Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

When we signed up to do the Oyster Tour, apart from the detailed instructions about how to join, we weren't quite sure what to expect, but what a treat it turned out to be.
Mid morning, just before Christmas, we got our guide, Renny, all to ourselves so could ask all the stupid questions we wanted to!
It was so interesting to hear about the history of Oyster farming and how the Oyster company started in farming in the 70s; and seeing how the process works, first hand was fascinating.
All the guys were really welcoming and friendly and wow! do they work hard.
The tour finished with half a dozen oysters and a glass of bubbly at the Lobster shack (what's not to like?) - the perfect end to a lovely morning in among the vast oyster farm.
I would recommend this to anyone.

The tour is 100% worth it.
We didn’t really know what to expect but wanted a little extra out of our stay in whitstable.

I’ve got to say Rennie was brilliant!!

The tour was so interesting I would strongly recommend it to anyone heading to whitstable even if you’re not in to oysters. The history alone was interesting.
Rennie was knowledgeable but not in your face and had a real nice way about him as did the whole team.

One of our party couldn’t make the tour as he was unwell, knowing that he loved oysters Rennie packed us a box of the famous oysters to take home for him. Again, a real nice touch

Really good value for money and defo worth it! Give it a go.

We were very impressed with this tour. Our tour guide, Renny (an oysterman by day), was extremely knowledgeable and answered our many questions as we walked around the oyster farm at low tide. His passion for his work, and indeed for the oysters he farms, was obvious. Moving onto the grading and purifying plant was also interesting, and very reassuring to see the robust measures in place to ensure the Whitstable oysters are top quality.
The plus at the end of the tour was a reserved table at the Lobster Shack, with glass of prosecco, pint of stout and of course a platter of oysters, with Renny giving us tips on the most tasty ways to eat them.
Overall the experience was good value for money, informative and fun, and we would highly recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys oysters and would like to delve a little deeper into the world of Whitstable Oyster Farming.

The Whitstable Oyster Farm Tour was absolutely brilliant. Out tour guide (Terry) was fantastic with a wealth of experience taking us through the farming process from start to end, the production process as well as how best to enjoy your oysters.

There was also plenty of time to tuck into oysters at the end and we were left fully satisfied with the presentation and amount of oysters offered.

If you are going to Whitstable and you love oysters then this tour is a must do!

I was lucky enough to get on to an early incarnation of the tour, on a chilly but sunny Wednesday. Our tour guide, James, was both knowledgeable and amiable as he led us from the Oyster Co complex around the Sea Wall to the farm. He answered numerous questions, both technical and layman, as he guided us around the fascinating process that goes into growing and developing these creatures. The farm itself is neat and relatively unobtrusive, and it was brilliant to learn about the history of the farm and the inexorable link between Whitstable and the Oyster Co. I was amazed to learn how many people are employed, directly and indirectly, in the oyster businesses and it was wonderful to see Curlews, Turnstones and the inevitable Oystercatchers on the farm.

Our guide also provided us with fresh oysters to sample and some local drinks, which were excellent.

All in all, the tour was a fascinating and detailed insight into a key part of Whitstable's heritage and a chance to learn about how this business is growing sustainable produce in an historic setting. Would thoroughly recommend the tour for all age groups and anyone curious about where our food comes from.
