Tripadvisorβs approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We parked in the tennyson down national trust car park (for free) before starting out hike we had planned for the day.
We went from the car park through a lovely country path to freshwater, then onto a coastal path to the monument.
It is quite an incline from freshwater to the monument, but there is a bench about halfway and again at the monument to stop, and it is perfect for admiring the stunning views.

We parked at Alum Chine, if you are a NT member show your card to get a Β£2.00 reduction in the parking change. The walk is lovely, fabulous views of both sides of the island, in July lots of wild flowers on the walk to the Needles and over the downs. It's a walk we have done many times, usually start off at about 10.00am, coffee and homemade cake at NT needles cafe, picnic lunch at the monument and aim to be at Freshwater about 1.00 then get the 2.00pm bus back to Alum, number 12, not that many during the day, if you miss the 2.00 it's a wait till 4.20. But it's a wonderful walk whatever.

This is a good walk. We started from Freshwater Bay. There is an ascent, but it's generally gradual and the terrain is good underfoot.
Superb views as you go along (it was a good day in terms of weather). However best to take a rain coat as the Downs are exposed and the weather can change quickly.
Parking available in Freshwater Bay, although the public car park was expensive.

One of my most favourite walks on the island! You just canβt fault it. Itβs a steep walk to the monument but the views are incredible! Being able to see the western tip of the island is an experience in itself and you can really see why the island is known as βthe diamond isleβ. Itβs a route Iβve walked many times and Iβm sure it wonβt be the last!

A beautiful walk from Freshwater bay to the Needles Battery (National trust)past Tennyson Down. The walk is mainly uphill the the incline is not excessive, the route goes along the cliff past grazing cattle.
A Tennyson Down the view is stunning, views one side of the English Channel and in the other of the Solent and across the isle. The view over Yarmouth harbour is lovely.
There are a couple of benches to sit on along the route (plenty of benches at Tennyson Down) or plenty of grass!
I would suggest bringing water as between points there is no where to get a drink.

Beautiful views of West Wight all around you, mostly easy walking except for slopes up to the monument where there are seats. Well worth the walk.

A beautiful walk from Freshwater Bay viewing both sides of the Island's Western shores (North and South). Great view across to the mainland and Hurst Castle. Also across to Old Harry Rocks.

a lovely walk to see the needles from freshwater bay, took a couple of hours as not hurrying, worth walking by the sea cliffs rather than taking the central path, as you get to see so much more

Hi, how long does it take from Freshwater Bay to Tennyson's Monument? Thanks.

Hi
It all depends how fit you are, it is 1.5 miles from Freshwater bay to Tennyson`s monument and rises 400 feet, after leaving Freshwater bay there is a very steep initial rise but it is a short rise, after that it is just a steady rise to the Monument and the views are stunning, for an average person I would suggest allow 45 minutes
