Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Everything you ever needed to know about this town, especially its big role in our two civil wars, but much more besides. If it's not on display, ask as the volunteers are very well informed. £1 is good value for displays that take 1hour at least to enjoy and free to English heritage members although I would still donate your £1 to support a brilliant centre of local history.

Went really to see a friends temporary art exhibition which was great - on throughout May and worth a look - hadn’t been to the museum before but interesting to find out more about this area. Has potential to be a bit more interactive maybe!

This museum is a great place for visitors to Ashby de la Zouch, but at this time of the year it offers local residents an opportunity to buy a special card to send to friends living away. The cards are lovely with old fashioned views of the towns` iconic scenery illustrated by nationally renown artist Di Lorriman who lives locally. They also have some locally made beautiful wood turned products and an excellent range of childrens activity books.

Took my two granddaughters aged 6 and 7 and spent a happy two hours as they learned about where we live - the exhibits are great, the fact sheets easy to understand and there’s several quiz sheets that really made them look and explore the museum - they enjoyed the dress up box a lot
Very good !

Next to the town library is this charming, small museum depicting scenes from the history of the town. There are photo-information boards about all the surrounding villages and artefacts from craftsmen and businesses that thrived in the town.

Popped into this lovely museum to find volunteers busy researching the heritage and history of Ashby de la Zouch for a future exhibition maybe. Such a fascinating town! There is a brilliant permanent display with a changing exhibition too. The current theme is of childhood and I found it quite nostalgic looking at old pictures and remembering events my children were part of like Worsal Gummage at Ashby Carnival and the huge Children in Need event. There were much older pictures and items from my own childhood like an earthenware bottle of Virol which I remember my Mum gave me every day along with a tea spoon of caster oil. I also loved the hand made christening dress as I made one for my babies 40 years ago. Thanks to the staff for reviving some lovely memories. Small admission charge plus small parking fee for large car park next door.

We had been trying for ages to visit this little gem, our previous encounter with it being over 25 years ago. Do devote a good hour at least to your visit as there is quite a lot to see. Helpful and knowledgeable staff greet you. Of the two rooms, one holds local interest artefacts and information displays with a wider, more national impact or relevance. Information comes at two levels; wall mounted basic information, supported with printed sheets available to take with you. The displays range from soap manufacture, parachuting - with a delightfully suspended manakin, watch manufacture, Civil War connections, use of local Breedon stone and a huge professionally constructed wood map of the area. Some dressing up items are available for children, mirror cunningly built into a shop front facade. All good and well presented.
Across to the other room, More intimate, familial local detail is displayed. Many local Leicestershire villages are represented, with points of interest and historical significance are shown here. Wartime artefacts are shown, with various items of correspondence nearby. Domestic items such as mechanical shopping lists are included - such a good idea for today too. (The castle is little represented here, as to be expected as that site is quite close by.)
We were both impressed by the presence of good items, which had been maintained at a local museum and not being removed to a larger regional one. A shop is found in the entrance, with pocket money items being available alongside a superb range of local history books, all reasonably priced. Local historians do publish a new issue of one booklet each year. Some postcards and other cards are also available. Everything is at ground level, so accessibility is not a problem. Toilets are all available, good clean and up to the job. Open 11-1 and 2-4 most days but precise times are available on line. Parking is immediately nearby.
