Impressive beautiful Gothic house set in some lovely countryside. The guides here are knowledgeable and enthusiastic. You can buy cakes and drinks in the ballroom. When we visited they were due to have the TV drama Victoria film at Allerton. You can see why the TV company chose this place. As the Gothic interiors are dramatic.

This is a beautiful castle we came here for a wedding fare and to look around as my daughter is getting married here next year . I love the fact you get the whole venue to yourself when booking a wedding and not be moved around for other parties to come in . The main hall is stunning has a... More

Visited this magnificent House on Sep 20th 2016. Purchased in 1983 by its current owner an American Businessman Dr Rolph. Who purchased the castle with 1.5 Hectares of land. The building was in a state of disrepair and in need of substantial roof and structural repair. In 1986 Dr Rolph founded the Gerald Arthur Rolph Foundation for Historic Preservation and... More

On arrival we were very impressed by this hidden gem, we were directed into a waiting area with refreshments where we paid £8 each for the tour. Sheila the guide was very keen to get the tour started and ushered some latecomers in to get underway. Sheila grasped our attention from the start then half way through we were rudely... More

We came here not knowing what to expect but what a surprise in store. Our first stop was the ballroom for fresh homemade cakes and tea and coffee so very reasonably priced and served by very friendly staff. We then had a short talk from Sheila who was very good. THEN we were in a small group of 9 with... More

This is exquisite! We had the most memorable aftern0on here-really interesting tour guide Sheila really brought this castle to life-it is clear it is a much loved cherished castle-the passion for it is tangible -the garden is beautiful. We have visited many places but this has a certain X factor.Would highly recommend a visit.

Wow from the first moment you enter the castle. The huge wooden doors at the entrance is so well hung you can open it with one finger. Then you enter a huge space with a 70 feet high ceiling with a wooden roof. Lots of wooden panels and carvings. You go into a large white plaster room that almost gives... More

We had my brothers wedding held here. It is such a beautiful place, everyone who attended commented on how lovely everything was. The staff were perfect along with the grounds. Such a lovely place.

I arranged a group visit for our local U3A group and it was a huge success. The guide was excellent and was informative and interesting with just a touch of humour thrown in.

It's like a hidden jewel tucked just off the A59 York to Harrogate road. The castle is imposing and has a feel of being ancient and yet it isn't. It's a gothic style masterpiece created from a Georgian mansion house built in the mid 1900th century (some of the original house still remains) then in 1986 it was bought and... More
