Overview
More
Turner Contemporary is a pioneering visual arts organisation using our namesake’s spirit of radical enquiry to activate art and people, in our galleries and beyond. Located in an elegant purpose-built gallery, designed by David Chipperfield Architects, the gallery looks out on the very views that JMW Turner immortalised in many of his key works. Turner Contemporary presents a rolling programme of temporary exhibitions, events and learning opportunities which make intriguing links between historic and contemporary art. The gallery offers a space for everyone to discover different ways of seeing, thinking and learning.

Margate is a sad town and, apart from the lovely beach, a truly depressing place to visit. There are countless decrepit shops and decaying buildings. In fact 'decay' really sums it up. All around you are once grand and elegant but decaying buildings with nailed-up...More

We popped in here having walked from Ramsgate. It was pretty quiet but the cafe was busy. Journey's with T S Eliot's 'Waste Land' was the exhibition theme but it was nice to come across favourites like Ed Hopper and Paula Rego also. And Turner....More

It is imaginative to show art which locals feel have with links T.S.Eliot's poem The Waste Land. In other words they are the curators. The exhibition was well presented and seemed to lend itself to the spaces in the gallery. The location of the gallery...More

First trip to Margate, and I walked from the station to the Turner Contemporary, past a classic resort seafront of amusement arcades (OK, tacky, but not run-down - busy and well-maintained) and a very impressive white-sand beach. It's amazing that the whole gallery, including the...More

We took my brother and family to visit one Saturday. They’re not as ‘arty’ as us but they all enjoyed The Wasteland exhibition which changes each time we visit. A great piece of architecture- well a well planned building.
