- Sasha Marie2,021 contributionsLovely walkGreat country park along the river. This walk goes for miles if you follow it and is really enjoyable with the dog. Parking is plentiful and there is a cafe here so you can get a coffee and a snack. Be careful when near the water when the tide is out as there is glass in amongst the mud.Visited February 2024Travelled soloWritten 6 July 2024
- Trudy J16 contributionsBeautiful placeBeautiful and well maintained area. Visited in the summer and it was full of long tailed tits, whimbrel and redshanks. Full of lovely fruit trees and even though it’s managed they have still allowed it to ReWild and grow in certain areas attracting all sorts of wildlife.Visited August 2024Travelled soloWritten 20 August 2024
- Ahmet OzerekRainham, United Kingdom59 contributionsRiverside Country Park, Lower Rainham Road,Gillingham, Rainham, KentRiverside Country Park, Lower Rainham Road,Gillingham, Rainham, Kent This area is one of the few places left, where residents and visitors alike can enjoy the nature’s offerings, walk or ride a bike. You are also able to exercise you dogs in this area. There is a reasonable size car park at the main entrance as well as a children's play area and a cafe. There are a few other smaller car parks on either side of the main entrance. Parking is free at present but there will be a £2.50 parking charge from 2nd September 2024. The walkway stretches for a few miles in both directions and is suitable for wheelchair and mobility vehicles by and large. The route is lined with wild bushes but also intermittent blackberry bushes, apple, pear and damson trees. This oasis provides a sanctuary for the wildlife but also for locals to exercise and de stress alone or with their families. It is hoped that the new charges do not prove to be too costly and prohibitive.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 September 2024

Good parking and toilet facilities. Play area for the kids with plenty of pick-nick table seating. There is a small canteen area however this is where the experience fell short of expectations. Service was very slow despite only handful of customers during our 20 minute wait for a sausage bap. We ordered two teas which, whilst I could have over looked the wait for the food, they made with milk in (no questions as to how we liked it, so if you could not have milk for dietary reasons then tough) and was garnished with the floating tea bag inside. It was grim, please teach these lads how to make a proper cuppa. Also I am sure there is a healthier way to make a bacon bap that does not include deep frying it. In future take your own food and if you want a hot drink go for a coffee or chocolate as that comes out of a machine.

We have walked our 2 dogs and played with our grandchildren in this park and riverside area for well over 20 years and had lots of fun and great times.
But on Monday 2nd Sept 2024 it's all changing at Riverside.
Our council has decided to start charging a parking fee to visit this lovely area.
Yes, it's true. If you want a nice walk, want to walk your dog, fancy a coffee and a cake, or play with your kids in the playpark, you have to pay.
With the current emphasis on people getting out and walking and exercising in the great British countryside to not only help with their general health but also mental health, it seems that in Medway this comes with a cost.
Shame on you Medway Council

On arrival there were plenty of parking spaces, free for the whole day if you want to stay that long. On wandering around there were more small parking areas too. Paths were clearly marked and a visit to the visitors centre gave us good information.
There were lots of dog walkers so clearly a popular spot for locals.
The cafe offered sandwiches and hot and cold drinks.
The toilets were clean.
If I the area again we would definitely visit.

I came here with my grandparents for a lovely, pleasant walk. We spotted lots of birds and it was nice to see so much nature. We enjoyed sitting on a bench looking out. We were going to go to the cafe but thought it too busy.

Free parking a bonus. Cafe small but very efficient and plenty of outdoor picnic tables and seating. Large and safe children’s play area. Well marked paths along waterfront with explanatory signage. Displays and information boards inside with an education room.

Had an excellent visit to our local countryside park on our doorstep. The children’s okay area was great with added gongs for older children to use. Security in the play area was great.
The beverage area was good and prices very reasonable.
Used the information desk and saw many interesting things for folk of all ages.
The grandchildren and my wife went for a stroll along the riverfront taking in so many natural things. The landscape is ever changing.

Further to my good review of Riverside Country Park I have had it brought to my attention that the staff in the cafe are not baby friendly. A young mother was appalled to have to pay 80p to have a jug of hot water to heat her baby's bottle. As she was limited to money she could not pay this and her baby had to have it's bottle cold and this had an adverse affect on the child. Sorry Riverside. The surrounding area and play park is fine but your CAFE STAFF ARE MONEY GRASPING VULTURES.

Took our fox terrier to the Riverside Country Park, being a complete div she decided to flush out and attack the snakes which are quite numerous, can`t go back there as she may be bitten next time, I think there is a real problem with snakes there, otherwise it is a place of real relaxation.

You can certainly cycle along Riverside Country Park. There are the usual gate barriers where you have to get off and push, but certainly you can cycle from Motney Hill to Sharps Green. There is a further section of path that heads to The Strand, but I wouldn't recommend cycling west of Sharps Green along the seawall.
