Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Interesting statue on the end of the harbour arm at Margate. We found it as this is where we finished our walk along a section of the Viking Coastal Trail between Minnis Bay and Margate on a midweek day. Some other reviewers have given a more in depth description of the statues story so won’t include it here. Our marking reflects our opinion of it as a ‘stand-alone’ tourist attraction.

This is a larger version of the statue at the Shell Grotto, but made out of metal rather than shells. Really nice location and beautiful, as well as being a fascinating construction. Definitely worth a trip to the end of the harbour wall to look at.

At the end of the harbour is the bronze statue of Mrs Booth the Shell lady. Apparently, she was Mr Turners landlady and lover after his wife died. She looks out across the harbour, wistfully perhaps keeping a lookout for Mr Turner.

We called her the shell lady until we visited and had a good look . This is Mrs Booth who was the infamous landlady who kept Mr Turner entertained when he was not painting. Excellent spot in the harbour arm and adds to the Margate story. Whilst in itself maybe not worth visiting with the gallery and Margate’s new attractions it really makes a great spot for a photo for instagram.

Whilst maybe not a must see, it is well worth strolling to the end of the Harbour Arm to look at this well sited statue completed by Ann Carrington. It depicts Mrs Booth, famously Turner’s landlady and subsequent lover (They lived together as Mr and Mrs Booth) in Margate. The statue is in the style of the shell souvenir figures that could and still can be bought at local gift shops. The site of house where they lived is now covered by the Turner Contemporary Gallery.

Margate's beloved shell lady was left wet and windy, and surrounded by puddles today.
A rainy day walk finished at the end of the Harbour, and she was not in all her glory!

Memories of seashell ladies I bought here as a child in the 1950's are revived in a BIG way with this delightful 12ft high bronze lady. Gorgeous and positioned by the lighthouse to welcome sailors.

It's a pretty scenery for taking pictures at the end of the harbour.... Don't expect to much, you can walk over the side wall and few steps downs there's a lovely micro pub.
Would recommend to go there when the tides up otherwise you could be bothered by the smell of the seaweed...

If you feel like walking on the harbour, might as well walk till the end of the harbour arm and find the shell lady. It's nice, but nothing that will take your breath away.
