The Green Howards Museum charts the 300 year history of this illustrious local infantry regiment. Housed in a former church in the centre of the market place, the galleries show a range of objects from military equipment, medals and uniforms as well as using personal items donated to the regiment throughout the centuries to tell the human story of those of who have served. The museum is a light, bright, place with loads to discover for all the family and features a range of activities for our younger visitors. The museum also runs education, community events and activity programmes.

Myself and a couple of friends associated with the Regiment visited last week, nobody was at the desk when we entered we waited a couple of minutes until finally a thin woman came out from one of the offices, she was extremely snooty and obviously thought she was too good to be serving us. We paid our fees and were... More

Thank-you for your review. We are sorry that your experience of the museum shop did not meet our high standards as can be seen by the many positive reviews that are posted on tripadvisor. We are currently recruiting for a new front of house member of staff so our staffing levels are lower than usual which is perhaps why you... More

An intriguing museum, outlining the history and character of this illustrious regiment. I found the Second World War exhibits interesting, but perhaps the most fascinating display is the German machine gun captured at the Somme. It's a horrifying beast and I shuddered at the thought of the gunner lining someone up in his sights. I'd recommend that, when asked if... More

Just spent a really interesting and informative afternoon in the Green Howard's museum. Located in the centre of the beautiful market town of Richmond, North Yorkshire,it is an easily overlooked gem. The museum traces the history of the regiment from it's inception to it's amalgamation and has a large of historically significant items presented in a really accessible way. Staff... More

Actually a really nice and interesting museum in the heart of Richmond and really enjoyed the exhibition of military interests. Brilliantly laid out and lighting which makes everything look interesting. The information supplied is well written and charts how the army has changed over 400 years. There are several old army uniforms for photo shoots which can keep you amused... More

I do know that my dad played a small voluntary part in the upkeep of this famous museum when he retired from the Army. Other Regiments are involved as well as the Green Howards - Prince of Wales Own Regiment of Yorkshire; the Duke of Wellington's Regiment and the Yorkshire Regiment. There are Victoria Crosses and George Crosses on display... More

We were, apparently, the first visitors to the museum this year, as it only opened for the season on 1st February! It is housed in an excellent conversion of an old building and is filled with lots of interesting items relating to this fine Regiment. There is also a medal gallery with details of the numerous winners of the Victoria... More
