Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited here whilst staying in the area late last year. Rather stumbled upon it whilst exploring the town. Seemed a bit quiet was unsure if it were even open at first. However no sooner had we reached the desk and we were greeted warmly. I’m not sure if it’s a regular occurrence but we were assisted almost the entire way round, by a chap with immense friendliness and enthusiasm for the place. Certainly a highlight.

Chock-a-block with Margate memorabilia. Roy became our own personal guide through the old cells and display rooms downstairs. Upstairs there was more to see in the old court house. The entrance fee of two quid was a bargain.

What a fantastic find! Best £2 you can spend in Margate. Horacio had some amazing knowledge and awfully wonderful jokes (true dad jokes) but is brimming with fantastic knowledge. We also had a fantastic chat with Roy who filled us in with all the Margate history and really engaging.
Really worth a visit and thank Roy and Horacio for spending so much time with us.

I visited Margate with the view of bring totally blown away by the Turner Contempory. Oh how dissapointed was I? The model of a young boy in his underpants with a chicken emerging from them. Mary Whitehoise would turn in her grave with the thought that such exhibits equate to youth! To say I was dissapointed would be an understatement. I then went into the old town and found a little gem. The old town hall/police station and magistrates court now a fantastic museum. The main exhibit was on the mods and rovkrtd riots of 1964. What a fantastic few hours I spent with the Chair of the Friends of the museum, who run it as volunteers for the local council. The information, entertainment and the personal guided tour cost me only one pound. Fabulous value, fantastic museum, I will go again. My thanks to the chairman of the friends, Ian and all his volunteers who have done an amazing job. Going back in December for their Christmas exhibit on Georgian Christmas 1827, that sounds good. Don't miss out on tnis little gem in old town Margate

Margate Museum is one of those hidden treasures that once discovered is never forgotten. An absolute tardis inside with a huge amount of information on the history and quirkiness of Margate. Photographs, models, interesting facts and fascinating insights all mean I would definitely go back for another visit and extremely cheap entry

So cheap to get in. The lady on the desk was really informative. We spent a good hour and a half looking round. Especially enjoyed the 'Mods and Rockers@ exhibition!

Having been disapointed by the Turner gallery we walked the streets of Margate for an alternative. Found the Margate Museum an Oasis in a very run down Town.
At £1.50 per person this was tremendous value & brought back memories of my childhood in Thanet. Only a small museum with restricted days of opening. Very friendly staff and some interesting photographs & paintings. The Mods & Rockers exhibition in the old Courtroom brought back a few memories from my later school years.

We had been to the Margate Museum a few years ago when they had the mods and rockers exhibition and had visitors and saw it was open. It was a charity day, pay what you want and we went in.
We started at the very beginning, it was quiet and a wonderful member of staff starting talking to us and really brought to life the “hotel murderer” that one of the areas is devoted to, she was patient and really engaging keeping us chatting for quite some time which was brilliant. We then moved upstairs and another member of staff followed us up as it was empty when we got up there.
This member of staff was exactly the same knowledgeable, friendly and really engaging, she showed us around but at a pace that worked for us jumping in and out as she sensed our interest. We spent a lot of time on the big cabinet they have in there and she opened it up told us the history and showed us around it – it was really enchanting.
You could walk in and out of the museum within about 20 minutes if you just skirted round, but having these two wonderful staff members meant we really spent quite a while in there and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. What amazing value and if, as I believe, these members of staff are volunteers, that is amazing to get that quality of knowledge and commitment – well done Margate Museum.

Meaningless question with regards to the Museum. Still, what do you expect from a Ramsgatonian?
