- KeitW2016Birmingham, United Kingdom11 contributionsDisgusting lack of hygieneThought we'd try the Canalside Cafe. After seeing staff loading a chocolate cake onto a plate using bare fingers and no utensils, with every slice "fingerprinted" in the process, we left without buying anything and won't be back. After Covid, we expect staff to care about hygiene, and management to set the bar higher not at rock bottom. If the staff member didn't know, that's down to lack of training. A disgusting example of how not to do it. Goodbye Conkers.Hello KeitW2016, thank you for feeding this back to us. Our Catering Manager, who champions a 5 star food hygiene rating, is investigating this review personally and shall be feeding back to our senior management team. Our teams are fully trained and so this is not a review we would expect to be reading. I hope my response to this feedback, requiring our full immediate attention to review and action where necessary, demonstrates our ambition and retainment of a well regarded high status for excellence. Thank you again.Written 12 December 2022This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited December 2022Written 11 December 2022
- BexLou1 contributionAwful Santa experience. We went to the Winter Wonderland experience with our three children and when we arrived to see Santa he was sitting through a tiny door with a rope across it so that the children couldn't have their photo taken with him. He also only spoke for a minute and wasn't very jolly. Most of the elves looked as if they couldn't be bothered to interact too. Our children were left very deflated and disappointed. Compared to other Santa experiences this was awful. We certainly will not be coming back to Conkers.Hi BexxLouu, Thank you for feeding back to us. We have been receiving some fantastic reviews for the Winter Wonderland Experience, and so I am sorry to be reading we didn't quite hit the mark this time. This event started simply and aims to grow annually. Every visit will always be different but our elves joyfulness must remain consistent for every guest and I am sorry to hear that this was not the case for your visit. I shall be investigating personally and ensuring we are injecting super levels of festive cheer for every guest.Written 13 December 2022This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited December 2022Travelled with familyWritten 12 December 2022
- Lucy1 contributionWinter wonderland experienceWinter wonderland - our third time visiting and it was the last! The Santa was awful, he looked 12. Didn’t interact with my son at all, was in and out in 30 seconds. Elves were miserable. Paths weren’t gritted and my child fell. So disappointed there was no festive magic at all. Price increases every year we’ve been but isn’t worth it at allHello lucindam997, Thank you for your feedback, this is always valuable for our developing events. We try to ensure everyone gets adequate time with Santa, that naturally feels like a positive experience at the time, this is supported by allowing our elves to judge the conversations being held and finding the right moment to discuss the next part of the adventure. I am sorry to be reading that your time with Santa was not as long as you would have liked and shall be taking this feedback into next Winter Wonderlands offer.Written 7 February 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited December 2022Travelled with familyWritten 18 December 2022
- Larney-MelBirmingham, United Kingdom11 contributionsLooking very tiredHaving not been for 15 years, we were looking forward to our trip to Conkers with the next generation of our family. Unfortunately, Conkers hasn’t been so busy with updates. Whilst the idea and general execution is still fantastic, the place is very tired. Almost every indoor exhibit is broken in some way - a snapped of ants leg, a missing plaque, an absent handle, bulbs not working, screens blank. It’s like no one has done any maintenance since day 1. And many of these diy deteriorations mean that the exhibits don’t work at all or make sense, users are left baffled and disappointed. The cafe was great, facilities clean and staff were friendly. The park is a fantastic place to run about and the soft play is well designed and disability friendly. The concept is admirable and this would be a wonderful place for schools and families alike. But it needs closing for at least a long weekend and an estates team in to give it some tlc. It wouldn’t take much but it would mean a lot. Otherwise I can see the wildlife and environment park going to seed itself…Hello Larney-Mel, Thank you for feeding back to us. So pleased to read that our disabled friendly venue was well enjoyed, and I shall pass your kind words onto our catering team about the cafe's positive operation. We do hope to continue to grow our school trips, especially with our school trip activities and workshops available in-line with the curriculum and we are so lucky to have such a lovely site for people to enjoy when visiting. I have passed your comments onto our maintenance team with regards to the interactive hall to investigate. We look forward to welcoming you again soon!Written 7 February 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited December 2022Travelled with familyWritten 28 December 2022
- Daz2 contributionsCould be greatFirst time we visited Conkers. Here's an honest opinion. First off, I didn't pay, a friend bought us a annual voucher - had I have paid I might have asked for my money back. The lady who served us at the reception desk was inept. She was halfway through talking to us when another visitor interrupted and asked her a question. Had it been where's the toilets or something quick, fair enough. Instead she proceeded to go into detail with this guy whilst we all stood there waiting for her to finish. she then started cooing over their new born baby. So her service was appalling. When we did finally get served, we go out into the play area and the first thing my children spotted was this amazing looking ropes and ladders building at the end of the park. Looked brilliant, I was all hyped up ready and when we reach the end. It's closed. I go back to the receptionist who simply said "Oh it's not open unless it's term time". Ok fair enough but perhaps she could have told us that. We also found as we were walking around that 2 or 3 other areas were closed as they were being repaired. You had to walk to that area to find that out. Again the receptionist could have let us know. However, despite the receptionist caring more about her nails then information, my children actually loved it. They had a great time and were not too upset by some areas not working. We have an annual pass and will of course visit several more times this year. If they have repaired the issues then I'll be pleased, but judging by other comments on here, I suspect that it's not their top priority. £90 for the year for 2 adults and two children is a bargain but only if they sort out the issues. Several areas the looked good were only available during term time is another negative, but as I said my kids did have a great time. To summarise and going off of the other comments. 1) sack the Santa and get someone akin to Attenborough. 2) Spend some cash and sort out the issues. 3) Sack the receptionist, she put my back up before we'd even walked into the place. 4) Put on the necessary staff so that half the facilities are operational to prevent disappointment.Hello 904darreno, Thank you for feeding back to us. Our teams guest service is imperative for our guests welcome and knowledge base for delivering information. I have passed your comments onto our Management Team to discuss with the team.Written 7 February 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited January 2023Written 30 January 2023
- NJBLeek, United Kingdom20 contributionsTired, dated and could do betterA tired and dated place to visit. Reception staff were lovely, can not fault them. Once inside, main exhibition lots of interactive items not functional. Typical late 90s exhibition with lots of buttons, but very little working. Was more of a wander round and see what works. 4D cinema great (tickets included) but front two rows out of order. Note to centre, give the glasses a good clean! Once outside the maze was closed, swan ride closed and train out of service. We had a wander in the wood, and made a shelter. Decided not to fork out more money for high ropes etc. Had a quick wander on sensory trail and decided after an hour enough. This place has amazing potential, but you need to take customer feedback and refresh. Take stock of the tired site, close down the indoor section that has had it day. It’s the start of the busy season and you don’t sadly seem to have come out of winter well. General could do better.Hello NJB_Derbyshire, thank you for feeding this back to us. We had a super busy, activity encompassing half term, filled with lots of shows and hands-on fun! I am so sorry to read that we let you down on this occasion. We are keen to set out and to introduce the best opportunities for the site moving forward and hope to bring you along for the ride also! - Simon AGloucester, United Kingdom1 contributionGood day but lacks attention from the ownersNice place. Needs a lot of work and love going into the place. The blond Girl working at the waterside centre was extremely helpful and happy to help us a real credit to your team. After reading some reviews it’s clear to see that the higher ups don’t care about the indoor facilities if they have been broken for over 3 years. We are looking at coming back in the summer as I said the girl at reception told us a lot about the park and what’s on offer during the holidays.Hello Simon A, Thank you for feeding back to us. I shall pass on your kind words about the welcome and support offered by our receptionist. We really enjoy throwing out lots of additional experiences during the school holidays, with this Easters holiday adventures and activities having just been released this week, and there will be so much to enjoy and do. I shall pass your comments on with regards to the indoor broken facilities and hope you will see the great improvements on your next visit with us. - Jemma B3 contributionsOk.. the place needs more love and attention though! We visited today with 2 young children. This place has lots of things to do and successfully kept the kids entertained throughout the day. We lost a lot of time really though because the map and the signage around the park is quite disorienting. We also got turned away from going on the swan pedlows at reception because it was to busy even though all the swans were outside in a line with nobody on. We decided to walk over to the other side of the park to watch the show and go round tree top walk thing.. we went across the wobbly bridge, we nearly lost a child in the pond because one of the planks on the wobbly bridge had snapped off and she wasn’t looking as she stepped, we caught her quickly though but quite easily could of broken a leg at the angle she went down. I was quite surprised at the lack of staff around the park, considering the amount of children there was (obviously aimed at children) one could quite easily go missing and there is no staff for the children to go to.. there’s places around the woodlands where children can go or places where the ponds are where there’s no safety measure in place for them. I get that parents/guardians should be keeping an eye on them but these things do happen it’s quite easily done to lose sight of your child for a split second especially when’s there’s so many running around. This place has the potential for some serious money to be made here.. there really is something for everyone here. But I don’t think conkers has quite tapped the nail on the head so to speak with getting it quite right. There’s lovely woodland walks for adults or adventurous families or simply couples/friends looking for somewhere different to explore. The cleanliness of the place especially the cafe where they serve pizzas is to be desired for really. The floors we’re disgusting and especially the bottom of the disabled lift as your walking past. The staff just stand there chatting really, when they could be doing bits around the cafe to improve it really. It wasn’t particularly busy we were the only ones there at the point we went. Overall it feels like the whole of conkers needs some love, care and attention as currently it isn’t getting any. It would benefit from a maintenance team, a gardening team to tidy round outside as well as more staff visible to children and adults to help with directions. When we asked the lady on reception how to get over to see the show across the other side of the park she said she didn’t know, we asked another receptionist who was great and gave us the directions and we followed them and got there in no time at all. Indoor and outdoor items need cleaning and perhaps attention and a paint in places. We did particularly enjoy the adventure trail which we all thought was the best bit.Dear jemmab760, Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience at CONKERS with us. Great to read you enjoyed our Activity Trail but we are sorry to hear that your overall visit did not meet expectation. - Katie W2 contributionsWouldn't return.Went as a family of four. Two children. One in a buggy, one on foot. Indoor experience is really old, tatty and non of the interactive buttons worked! A real shame. Outdoor was so so muddy it was unbelievable - which I guess can't be helped but I do think better paths would help - chippings etc. Anyway, mus was a nightmare with a buggy. And in fact, the whole place was a bit of a buggy nightmare to be honest and my partner basically had to miss out on everything and go where the buggy would allow. I didn't think there was that much to do. Real lack of picnic tables. Wouldn't return. Only saving grace was tickets are fairly cheap.Hello T5106UCkatiew, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at CONKERS. - James G17 contributionsIs it really worth the money?Unfortunately went for a family day out with all looking forward to the high ropes but after paying the rather family friendly prices for the course we were rather surprised to hear one of the instructors exclaiming to his team that he is still dizzy from last night but should be fine. After hearing the lads worrying remarks we decided that it would be safe not to participate in the activities as they seemed rather understaffed even with this lad functioning at a normal capacity. we tried our best not to let this ruin our day and decided it would be more fun to do the bare foot walk which they have renovated since I last visited and although it was a bit cold and windy we all had a laugh and loved the experience. We are sorry to hear that your experience at CONKERS did not meet your expectations. We take all feedback seriously and are committed to providing safe experience for all our guests. We shall investigate your note about our instructors and please consider this issue addressed. Great to read that you had fun on the Barefoot walk and everyone had an enjoyable time with this.Written 14 April 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited April 2023Written 13 April 2023

Went today. From near London and had the job of taking out some friends little lad locally to the area and also one of my own children.
We went at the time of opening and it was really quiet. Which for me is good as it means we can enjoy ourselves more and do as much as possible without being held up. The staff were really friendly and explained the entire place, as I'm not from the area and it's our first time visiting.
We did half the site/trails and managed to get back to the discovery centre for lunch. By this point we were soaked, muddy and having an awesome time. I was not expecting some of the massive structures the kids had to climb and even joined in as it was epic. When we got back to the discovery centre we were met with dinosaurs and the children were in their element. On top of that we then had tickets to go to the 4D cinema. Once we did that, had lunch, we headed out to the other half of the site and came across the train. I kept asking how much things were and was told it was all in the cost of the entrance fee. When we got to what was the original site building we attended a craft workshop. Whilst the kids were making a Halloween face cut out I was talking to Molly who filled me in on the place, it's history, and how it all worked. It was really interesting and she was excellent with the kids and in talking to me. I mentioned how amazing it was for the cost as where I'm from this would be 4x the amount. We also left a donation when we got back as I just couldn't get my head around how good it was for the cost!
When we got back to the discovery centre the kids had a run around in the soft play there and I realised we had spent the best part of 5 hours at Conkers! They loved it. I loved it and we did literally everything that we could. What a fantastic place. We love the outdoors, we love getting messy and this was a great day well spent in the not so great weather. We will be back for sure especially to do the zip line and climbing stuff when the weather gets better

We are locals so we bought an annual pass, meaning we only have to go for a couple of hours at a time. Plenty of walks, especially the hidden gems behind the amphitheatre. Cafe, small soft play, inside discovery zones...it's good to pass a couple of hours.

great little amphitheatre and great band selection, good bar management inside but spoiled by unregulated queue jumping in entry queue(although arrived early we were continually moved further back in queue by unregulated queue jumping in front of us ) and passive smoking in the queue(clouds of other peoples tobacco smoke closely packed queues are unpleasant not to say a health and safety risk)

Visited Conkers with my friend and her 4 year old son, I haven’t been since I was a teen and was looking forward to seeing how different it was after 17 years of not going. It was a very disappointing visit to say the least. The reception team were quite slow with lots of young staff who didn’t really seem to be a rush and it was a long wait to get in, was surprised to see the prices for an under 5 year old were the same for an adult. No information was given at this point about additional charges for activities. The entrance hall area was a bit messy with black divides covering up something. The indoor interactive area hasn’t changed much at all in 17 years, nothing worked and my friends son was getting annoyed at pressing buttons and nothing happening. Lots of displays with faded information signs so you had no clue what the point of it was anymore. A ball maze with no ball, a large sphere of extremely smelly dark water with no seeming purpose, a recycling game that just didn’t work and giant insects that looked like they had been beaten up and sellotaped back together. The recycling in the cages had expiry dates from the early 2000’s so that just goes to show that you’ve not updated much since I visited as a teen. The cafe was a bit chaotic with lots of large families sitting indoors with food they had brought from home, the wait was very long as one staff member did all the work taking orders and making drinks, while a girl just stood at the end of the counter and waited at the till looking bored and serving no one. We wanted to go on the swans but had to fight to get back through the cafe to the reception and then waited for 5 minutes while the young girl serving us ran around the reception area looking for something with no help from her colleagues. The pedalos were fun but the pond area just didn’t seem big enough once all the swans were in use so kept crashing into others. Took the train to waterside which was fun but was disappointed in how tired the park was looking with railings not even attached to the frame and the floor of the tall climbing frame crumbling away at the edges, it seemed rather dangerous in places. Back at the main park, the maze wasn’t really a maze, we walked in a straight line pretty much to the tower which was difficult getting up and down with lots of kids inside, really needs a slide or something at the top so those going up don’t also have to fight to get back down. The rabbits warren was a cool feature, had fun inside there but the center section could do with something as it felt like a prison exercise yard with the breeze blocks and metal stairs, just loses its aesthetics. The gift shop was quite a large space but didn’t really seem to have much choice and some of things sold in there were a bit questionable, hip flasks at a family gift shop. All in all my friends son seemed to have a good day but just the whole place needs some attention and investment and from the looks of the other comments recently my views are shared.

Some parts of Conkers are great. The activity trail, high and low ropes, the adventure playground, 4d cinema, burrows are great for kids. There's plenty to do and you can easily spend all day here.
But, the food isn't great, there are nowhere near enough places to sit, the exhibition in the visitor centre is sad, tired, old and broken and not in the least bit engaging. The labyrinth is a joke, the tree top trail is broken and can hardly be called "tree top" as it's only a few feet off the ground. Apart from the adventure playground the waterside part of the site really isn't worth visiting. My view was confirmed later in the day. As people started to leave the rats appeared. Whole families of them, bold, fat adult rats and large numbers of young rats. In the space of 10 minutes I saw at least a dozen rats near the waterside visitor centre. We'd seen some near the wobbly bridges but to see them in such large numbers near the visitor centre, including near open doors used by staff, is very off putting.

All in all we had a great day at Conkers! I was apprehensive before going (as I had read the latest reviews) but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! There is plenty to keep you occupied all day (we didn’t get a chance to do it all!) but we enjoyed the sensory trail, the barefoot walk, the train ride, adventure trail and the numerous play parks.
I would have liked to have done the low ropes for my son but no information was given about this upon checking in at reception, only when we got to the area we saw that you needed to book tickets at reception! However nobody was currently doing it, so I’m not sure if it was even open?! The same occurred for the swan pedlos. Although friendly, I do think the reception staff could take the time to explain how things operate and what you need to do for the activities etc. that is my one criticism.
Otherwise we all had a fabulous day, we enjoyed ice creams for a reasonable price (£10 for 4) and spent nothing else.
Will return to hopefully do more of the extra activities.
Thanks for a great day out!

This place needs a good tidy up and revamp.
Came here with 7year old and 15 year old.
Reception not informative at all. We realised if we wanted tickets for 4D cinema, low/high ropes that we had to go all the way back to reception!. When we arrived we should have been told what you have to get tickets for and pay extra for.
Train - Free but a long wait to go a short distance. We thought we might be able to do a circuit but no such luck!
Tattoos - £5!
Did not even dare to look at ice cream/drinks prices!
Swan Pedalos - £10. We wanted to do this but think this price is steep esp after paying entrance fee. I feel this should be included.
Craft room - Small but ok for small children.
Amphitheatre- Missed the show as again reception didn’t take a few seconds to highlight the 3 times like other places normally do.
Sensory trail - sound element did not work
High/ low ropes - Reception again did not highlight tickets to be obtain by them or even that it is chargeable.
Play areas - very much enjoyed
Picnic area - during school holidays May have to sit on the grass.
Toilets - Ceiling tile loose, handle to toilet door on one the plastic part had come off, lady told me another toilet not flushing, unable to get toilet roll from the tiny hole you pull the paper out of as stuck!, generally unclean.
If we didn’t have Tesco vouchers I would not have chosen to pay approx £10 to come here each then to find out there is lots of chargeable events. During the cost of living crisis it’s hard to say to your child sorry you can’t do this and that! I only saw the low ropes were chargeable once looking on the website as my child not keen on doing this so we didn’t make the trip back down to reception after obtaining the 4d cinema tickets 1st time.
Initially the indoor information area very informative and interesting to us adults anyhow.
My son wanted to use the small digger machine ( Chargeable from reception ) enjoyed walking across the bridge instead of the low ropes.
4d Cinema 15 minute slots. We was given a time of over 4 hours, which we didn’t end up seeing.
Really needs Maintainence in all areas.
Broken plastic near the craft room which my child could have cut himself on.
Lots of open areas for children to run around but I’d rather pay money for Gullivers Kingdom.

Inside quite run down, pressed buttons and nothing happens or the models were broken. Cafe food was not nice. The splash area was small but nice. Train is good and takes you to a brilliant park. The lady doing face paints is so lovely and does a wonderful job. It's cheap enough to get in but the entrance price does not include alot of the other attractions like the high ropes / outdoor persuits or Swan boats (£10!)
Some areas are nice but other areas just need a bit of money spending and tlc.

Conkers was a major millennium project and opened in March 2001. Going well ever since.

We are going next week... we’ve not been before and would like to spend the whole day. Is it worth taking bikes to get from bit to bit (adults and children? Just children? Or not bother?)

Cycle route 63 runs through conkers. There is an old railway line that runs adjacent to the canal so you can cycle out to donisthorpe along the canal and back via the railway. Donisthorpe is a large area and from there you can continue along the old track bed to Measham.
