Having passed Reculver Towers on the train many times, I'd always wanted to get closer to these imposing landmarks on the coast of Kent. The drive out from Canterbury was challenging with some narrow lanes and quite a bit of traffic - but once we arrived we found a generously sized and very reasonably priced carpark on the sea front.... if you ignore the surrounding caravan sites ( don't be put off!) this is a great place to visit- right on the sea, with surviving walls of the 4th century Roman Saxon Shore fort and the iconic towers of a mediaeval Chuch built on the site of a Saxon monastery. Go topwards dusk- the sunsets are magnificent.

Took my grandchilren here - apart from the towers and roman fort the beach is great for crabbing etc., also you can ride bikes along to Minnis Bay and further if you have the energy. At Minnis there is a nice cafe/pub, plus a childrens playground and more great rock pooling.

Reculver Towers is a good description of what you can expect to see, you need to use a little more of your imagination when it comes to the Roman Fort. It is an excellent area for dog walking or just to grab some see air, there is a nice little pub if you want a meal, there is also a... More

The Reculver Towers have always fascinated me since seeing them in the "Dam Busters" film. Finally, after fifty years, I get to see them up close and find that when the rest of the church was pulled down in the early 19th century, the towers were bought by Trinity House and are maintained as a navigational mark to this day.... These ancient ruins are always fascinating to visit. Lately, the installation of a children's play area has increased it's popularity with families, but there is one piece of history that tends to be forgotten. There is nowadays, a lot of historically controversial opinions about the Dambuster raid, carried out by 617 squadron against three German dams. What there can be... More

Recover Towers is a charming place to visit, and a great place to sit and have a picnic especially on a Sunny day, the towers have a plaque and there are a few signs around the area that tell you about the History of the Towers and the area, it's also a lovely walk along the Promenade

Magical ruins. Historically important. Gateway to a flat walk or bike ride to Birchington taking in migration marshlands with coastal fresh air. Visit The Ethelbert Pub
