We perform checks on reviews.
Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Unfortunately it’s now closed, a black dog indeed.
Thanks for the memories, I really enjoyed visiting and the whole atmosphere will now relocate to the Handsome Tom.

I had never visited this pub before but a pal of mine who knew it suggested we should meet there for a few ales.
I'm so glad he did, it's a lovely little bar, lots of quirky curios on display, comfortable seats and great beers, chatting to the barman, I was told they always had sessions pale ale and a Wantsum brew, the sessions was excellent as was the Wantsum Black Pig.
We'll definitely put the Black Dog on our list of pubs worth visiting.

Found this friendly whacky pub on our way back to our accomodation - certainly the best Gin in town and fantastic craft beers loved the local people

Waiting for the Guns n Roses tribute band in the Umbrella Centre we stumbled upon this great pub and has a couple of drinks in the bar - 7.45 to 8.30 pm. As I was driving we kept to elderflower cordial and a 0.5% abv Adnams Ghost Ship beer (£5). Plenty of things to look at the bar (and in the toilets). Great barman - what is there not to like and enjoy. I will definitely come here again but this time sample some real ales and ciders!

If you like a place that is warm comfortable with excellent beers and a massive collection curios filling every inch of the walls... this is the place. From the log burner at the door to the zeppelin on the wall this was a cracking find. Dont be put off by the owner he is very friendly really))) as are the bar staff. Dog friendly. Warm. Quirky.. great beer..

Heard good things about the place & was excited to visit. Upon arrival with my wife, our baby and her brother, I bought a round of drinks and had to pay cash because the card machine was not working.

I took the drinks back to our table to find the barman had asked my wife to leave immediately as baby’s are not allowed in the pub. There was no offer to refund our drinks and no sign on the door to say “no kids”. She didn’t even have the chance to finish the drink I had just bought.

I appreciate that kids in pubs does not appeal to everyone and adults go to this bar to enjoy a craft beer - their selection is very good.

It’s just the way we were treated left a lot to be desired. There’s a lot of other bars in Whitstable with a great selection of beers and next time I want a pint I’ll be going to one of them.

Arrived at 12.00 with 4 others for a pre lunch pint (an annual visit) only to find it closed. Hung around until 12.15 to meet the manager opening up only to be told it would be closed for another 15 minutes as he had to go to the bank, so the Smack Inn got the benefit of our custom. Sad really.

I visited with my sister and met my friend for a quick catch up.
The micro pub has some interesting artifacts and the decor is worth a visit.
Plenty of choice of craft beers and local Kent wines. Staff friendly and bought pour drinks over to the high tressel table. Relaxed and intimate so you sometimes end up chatting to the people next door or across from you

On my first visit to the black dog was very welcoming and appreciated the decor and the selection or real ales and tried a few of them i was also with a friend and my dog. A couple of days after i decided to return for a swift one only to be greeted with that my dog was not allowed in. My dog is the most well behaved kind animal ever also was on the lead at all times and was no issue in their what so ever..to save embarrassment if you have your family pooch with you maybe try one of the other more accommodating, dog friendly establishments on the same road.
