Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Absolutely disgusted by the ‘service’ we received today. My family has been going to this pub for years. Today we went in together with our young children for my sons 3rd birthday just for a drink and was instantly greeted by the ‘landlord’ who was clearly having a bad day with utter rudeness, foul language and shouting at us saying no kids running around yet we had only just walked into the pub brought a large round of drinks, took ourselves in the corner and our children weren’t even running around they were all standing with us! My children are taught to respect others and I would never allow them to be running around anyway! A quiet word in the corner with us would have been far more professional and respectful instead of shouting at us in front of everyone for absolutely nothing because ‘you had children in the night before’ May I add which WASN’T us! Totally disgusted and put a right downer on my little man’s birthday! Don’t advertise as a family friendly pub when you’re clearly not!

RUDE MANAGEMENT
ABSOLUTELY NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY
We popped in to our local for a quiet drink with the family, all together at one end of the pub, landlord shouting and screaming and SWEARING AT us AND the children. Disgusting behaviour. Should be ashamed of himself, unprovoked and uncalled for and completely outrageous!!!

Went in the other night I had words with the landlord who is a rude man.
As I was leaving I asked him why the toilets were covered in urine his answer was he hasn’t been there he has been upstairs.
He thinks that toilets don’t need to be inspected or cleaned through the day.
He simply told me that if I don’t like it don’t go back.
Put a complaint into Shepheard Neame who don’t care about the GRDP rules and gave him my email address.
HOW UNPROFESSIONAL.
And to make it worse I then got an email from the landlord telling me that the floor wasn’t covered in urine it was damp.
Very strange that the sink is at the other end of the toilet.
No ales on sale for weeks apparently.
I drank Hurlamens I have had bad stomach since.
I’m not going to be going back until the pub is sorted out.

I grew up in Rainham and the Mackland was a favourite of my Dad (Gerry Murphy) and, when I was older, me too. There was an owl in a cage on the bar years ago. The owners (Jan and her hubby) were always lovely. Beer was always good. Loos were terrible which, of course means great pub. One of very few local pubs left in the world worth saving. If you live near station road, hi and have a pint when they open

What an absolute star the landlord is
Popped in
Asked if ok to use the ladies and of course it was
He even put a new loo roll in before I used.
Cheerful, people in at 15.00
Good social atmosphere, wished I could have stayed and joined in
Faculties look clean
Typical English pub

My family which consited of my mum, partner and our two small children popped into the Mackland arms as we had a 45 minute wait for a train just up the road in Rainham. Inside the pub it's quite cosy, with regular looking customers sitting on their stools, but this was quite a different experience than a normal pub like this. The friendly barman was very pleasant and welcoming, and even gave my 4 year old a pound coin for sweets. Fellow customers were also just as friendly asking about our plans for the day and talking to our children about an upcoming exciting Christmas period!
I'd visited the pub before and thought it was good, but the latter experience has really pleased me and earned a 5 star review due to the nice atmosphere and warm welcome!

The macklands is a great pub, and the prices are more than reasonable. Our shepherds pie was ten minutes late, but the manager was more than apologetic
