Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This mill is open at times but opening hours are limited and not when we visited. Nonetheless it is worth a visit. There are 2 mill races and 3 grind stones visible. It is quite hard to find though being sited within a housing estate - or more correctly housing having been allowed to impinge right upon it. I believe there is significant information available when the mill is open.

The gunpowder mills at Faversham are located in amongst a housing estate. The houses surrounding the mill were built in the 60’s. You can still see the remnants of the working mill where they ground down the ingredients for making Gunpowder. The mills are one of the oldest in the world and only ceased production in the 30’s when the threat of war was on the horizon. Try and visit the mills when they are open to the public. Inside is a working scale model of the mill. Outside you can still see where the water wheel was fitted that powered the machinery. It is free to enter and relies entirely on donations and is run by volunteers. You need to go inside and talk to one of the guides to fully appreciate the site and the part it played in Britain’s industrial revolution besides warfare use. A good afternoon visit.

Important industrial heritag,e with one shed and one waterwheel remaining of the original row that made up the Gunpowder Mills, now stranded among a 1960s housing estate. Lots of information on the walls, but I think best appreciated with a knowledgeable guide there to bring things to life.

Really interesting visit.... Rod showed us around and he was very friendly and informative. We had been to the Fleur de lis the day before and found visiting the two gave us a great appreciation of times gone by and how much the volunteers of the Faversham Society do to keep history alive
Thankyou

I've lived around Faversham for quite a while but never bothered to visit the Gunpowder Mills. There are a few walk options and plenty of information and points of interest.

This is a lovely place to have a walk for free!
Not big but enough to spend a few hours with young children. There are signs everywhere directing you on various walks and telling you about the gunpowder works and it's history.
Been in Faversham for more than 15 years and only just discovered this gem of a place.
I would have given it 5 stars if the visitors centre was open on this particular Sunday for us to have s nice cup of tea!

The surrounding housing estate is simply dreadful. Dull. I'm sorry if you live there. There is no soul to these very British House-Groups. My own personal carbuncles.
Chart Gunpowder Mills (when you can find it), is very compact and quite exquisite. The staff are only too happy to explain it all, so do check on opening times. They're pretty eccentric there.
Worth spending twenty minutes, then go to The Shipwrights Arms over a mile away, on the marshes. A great compensation for living hereabouts, in my silly opinion.
