting Southend if you fancy getting away from the business of the beach & seafront to see some awesome animals & fish.

Are sea life centre and sea life adventure the same as I have vouchers for sea life centre and I always thought that’s what it was in Southend.
Thanks

It would depend if you vouchers are for the see life in London you will be able to use them in that location only i would suppose and not in Southend. But to be sure you can always give their customers service a call to clarify.
