- Jill CHitchin, United Kingdom7 contributionsNo older kids seenWe went on a recce today. Still worried that there no older children only babies and toddlers. We have booked to take our grandkids there and apart from the play area everything else, even the shop seemed designed for toddlers.Dear Jill, thank you for your feedback and we are sorry to hear that you thought there wasn’t much for older children. We have recently upgraded our playground to add more areas for older children and it is something we are continuing to look at in further improvements to the farm. We are also currently programming more events for older ones including our Miniature Garden Workshop, Creepy Critters Show and Space Dome. Not many animals to see, no tractor rides, no contact with animals. No meeting the pony as it is on bed rest! Generally looking very run down and wouldn't recommend as a day out. - SJH42Ware, United Kingdom227 contributionsGreat day out. We've not been for a few years, and I had read the reviews with trepidation. However I hadn't needed to worry. Yes there are definitely fewer animals than there used to be, but they seem very well cared for and not at all stressed. The play park is lovely, the woodland walk is magical and my 8 and 4 year old both had a wonderful time. Good value for money and I would recommend. All I would say is it needs to be given a chance, the signage isn't great and it took some exploring to find where we were going. Once we got the lay of the land sorted in our heads we were very impressed.Visited August 2023Written 23 August 2023
- Mobile170919035371 contributionSo disappointedIn cafe, only choice of cake was raspberry and lemon cake or smartie cookies. The world garden section was unkempt with stinging nettles growing around and in a childrens sit on feature which. There really was a very limited number of animals to see. The children's park area was ok - however definately not worth the entrance fee. The park at Fairlands, Stevenage has more apparatus and is free. It was so much better 20 years ago at Standalone Farm.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 13 September 2023

Generally, very disappointing and very poor value for money.
The Standalone garden was totally unkept and full of weeds.

Very over priced for what is there, animals do not look like they are cared for. Working farm or not you expect to see the animals in a nice groomed condition which NONE we're.
A lot of animals advertised that weren't anywhere to be seen.
The most animals they had were sheep.
Wouldn't recommend for anyone over the age of 5. You can walk around the whole farm in about 10 minutes.
Also wouldn't recommend wasting extra money on "feed" as the animals are not interested and their idea of "feeding the animals" is a tube going through 2 fences which just drops of the floor.
Also the small animals area has 1 guinea pig and 1 rabbit. Also in very poor condition.
Overall we didn't not have a good experience both my children 5 & 7 found it very boring.
Would NOT recommend.

Dear Siobhan, thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your recent visit.
We pride ourselves on our animal welfare and a lot of the provisions we put in place are to make sure our animals are not stressed. This is one of the reasons we limit direct contact with our animals and have created the feeding shoots. All of our animal interactions are supervised by our farm team to make sure our animals and little ones are safe. We run pony grooming sessions, lamb feeding, donkey demonstrations and pig feeding- more information can be found on our what’s on page.
We have also been awarded an Animal Welfare Licence for the care of our animals. A lot of our oldest animals have been rehomed to Standalone from other places and they have arrived with ongoing health problems. Posy our pony is our oldest resident. She is losing her sight and is regularly attended by the vets but loves hearing visitors at her stables. In the evenings all of the horses are let out into our fields for a wander and we love to enrich our animal’s lives with activities, climbing frames and animal friendly ice lollies on hot days.
We are currently in the process of improving our animal areas and introducing more farmyard friends to Standalone. At the moment our birds, turkeys and chickens, have been temporarily rehomed due to the threat of bird flu and we hope to have them back at Standalone soon.

Not as good as it use to be.
Really disappointed on our recent trip. It's not cheap and certainly not value for money.
We had a family trip with 9 year old , 5 year old and 2 babies.
Firstly the new car park. What a challenge. The surface is grid like and almost impossible to push a buggy on. There's a path along one side of the car park but couldn't get to it as cars parked against it and there's a fence between the path and car park. Ridiculous. Our poor babies were shaken to death trying to navigate the terrain.
There are lots of empty neglected pens where fowl use to be. "Ooh what's in here? Oh nothing!"
Some old plastic ride on tractors.
Many empty sheds.
Saw cows and pigs in the sheds. Highlight, the boys got to feed the lambs.
Literally half an hour to get a coffee.

Dear Shelly, thank you for your feedback and we are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your recent visit. We have recently started making a number of improvements to Standalone. We started by extending our playground to include more activities for little ones, we’ve moved our snack stop so that parents can get coffees and ice creams without leaving the play area, added a sand pit, a buggy park, a woodland trail and most recently upgraded our car park.
We are sincerely sorry if the drive into the farm was bumpy and uncomfortable. We went with a more eco-friendly design and the grass should eventually grow through the grates so that the terrain is less rough.
We are sorry that you felt that there were few animals to see too. The next steps in our planned improvements are to look at our animal areas and to introduce some new farmyard friends to Standalone. The chickens, turkeys and other birds have had to be temporarily rehomed whilst we wait for the threat of bird flu lessen.
We are glad you enjoyed the lamb feeding. We hold other daily activities too like tractor rides, pony grooming and pig feeding (details can be found on our what’s on page).
Thanks for your feedback and we hope that you return soon.

I visited with my 3 year old for some time together and from start to finish our visit was awful. We hardly saw any animals, the plants in the gardens were pretty much dead, there was no food despite having menus out for people to look at. Sandwiches in the fridge were few and far between, the kids sandwiches were stale and the adults sandwiches were soggy. We used to visit a lot before the car park was renovated and I feel that the money should have been spent fixing up the farm. I won’t be returning again.

Dear Gill,
Thank for your feedback and sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your visit.
The welfare of our animals and the safety of our visitors are a top priority. Recently, there have been a number of changes to animal welfare licensing, and we have to comply with the conditions of our animal welfare license and industry guidance. This has meant stricter guidelines on unsupervised interaction with farm animals and extra fencing.
As a small working farm our animals can carry lots of diseases, so we make sure that any animal interactions are carried out safely, but we appreciate that this currently means less of an up close experience for little ones. A number of the pens in the courtyard are currently empty due to the threat of Bird Flu as we have had to rehome our chickens, turkeys and pheasants. We have an animal engagement strategy which will look at improving animal interaction at Standalone in the coming years and in the meantime we are trying to give customers the experience of a real working farm through supervised interactions such as the pony grooming, pig feeding, lamb feeding and donkey demonstrations.
We were short staffed in our café in March and so had to serve a reduced menu. Ordinarily we have a hot food menu and fresh sandwiches, so we apologise for your experience and hope you will visit again in the future.
Kind regards,
Standalone Farm

Hi. Sorry a bit late in responding. I see someone has already replied. I actually thought there were Lamas? urr Alpacas? There is also a pony you can pet and brush its hair whilst it has its dinner. It depends on what time of year you go as to what else you can pet.x
