Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Jul 2017 • Family
Our family of five cycled from Canterbury to Sandwich. Accommodation was basic, but the scenery and amusement for our kids was fantastic! Looking for shells at the see, joining the ringing of birds in the morning and meeting lots of people who know all about nature (and the shells that we found)! We enjoyed our time a lot and will come back for sure.

Visited this out of the way reserve today. Were met by very welcoming and helpful volunteers who gave us a map and showed us how to get to the hide and wooded areas. A very lovely reserve. It costs £7 to use the toll road into Sandwich Bay estate but if you say you are going only to the reserve you will be charged just £1.

Great place to visit. Excellent site for birds. Great site for some of the orchids and other plants. About 1200 species of moths on reserve or visit it.
Staff are all excellent in terms of knowledge and friendliness.
If you're in the area then visit the site and try and do some of their guided walks, talks, moth nights etc.

We managed to find the car park and building. But they have recently been given a grant so the new scrape had diggers making it bigger and better and new hides. You can still walk to the beach and back but dont expect to see the birds on the scrape until next Spring.

Hi Bryan, thank you for your review. The hides are now open and Restharrow Scrape is now being enjoyed by many birds. Lots of Snipe and Teal are overwintering there at the moment plus sightings of Jack Snipe recently as well. We'd love to hear what you think if you decide to visit again. All the best, the SBBOT team.

Had a very interesting and informative day on the reserve with dedicated volunteers. Learnt alot about the migratory and birdlife that passes through, resident birdlife and wading birds. Very warm day when we were there, lovely views across sandwich bay, to the channel. Learnt alot about the important work of the reserve with the bird ringing. A birdwatchers heaven.

The observatory is located not far down a private lane from the Toll Gate. The cost for the toll is £7 BUT if you mention you're just going to The Observatory it is only a £1. There's lots of local information in the observatory, what birds are around and recommended paths to walk plus toilet facilities. Outside there's several picnic tables and if you forget anything there are a few snack available from inside. The staff are helpful and friendly.

A great reserve, with fantastic volunteers.
Well worth a visit and a donation for all the hard work that has gone into this reserve.

We went to Sandwich Bay Bird to walk with our kids and watch the birds.
The people were friendly and we could look at the ringing of 3 birds. That was very nice to see! Thank you.

Amazing place to visit if your a keen bird watcher. Plenty to see in the wooded area as well as the scrape where you will find a good variety of ducks, geese and the occasional Peregrine Falcon.
Superb shop with plenty to look at and friendly staff who were very helpful.
