Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A pleasant place to spend a sunny day. There is a chalk pit, where chalk used to be quarried. You might see one of the resident foxes, and you will certainly hear and see plenty of birds.

The nature reserve is a nice place for a gentle walk in the afternoon. There is some wildlife to see. If you are quiet you might see a snake.

Would be a great place to explore with children but the fab walk ways that are there have been blocked off due to needing repair so you get stuck and have to turn back

Really good place for rare bees and birds, wildflowers and peace and quiet. The open/scrub bit is especially nice in spring and early summer. The woodland bit over the road with the boardwalks has some fantastic local industrial archaeology and is doing a great job on a very limited budget.

It's one of my favourite places to go for a walk.

I just wish that everyone who used it would clean up after their dogs as the mess-dodging can get tiresome.

Such a lovely peaceful place. Nice for a picnic and great for kids to burn off some energy. Lots of different birds to see as well. We really love being here.

My friend and I came across this magical nature reserve whilst walking along the river path from Gillingham's Strand area through to Rainham and on to the rail station. What a lovely find, as it has a beautiful feel of serenity, peace and contentment. The reserve covers a disused quarry pit which is now overgrown with trees, bushes and fauna, but a path takes you along the rim at the top and then down to the bottom of the pit where there are some remains of the quarrying and a pond which gets flooded after heavy rain. There are then some wonderful wooden steps in the form of a boardwalk which take you back up to the top. Unfortunately, on the last few visits we have made there, the steps have been sealed off as repairs need to be done. But they have been like this for a long time now with no repairs being made by the council. I really wish the repairs could be made to make this wonderful wooded walk spectacular again. However, I do recommend a visit if you are in this area, to see, and feel, for yourself the magic within this lovely place.

This reserve is my favourite place to walk. It is good for solo walks, however it is neglected by the council. I wish the boardwalk would be fixed.

I didn't even know this existed until this year and have lived in Gillingham for most of my life! Its a beautiful tranquil place that has a few surprises in store for the walker. The walk takes you round and round getting lower and lower until you come upon a small lake/pond with abundant wildlife. There's a bench you can sit at whilst watching the fish jump out of the water trying to catch the odd dragonfly. Theres even a resident giant Terrapin who sits on the same fallen branch soaking up the heat of the sun. Its quiet lovely with only thing spoiling it being the rubbish people leave behind.,...beer cans, beer bottle cans of sweet corn left over from a fishing fest! Its such a shame but we now go armed with black sacks as we don't want this lovely reserve marred by morons! Don't let it put you off tho, my dog absolutely loves this walk as do we.
