Visited the Christmas event, the thai food stall was very good, most stalls were standard ones a bit tired and repetitious.

As we did not go into the gatehouse (I do not know how much it is to go in) this review is purely based on what you can see from the outside. The gatehouse is interesting to look at and there is also a very good walk round the curtain walls. There are information boards placed at various points which give descriptions of what you are looking at. Where the curtain walls front onto the river, there are benches where you can sit and enjoy the sunshine (even on a winter's day).

Very lovely place, nice to go for a walk about. Entry into the castle gate is extremely overpriced for what you get. It should be much cheaper for families. The castle gate is very small and you can finish the tour in a few mins. Note entry into the grounds beyond the gates is free and I see this what most people based their positive reviews on, which I concur. Overall grounds are grate, castle entry is too expensive.

Hello, we work to ensure we are competitively priced to other like for like attractions. Our excellent audio tour, which is offered as part of the entry price takes around 45 minutes giving a comprehensive history of the castle.
We are very sorry you didn’t enjoy your visit with us and I wonder if you did not take up the option of the audio tour and this is why you did not get the most from your visit. There is also an audio-visual display inside which is a part of the tour to gain more information about the history of the castle in an immersive way and it sounds like you may have missed this when on the tour

The castle and grounds were very pleasant. There were lots of squirrels running about, bring hazelnuts and they will eat out of your hand!

It’s worth the short climb up to the entrance of the castle to see the battlements area. And then look back down to the river and high street. We didn't go in the actual castle as it was late and they were closing.

Disabled access is limited, only the ground floor is accessible for disabled visitors, which does have a virtual tour facility of the whole gatehouse. All of the Castle Grounds have disabled access.
